Our June Guest Designer: Melanie Funke

Hello CTK friends, Melanie back here and I am excited to show you my second project as a guest designer for Citrus Twist Kits.

I  created a layout by using both, the Life Crafted Cravings and the Scrapbooking Add-on Kit.

First I made a frame by using the lovely flower paper and cutting my white cardstock to about 10.5x10.5  inches. After that I decided to use the lovely rainbow paper to create a space for my picture

I added the green polka dot paper to connect the rainbow paper to the ‚flower frame‘ and used some of the paper embellishments as layers to create more depths. I also ruffled up the edges of the papers or tore them. I love doing it, it’s such an easy way to create dimension!

After that I created two embellishment clusters on my page, one top left and the second one at the bottom right. I made a loose grid by using all kind of embellishments just making sure to balance the colors.

The cute colorful alpha stickers were perfect to create a short title and that finishes off my page.

Pocket Page Challenge with Erica

Hey guys! I hope you're having a crafty week. It's Erica here with the weekly pocket page challenge. Today I am sharing week 18 in my 2020 album using the June Cravings Kit and Scrapbooking Add-On.

I love all the purple and blue tones in this kit. For this page I focused on those two colours and even altered the digital Social Hour card in Photoshop to match the blue in the kit. I wanted to use as many of the adorable lavender tiny word stickers as possible and found a home for one of them on almost every card. 

I then used the multi coloured alphas from the Scrapbooking Add-On kit to create a pop of colour. I used these alphas in three places across the page creating a visual triangle. I love how well these match the colours in the kit!

On this card celebrating National Scrapbooking Day, I used a paper from the Cravings kit and two strips of pattern that I fussy cut from one of the 12x12 pages in the Scrapbooking Add-On. I layered a rainbow puffy sticker from the Magical Forest Thickers and a tiny word sticker.

I also used a few pieces from the June Cutapart Elements and Digital Tags. This days of the week element was the perfect size to fit inside this 3x4 card I cut down from a 12x12 sheet in the Scrapbooking Add-On.

I ended by adding a few puffy stickers across the layout and I love the way it came out!

3-to-Inspire with Angela Tombari

Hello firends!

It's Angela here with a new Life Crafted layout made with the beautiful June Cravings Life Crafted Kit. Today, I have a 3-to-Inspire challenge for you. Here are the three prompts to follow, if you'd like to play along with us:

1. Use three photos

2. Use a digital file or a cut file

3. Use stamps with at least one colored ink 

You can create a layout on your Life Crafted album, a Traveler's Notebook layout or a pocket page spread too. What is important is to follow the three prompts I've just listed above.

Here is what I came up with:

For my spread I used three photos of 3x4 inches and I put them into two page protectors #2. I embellished each photo using a few pieces of chipboards and puffy stickers from the kit, in purple and in yellow.

Between the two page protectors, I created a transparent page out of a piece of acetate. On the acetate I sticked one of this month cut files that says 'Focus on the good stuff'. I cut it using the purple patterned paper of the kit and I sticked it on the acetate using my little Xyron. You can find the cut file here, on the Citrus Twist shop.

Along the side of the acetate page, I attached a label that I cut from the label cut apart sheet. I decorated it with some die cuts and I stamped the phrase 'Only This' from June 2020 Traveler's Notebook stamp set using purple ink.

I hand wrote the journaling directly on a 3x4 inches journaling card. On it, I stamped a few words and phrases, too. The ampersand stamp is from Yes stamp set. I stamped it first in black and then with purple ink, keeping it a little bit off set from the first black stamp. 'This' is from June 2020 Traveler's Notebook, as well as the purple phrase 'my favorite show'. I stamped it in black and colored the inside with a yellow marker.

Today we are so excited to welcome and introduce our June 2020 Guest Designer : MELANIE FUNKE.   Melanie is a past design team member, subscriber and overall awesome designer and friend.   Her clean and colorful designs are always a joy to find in our feed, and we think you are going to love her as much as we do!

I live in the north west of Germany in a small town near Cologne called Bergisch Gladbach with my life partner. In my spare time I love being outside riding my bike or going on hikes. But I also enjoy cooking and baking and love cuddling up on the sofa listening to a good audiobook or watching a show on netflix. 

When it comes to scrapbooking, Layouts are my favorite but I also love working in the Life Crafted Album, it’s such a great format to document every day life, and making a mini every now and then.

Q & A with Melanie

When did you start Scrapbooking?

 I started scrapbooking in 2013 by documenting our December. I was lucky enough to
have a local scrapbook store where I could try out things like different inks or die cutting and was taught some techniques by the nice owner while I was shopping for supplies. After making some Minis I started to create layouts and was hooked ever since.

What is something most people would not know about you?

When I’m not in the mood for scrapbooking but want to make something anyway I crochet. It’s so relaxing and I can do it even when I’m not feeling my best and don’t have a lot of creative energy.

What are the 3 scrapbooking products you can't live without?

What do you love about the June - CRAVINGS Life Crafted kit?

I love the colors of the kit, the soft lilacs combined with the mustardy yellow and the pinks look so pretty together.  The die cuts are so versatile and I love the frames, flowers and butterflies.  The theme of the kit is great, too.  I had so many ideas on what to document with the kit!

Finish this sentence “If you could see my scrapbooking space now . . . “ 

 you would see a mess. I’ve just finished a project and inks, die cuts, stamps and papers are  scattered all over my desk. I’m a neat and tidy person and love having my things organized, but when I’m creating my desk becomes messy very quickly.

Hey crafty friends,

I’m so thrilled to share my first project with you today I made by using the gorgeous June Cravings Kit. I created some spreads in my Life Crafted Album using some pictures I took during May, the Kit is just perfect for documenting every day life.

For the first spread I used two 3x4 cards on the left hand side and a page protector with 8 2x2 pockets for the right hand side.

I didn’t fill in all of the pockets, so that you can see through and you get a peek of the picture of my second spread.

I kept the left side pretty simple by putting the lovely rainbow text card and a picture into the pockets. I stamped a text on a label and used my attacher to secure it onto the picture. When I work in pocket pages I love to add something outside the pockets. It gives a different texture and makes it more interesting while flipping through the album. So I stuck two of the puffy stickers to each of the pockets.

For the spread on the right hand side I used some 3x4 cards from the kit and cut them into 2x2 inch squares. I added some  diecuts and used my sewing machine give it a little more texture. On this page I used some of the chipboard stickers and put them outside the pockets.

I added some stamped images to my pictures and placed the title directly onto the page protector with one of those cute small puffy hearts. I love how you can see through to the other spread.

For my second spread I filled the same pockets on the backside of the 2x2 page protector again using some stitching and some embellishments outside the pockets.

As I didn’t have room for my journaling, I made a little flip card to write down my text and put it into one of the pockets.

I added some stamping to my full page picture using this month’s stamp set and a chipboard to finish the spread.

For my third spread I used two patterned papers to create my background. I stuck one of them  inside the page protector and punched holes into the other one so that I could put it directly into the album.

I created kind of a grid layout on the left hand side by using the frames of the die cuts and my picture and added some puffy stickers and stamping onto the page. To finish it off, I glued the cute butterfly onto the page protector.

I also used one of the frames on the right hand side but this time for my picture. I added three embellishments around the picture to make the eye glide over page and placed my journaling at the bottom of the page, using a stamp to add more interest.

I hope I have inspired you to create something pretty with your Life Crafted Kits and I can’t wait to see what you’re making.

SUNDAY SKETCH with Nathalie

Nathalie with you today with this week's Sunday Sketch challenge.   I love working with sketches as they provide a blueprint for your project, and makes it easier and faster to create a project.   This week's sketch is a fun one, and i am sure you are going to love it:

For my first project, i chose to follow the sketch, and used only the June Add-on kit to build the layout

For my 12x12 layout, i chose to start the page with a bit of mixed media.   I created a rainbow impression of a stencil on the background of the page ( using Vicki Boutin Art Crayons).   My choice of colors in the paper layers are guided in part by the rainbow colors on the background.

I loved the ephemera from Maggie Holmes Sweet Story collection ( featured in this month's Add on kit).  One of the pieces featured a sentiment that matched the story of the page, so, i chose to  use it to create an interactive element for my page, and cover the journal lines with it.  For this, i used a brad to hold the pieces together, and make it able to swivel to reveal the story.

The biggest changes from the sketch are my choice of hearts instead of stars, the title placement and all the stamping around each cluster of hearts, but who can resist all the beautiful stamps each month.

Well, now let me show you how i was inspired by the sketch to create a page on my Family album:

This time, I used a combination of the Add on kit, Cravings Life Crafted kit and this month's Digital TN papers in my page.

For this layout, i rotated the sketch 90 degrees counterclockwise and then treated the photo and journal spot as one big picture, hence my film strip.   I added layers of papers from the Add on kit, and Digital papers as to follow  some of the layers in the original sketch.  I made sure to place the pictures and layers close to the center line of the layout ( i worked the page as a whole before splitting it up and punching holes)

I hand cut the stars from the Add-on papers and layered them as per the sketch.  Along the way, i added a few embellishments and stickers just as the sketch shows.  Once everything was secured, i trimmed my page in half and punched the holes.

The last change comes as i replaced the small label on the paper strip with the title for my page.  I used the ephemera and puffy alphas from the Life Crafted kit to complete my page.  I chose to add my lines of journal under the title and capped the page with a stamped sentiment from the This is Life: YES Stamp set.   

I loved working with the sketch and using it as inspiration for my layouts. Like i mentioned before, a sketch is a great starting point for your imagination, the rest is up to you.   Though our kits are sold out this month, it is always a good time to start a subscription for the upcoming month!
