Snapchat, Mini Album with Emma

Hi friends!  Emma on the blog today to share a fun little mini-album I created using the Pocket Life and Embellishment kits!

 

I love creating little mini-albums but truth be told, they used to really intimidate me!  Sounds crazy I know but filling all those little pages and trying to make each page "perfect" used to freak me out.  Then one day I let go of the idea of perfect and I've not looked back.  I will take any excuse to make a mini these days.....and this is a perfect example!  A mini-album about Snapchat.  HA!  Zack and I love Snapchat - the filters are silly and fun and I can guarantee the a couple minutes playing around with it will always get a giggle or two.

For this mini-album I decided to use the 3x4 cards as my base and just punched a single hole at the top of each for the O-ring.

The best part of mini-albums is that it allows you to use alot more photo's than you would usually use on a layout. I printed out eight (8) photo's for this and I know I'd never fit that many photo's onto one of my 6x8 pages!

To make the pages of my mini-album a bit sturdier I backed each 3x4 card up with some co-ordinating paper from the Pocket Life kit.  The 6x6 pattern papers from Elle's Studio in the Pocket Life kit are fun and bright, so they were a perfect match for this album!

Once the pages were sorted and I'd matched them with a photo, it was time to start my favourite part of the whole process - embellishing!  Embellishments are my thing.  I love 'em.  And I love playing around trying to get the right piece to fit!  Fortunately the Pocket Life kit this month has the most amazing set of die-cuts included that I had heaps to pick from!

And how awesome are the exclusive leatherette stickers?!  I've almost used every sticker on my sheet and wish we could get more from the store!

I also used pieces from the Embellishment kit throughout my mini-album.  The colours work perfectly with those in the Pocket Life kit!

I also added a confetti pocket into the album - I think I've managed to sneak one of these into almost all the mini-albums I've made, they are just such a fun element.  I punched circles from the papers out of the Pocket Life kit and then created a 3x3'ish pocket using vellum (machine stitched 3 sides, added my confetti then stiched along the top!).  Super easy

I'm already trying to think of what my next mini-album will be about.  I truly have so much fun putting them together.

Memories

One of the really cool things that you will find in your scrapbook kits, is a fun and exclusive cut apart sheet.  Each month this sheet includes an assortment of tags, labels, shapes, and phrases and today I am going to share one way that I like to use them!

Since purchasing an used manual typewriter six months ago, I have been all about typing my journaling and the cut apart sheet is just perfect for this!  I love being able to quickly load my sheet and type my journaling straight away. 

For today's layouts, I used a total of three labels to type a few details from this day. After cutting them out with a pair of scissors, I was able to play around with their placement until I found the right spot for them. The colors in the cut apart sheet coordinate perfectly with the June Scrapbook Kit.

So how do you all like to use the cut apart sheet? Do you like the labels like me or are the phrases more your thing? I would love to hear your ideas!

Sunday Sketch with Veera

Hi, It's Veera here to share this week's scrapbook sketch with you! This sketch is so much fun, I especially liked the banners on top so I decided to follow the sketch very closely.

For my layout I used a combination of June's main kit and add-on kit. Here's my take:

I wanted to use a wide variety of colors in this layout to create a fun look. The sketch had a lot of white space in it too which balanced the colors nicely. I also chose a neutral picture for this layout so that the colors in the picture wouldn't clash with the different patterns and colors included in this layout.

The chipboard sticker sheet had this lovely banner with the text "I could cuddle you forever". I really wanted to use that but I needed to figure out how to cover the picture of cat in the banner. I layered two tags and the cat was gone!

Tuesday Tutorial with Inkie Quill ~ Floating Embellishment Clusters

What's up scrappy peeeeps?!

I have a easy but effective technique to show you today for Tutorial Tuesday - the mysterious "floating" embellishment cluster.

Make sure you scroll to the bottom of this post to watch the full process video using the June Pocket Life Kit :)

All you need for this tutorial are your 6x6" papers, a few basic punches/dies and some plastic packaging. Easy peasy!

I decided to choose some of my fav punches - a basic 2" (ish) heart, 1" circle, 1" scalloped circle and a teeny tiny heart.

1. Punch several shapes using your punches or dies.

2. Cut out a 3x4" piece of plastic packaging to use as a backing for your floating cluster.

3. Attach one of your clusters to one side of the plastic packaging.

4. Flip over the packaging and mirror the same shapes by creating a second cluster on the reverse side.

5. Decorate with some tiny word stickers or phrases.

6. Carefully slide the plastic piece into your pocket protector, and voila! Floating embellishment!

Lilith's June Layouts

Hello there everyone. It's Lilith with a new blog post for Citrus Twist. Today I'll be sharing 4 layouts I have created with the June Boardwalk Scrapbook kit, the June Best Day Add-on kit and the Embellishment kit.

On the first layout I used a butterfly origami die cut and chopped the top and bottom strips off to let the pink and purple from the background paper show through. I created a layered cluster to the top with my photo and added another in the opposite bottom corner. To create flow I used some sequins from May's kits.

For layout two the colours are a lot more subtle and I opted for a vertical design but with once again a diagonal flow of the layout which draws the eye towards the photo. I added some leaf die cuts for volume and detail and finished the layout off with some mist splatters.

Layout three is probably my favourite because it is so colourful and it has butterflies on it. I LOVE butterflies. I used the same die cut as the first one. Nothing goes to waste.

For my last project I once again started with a die cut (created by Justnick). I cut out pieces of patterned paper and adhered them behind some of the flowers. Some mist splatters and email dots add the finishing touches.

Sunday Sketch Challenge

Hi there! It's Trina here today with your weekly challenge. Are you ready for your Sunday scrapbooking sketch? This week we have a 12" x 12" sketch for you that I've converted to an 8.5" x 11" layout.

I've done a loose representation of this sketch with my focus on the 3 stacked photos and the small gathering of title + embellishments. I worked with both the June 2017 Boardwalk Pocket Life kit and Scrapbooking kit.

I think I had the most fun with the Title/Journaling spot in the lower right of the sketch. To type on the Elle's Studio Live Laugh Love Bits & Pieces piece I adhered it with light-tack tape runner to a piece of paper so I could roll it into my typewriter. Here is a close-up:

3-to Inspire with Mira

Hello! It's Mira Jurecka with 3-to Inspire challenge! You can find this challenge here every Saturday for those who need a little extra creative push to get scrapbooking, to keep scrapbooking or for those who just like a challenge! Your take on this challenge can be a layout or a PL spread and remember that you'll want to include all 3 prompts on your project.

Here's my inspiration - I took some old pictures from our honeymoon in Rome and created two pocket pages and my very first Traveller's Notebook layout:

And prompts for this week are:

1. Create really HUGE title
2. Mix two different fonts in this title
3. Use at least one arrow and one heart in Your work


And here are my pages and the prompts in details:

June Sprinkles Kit had those big colorful letters included, so it was easy to create huge titles. I mixed these letters with alpha stickers and stamps from Pocket Life Kit (added a piece of my handwritting too) so the titles are a bit more interesting than usually.

June "Boardwalk" Pocket Life Kit was full of hearts and arrows, so I used them in many configurations. But if You happen to work with the kit that has no arrows or hearts inside, remember that You can always doodle them on Your page to meet the third prompt, okay?

Tuesday Tutorial: Useing One Cut File Three Ways

Hello again, Citrus Twist fans! This is Megan and I am back with a simple tutorial for you. I am having so much fun using the Boardwalk scrapbooking kit this month! If you're not already a member you can use my code, MEGANB25OFF, for 25% off your first kit in a NEW subscription.

I don't know about you, but I have a hard time using cut files. There is so much inspiration out there, I really don't know why this is a problem for me. I decided that since I have such a hard time using them I would do a tutorial on different techniques.

I have 3 different ideas on how you can use ONE cut file on a layout. I actually used these 3 ideas on 2 layouts.

1.) Use the cut file as a stencil. This technique isn't anything too crazy, but I really love the texture you can add to a layout when using mixed media and a stencil. I am pretty cheap when it comes to buying stencils so this is a way to be able to make my own, since I have a Silhouette and can use that to cut out whatever files I want.

For this background I used a paper from my stash because I'm all out of the ones from the kit. I've been making so many layouts, I didn't have another 12x12 piece. Ooops! I wanted to use the front side of the cut file for my 2nd technique so I flipped the cut file to the back and started painting away. I used Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Patina for the leaves and Shimmerz Paints Dazzlers in Gummy Berry Blue and Pucker Up Pink for the flowers.

This is what the background looked like when I was finished. I really love how the colors all working together to create a pretty background.​

2.) Use the cut file as is. This is probably the most popular technique to use your cut files. You can see that the mixed media I used kind of seeped through to the front side of the cut file. I actually really like how that turned out. It gives the cut file a bit more texture and color.

Using the cut file in opposite corners creates a framed in look and brings your eye right into the photo. I will eventually do journaling on the left side of the photo to complete the frame look.

3.) Use the negative piece of the cut file. This technique can be quite complex, especially with a cut file like the one I picked out. My first idea was to put foam on the back of the little petals, but they were so small I didn't feel like that would work out very well so I decided to glue the pieces to the mixed media petals on the first layout.

These are just a few ways you can use your cut files. There are so many others as well, such as back the file with patterned paper, which is really popular and using the outside piece you usually discard. There are more I probably haven't even thought of yet as well.
