Tuesday Tutorial with Veera

It's Veera here today to share this week's Tuesday Tutorial. This time I don't have just one but two process videos for you! Both of these are scrapbook layouts made with the lovely January kits.

I'm a quick scrapper which means that these videos will be quick to watch through, thanks for iMovie's speed up function :)

In this first layout I wanted to use those pom-pom frames. See the process video from here: https://youtu.be/R0sR2xYe_B0

In the other layout I was inspired by the ephemera pack and wanted to use all those notebook inspired elements. See the process video from here: https://youtu.be/jqZg2Wwhfc4

I hope you liked the layouts and videos!

Documenting the Good & the Bad with Kathleen

Hey there, it's Kathleen here again and first of all I want to wish you all a Happy New Year!!

When I unpacked my Citrus Twist Kits January "Sugarland" kits right after Christmas, I absolutely loved the bright, fresh colour scheme. I loved working on my December Daily album, which is filled with lots of greens, reds, but also blush, black and white, but I felt SO ready for a non-Christmassy colour palette!

All I knew when I started this layout was that I wanted to use one of those gorgeous pompom frames from the Crate Paper "Good Vibes" collection that were included in the Main kit, as well as lots of the patterned papers.

Now when I see pompom, mint/teal, pink and yellow, I immediately think of my scrapbooking heroine Suse Fish (who happens to be a guest designer this month - so keep your eyes peeled for the visual feast that awaits you!). If you've seen her work on IG or her blog (and I really can't believe you haven't), then you know that these are the typical Suse-colours. And she also happens to be the queen of layering which allows for lots of different patterns and papers on your layout.

So I quickly searched my Pinterest board where I keep my favourite layouts of all the talented ladies out there and found one by Suse that she had actually made with a Citrus Twist Kits kit in the past - how perfect is that? I absolutely love all the layers on the right side of the layouts with lots of little bits peeking out from below:

Now a lot of times when I have another layout as inspiration or starting point for mine, it starts off looking quite similar (in terms of placement and structure) but then often ends up taking a different turn. Sometimes you can still see the similarities, and sometimes it completely changes up to a point where there is (almost) no resemblance between the two.

This time, however, you can definitely see a lot of similarities and that is because it just worked and felt "right". I didn't feel the need to change a lot of things because the way Suse had laid out her page and what she chose to put on hers, actually worked really well for me!

I didn't plan on keeping almost everything like it was in Suse's layout, it just kind of happened - haha. I only looked at her layout a few times when I started mine and then closed it, but it seems it was really stuck in my head ;)

So as you can see, I also used some torn strips of some of the patterned papers from the kit and layered them on the right side of my layout. I also tucked in pieces of the vintage book page that is included (how cool is that?!) and some other bits and pieces like tags and labels.

I also used one of the cute exclusive phrase stickers (how fun are the phrases on them??) that reads "It's complicated" and stuck it in there. When you look at the photo of me in the pool with the blue sky and sunshine, you would think that this is a really happy, perfect memory - which in reality it isn't. I was actually sick a lot while we were on vacation and spent a lot of the time in bed, but one day decided I wanted to get into that pool at least once to have some nice photos to take away from this trip..

So to hint at the fact that there is more to this story than what you can see in the photo, I used this sticker. I included more journaling on one of those cards that was included in the Crate Paper "Good Vibes" ephemera pack which fitted perfectly behind my photo. I also used the "The Story" stamp from the exclusive stamp set to give another hint that there is this card tucked away behind the photo that you can pull out.

On the left side of my page I added another small(ish) cluster of embellishments. I used that cute die cut tag from the ephemera package, layered a piece of patterned paper behind it and sprinkled some more bits and pieces on/around it. I cut off the part of the tag that ran off the page, turned it around (the backside is white) and used it in the right corner of my layout as another layering piece.

The little "good vibes" phrase was part of one of the branding strips of the patterned papers and it fit perfectly onto that small tag. Now I said that the memory isn't just all good, so the "good vibes" and "chill out" phrases might seem a bit wrong - but the fact of the matter is that we ended up having a lot of fun taking these photos.

So even though the circumstances weren't perfect, it wasn't all bad and I wanted my layout to reflect that.

To finish off my page I added my title with the phrase thickers, splattered some yellow colour shine across my page and added some more embellishments like the wood veneer arrow* in the bottom left corner, and some stars in different shapes and textures*.

* I got the wood veneer arrow and the yellow acrylic stars in one of the "NSD 2016 Bits & Pieces Grab Bags" that you can get in the CTK shop for only $3!!

I am very pleased with how this page turned out (and I have Suse to thank for that because her layout was so inspiring!) and I am also very happy about how I documented the "not so great" part about this memory. I don't only want to scrap about the happy memories and I also don't want to just leave out the negative sides of certain events or memories, so finding a way to incorporate these as well (in a way that I still like the project) is important, I think.

I hope you like today's inspiration - whether it's the sketch, the colour scheme or the part about documenting the good and the bad!

Happy crafting, friends!
Kathleen

So many layouts

Hello Citrus Twist followers. It's Lilith and today I'll be sharing my layouts that I created with the January 2017 main scrapbook kit and the sprinkles kit. When my kit arrived I didn't know if I'd be able to create anything as my grandmother had just died and I didn't feel like being creative but in the end I created 7 layouts which is a record for me. I think it was very therapeutic creating the layouts and I felt it helped me through those first few rough days.

For this first layout I used a leftover from a cut file I created. I needed some labels for stamps and I thought it would be nice to use the paper that was left.

For the second layout I opted to focus on using the die cuts that came in the kit. I layered them and made this simple yet detailed layout.

On the next project I wanted to work with the wood veneer hearts. I liked the idea of them dangling on twine and I recreated that effect on my layout.

This layout I created just after my gran died. It is my favourite.

Once again I used some leftovers from cuts I had made with my cameo. I just had to use stars and the yellow star patterned paper in the main kit is my FAVOURITE.

And last by not least I used the balloon paper to create these simple layout. I did a little bit of fussy cutting and created a floating effect with the balloons. Love how it turned out.

Thanks for stopping by, happy scrapping and see you soon.

Sunday Sketch with Aimee

Happy Sunday Scrapers. Ready to get down and crafty? Well, then let me show you your sketch.

If you been with us a long time you'll know I have a bit of love/hate relationship with Sketch Challenges. Honestly, I will never voluntarily offer to do one, but at the same time some of my greatest pages here at Citrus Twist have come from taking on the challenge. This year I'm trying to turn over a new leaf. I've decided not to get to bogged down in rules and use a sketch the way it was meant to be used - as jumping off point and an inspiration. Not a concrete map. So without further ado. Here is my page that only vaguely looks like the sketch :)

I used this months Main Scrapbook page and Sprinkles kit to create the page. I did use a small strip of washi and a stamped flower I had lying on my desk to finish the page off but that's mostly because I hate having to put little bits away. Here are a few close ups so you can see the details.

Now it's your turn. To play along with this week's sketch challenge, create a layout inspired by the sketch, upload it to the CTK Gallery with today's date (1/29) in the title, and you will be eligible to win a $5 gift certificate to the CTK Store!

Until next time,

Aimee Xx

3 To Inspire with Emma

Hi everyone!  Emma here with this weeks 3-To-Inspire challenge!

We offer this challenge each Saturday for those who are looking for a little extra push to get scrapbooking, to keep scrapbooking, or for those of you just looking for a challenge (and the chance to win a little something is an added bonus!).

I hope you'll join in with me this week using the following prompts:

1. Use a black & white photo
2. Use gold accents on your page
3. Try to go monochrome  (i.e. create a page using one colour, this does not include neutrals such as black/white/etc)

And here's a look at the page I created:

I went with mint/green for my colour (although for some crazy reason I stuck a blue checkered chipboard piece...but lets pretends that isn't there OK...ha!).

I love all the pops of gold in the Add-on this month!  I'm still a huge fan of gold on my pages; I hope it never goes out of fashion (although I wish it was easier to photograph...) ;)

To add some dimension I just used a couple of the die-cuts out of the Main/Add-on behind my photo (with foam-dots behind each layer to give it more oomph!).

Now it's your turn! Use the three prompts to create your own projects and share them with us here in the gallery and/or our Facebook Forum.  I really can't wait to see your pages!

Thanks, Em xo

Sunday Sketch with Marie-Pierre

Hello everyone, Marie here today with you for another Sunday Sketch Challenge. It's such a fun sketch with lots of possibilities. I hope you'll like it!

The sketch has 3 photos, a small space for journaling and a fair amount of white space. I used much bigger photos which reduced my white space a lot, but still, I could fit in lots of embellishments and even all the things I wanted to say.

My layout is about our January 1st celebration with my family. The feel I wanted to give to the layout is one of joy, and I wanted to show the bond and friendship and love that exist in our family. I achieved that with the title and the pictures I chose.  The title is big, bold and vibrant and the words "delight" and "magic" are just perfect for the idea I wanted to carry. I chose pictures with lots of big, genuine smiles, people looking into the eyes of others, and feet and arms interlacing each others.

There are a lot of things going here with 3 busy pictures so I used the embellishments to calm the layout and to hold everything together. To do so I placed my embellishments in a triangle (the third point of the triangle being the title in the middle), and I made sure that my photos were inside that triangle. I then stitched all around the middle square of patterned paper.

There were no christmasy colors in the January kit so I decided to just try and keep the color combo calm and to not have it compete with the colors in my photos. I sticked to yellows and pinks and added some black dots at the very end to add some punch.

The black enamel dots are also accentuating the stamped details that you see in my title cluster.

It's now your turn to play with the sketch. And if you feel like it, go ahead and share your layout with us in the gallery for a chance to win a 5$ gift certificate to spend in the Citrus Twist Kits store. Don't forget to put today's date in the title. Good luck and most importantly, have fun!!

3 to Inspire with Gina

Happy Saturday everyone and welcome to this week's 3 to Inspire challenge!

Here are your 3 prompts:

1. Scrap a black + white photo
2. Frame your photo
3. Include some stars

Here's my page, created with the gorgeous Jameson main kit

Such pretty die-cuts in this kit, they certainly make a page easy to embellish! They are also great for creating titles and journaling on your page, I've added one of the exclusive Pinkfresh alpha stickers to a die-cut to create a title

Now it's your turn! Use these three prompts to create a project, then share it with us here in the gallery and/or our Facebook Page.  Have fun! :)
