3-to-Inspire with Marci

Hello CTK friends! It is Marci here. It is the first of the month which means there is a new release in the shop. I am very excited to bring you the first 3-to-Inspire with the new Travelogue collection

Here are the 3-to-Inspire prompts for this week:

  1. Tone on tone embellishing
  2. Use a tag
  3. Incorporate something “older” from your stash

I was drawn to the digital paper number 9. It reminded me of a map and the stitch marks across the green portion looked like lines on a road. I wanted to take this picture of my son and his friend driving an electric toy vehicle and make it look like they were driving on the road. Digital paper number 10 with the black circles made me think of tire tracks so I used that to mount my picture.

To embellish the page, I got the idea to add tone on tone pieces to the three color portions of the paper. I used several die cuts from the Travelogue ephemera pack. I needed more pieces to fill in the spaces so I turned to the 2022 Travelogue chipboard stickers and some older enamel dots. Now I had enough pieces in the matching colors to make my design. These are my “older” items for the challenge. (I am using older in quotes because we all have stashes with different ages. Some of our older items might be a month older while other items are 10 years old! Go with what you have available to you.)

This month’s kit comes with a large Kraft shipping tag. I liked the idea of using it as the second page to my spread but the color didn’t work. I used the shipping tag as a template and cut my own out of one of the other digital papers. Now my tag coordinates with one of the colors from the left side of my spread. I added my title, journaling and more embellishments to the tag to finish out my spread.

I hope you find the 3 prompts this week inspiring and give them a try.

3 to Inspire with Kira

Hey friends!  It's Kira and I am back with another 3-to-inspire to get those creative juices flowing today!  Here's the 3 items I am challenging you to use on your layout today:

1.  Stamps
2.  Stitching
3.  Splatters

And here's a look at the layout I created:

I started this layout with the Emerson Lane "Details" paper (included in the Pattern Paper Play kit).  I love a simple ledger paper for backgrounds.  It adds the right amount of pattern without completely overwhelming your page.

My layers consist of pieces from the cutapart paper, also from Emerson Lane, called Easy Peasy, which was included in the main "Pleasant Valley" kit.  I used my sewing machine to add some messy stitching to the my photo and the layer behind it.  I also added some stitching to two more places around my layout.  But if you don't have a sewing machine, you could always hand stitch or add hand drawn "stitches" for the same effect!

I used the "Better Together" thickers as my title, which are found in the Embellishment kit, and then finished off my embellishing with puffy stickers (also in the embellishment kit) and cardstock stickers (included in the main kit).  I used a few of the stamps included in the Postmarked stamp and the TN "Favorite Things" stamp set.

The splatters were the last thing I added.  Your splatters can be done with any medium:  watercolor, watered down acrylic paint, etc.  But I used my Shimmerz Coloringz in the color Night Moves and Shimmerz Blingz in Gold Glimmer for mine.

I hope these prompts inspire you to get your kits out today and get a cute photo scrapped!  Join us in our Facebook group so you can share your layouts, or to grab even more inspiration!

Until next time,

Kira

Tuesday Tutorial with Neftali

Happy Tuesday everyone and welcome back to another Tuesday Tutorial! It’s Neftali here today to share with you a sweet pregnancy book I have created using the Mini TN covers from the shop and the October Little Things TN exclusive papers. As we all know, the exclusives are always so exciting to find every month as they are so bright and beautiful. It’s a given!

But this month I found them to be especially perfect to add to a baby book since they were all light pastel colors and very neutral soft prints.

Let’s get ready, and grab your mom fuel, and let’s make a baby book!

As a side note, you can make any type of book using the items I’m using today. This can be a general guide for prepping your Mini TN’s for any theme or season.

I began by cutting each one of the papers to size so that they would fit nicely inside the wooden covers. Approximately, 3 1/2 by 8 inches. After that I placed them back to back so that they would have a pattern on each side and sewed them together.

I love the look they have when stitched all around! Such a unique and finished look.

Once I finished stitching the pages together, I ended up with 4 base pages for the mini. I simply hole punched them and they were ready to be placed together with ring binders.

My book is now ready to be filled with memories and milestones from this pregnancy.

I decided to create a cover page as the first look when you open the book. I used some really pretty details to keep with the soft pastel colors of the book.

I plan to keep adding more pages as I go and different elements like pocket pages and even smaller interactive elements like glassine bags.

So friends, the October Little Things PL Kit is pretty much perfect for a baby book. But these super easy and basic steps can help you create a base for any Mini TN book! Please feel free to share any of your creations in our CTK Facebook group.

Thanks for stopping by today scrappy friends! I hope you are all feeling inspired to play with your October kits and create something beautiful. Have a wonderful week! Xo

Sunday Sketch with Melanie

Hello crafty friends, Melanie here with another Sunday Sketch. This week's sketch is so fun, I just love it! Let's have a look:

And here's what I came up with. This layout is all about a wonderful evening I spent with a friend of mine watching Mama Mia. It was the sing along version and it was so fun singing Abba songs and watching the movie. This month's Kits are full of great patterns and colors, I love all the purples and the orange. One of my favorites this month are the wood veneer pieces, they are so gorgeous!

The  notebook stripes were perfect for this Layout and I layered them with some other matching  papers from the Scrapbook and Add On Kit

I also love the phrase stickers from the Embellishment Kit which go so great with the theme of my layout.

I used the awesome exclusive wood veneer words to create my title and added some of the cute wooden hearts for even more texture.

I used a black pen to create faux stitches and added some of the triangles on top of it with some foam adhesive, just as the sketch suggests.

I finished it off with some black splatters like I almost always do! This layout came together so quickly and I am happy to have this story documented. Now I can't wait to see what you are creating based on this sketch, so go to your craft room, make something pretty and share your work in our Facebook Group  or on Instagram and use the hashtag #citrustwistkits so we can see your creations!

Happy crafting,
Melanie

You are magic!

Hello crafty friends,  Melanie back here with a layout about my bestie. She's not in the picture though, but you can see this cute foldable superhero bag I always carry around in my handbag she had sewn for me last year.
This month's kits are once again so lovingly put together, everything matches perfectly and I love all the small bits and pieces that come in the kits. For this layout I wanted to use one of the frames from the Embellishment Kit, the pompom trim from the Pocket Life Kit and the tassels from the Scrapbook Kit.

I went for a clean and light layout and started by adding a frame to my picture. The black makes a nice contrast to the white background and it has the perfect size.

The 'MAGIC' matches the colors of my picture so well and so I decided to make the title 'you are magic', because she is, and went for a horizontal design. I added the journaling on a label from the cutaparts and placed one of the gorgeous golden hearts from the foam stickers underneath my picture to fill up the space.
But before I started glueing things down, I added some black splatters using the black Pinkfresh Studio watercolor from the shop and Kira's awesome technique. She puts the color on a stamping block, adds water and sprinkles it over the page by using a brush (thanks Kira for this great trick).

To balance it all, I cut the striped paper from the Pattern Paper Play apart and put the stripes on the left-hand side of my page, added some washi and the pompom trim and went over it with my sewing machine to add a little more interest.

I also placed the adorable embroidery embellishment on the bottom left using foam adhesive for more dimension. But before I glued it down I added one of the tassels just for a little something. I attached the other two to the frame using some white thread.

To bring in more of the gold, I added some stars to my cluster and finished off the layout by doing some stamping, I used the stamps that come in the Scrapbook Kit.

Melanie
