Playing With Pocket Life with Jen

Happy Friday to all! Today, I am sharing Pocket Life pages made with the September "Favorites" PL Kit, the "Big Deal" Embellishment Add-On and the "Weather Report" Stamp Add-On. For this week 31 spread, I embraced pink! A rarity for me but, the happy, summer photos begged for that lightness and the softer colors in this months kits obliged.

The star wood veneers in this month's PL kit are simply delicious! I wanted to maximize their impact by playing up the shape so, cut a 3x4" star background out of one of the Hello Again papers using my Silhouette, then backed it with another star-like pattern. With a smattering of the veneers and some of the Dear Lizzy stickers (alphabet from a past CTK kit), I'm calling this one of my favorite homemade filler cards to date! For the photo card to it's right, I simply layered a piece cut from the "Happy Little Moments" exclusive 3x4 card on the bottom portion of my picture, added a bit of twine and another two Dear Lizzy cardstock stickers.

When I found out the stamp add-on this month was a weather set, I was thrilled! Weather is an every day event, after all so, I knew it would get a lot of use. On the card below I simply stamped the rain and sun stamps to an adhesive label from my stash and used a colored pencil for check marks. That watercolor chevron on the right? LOVE. Although, I'm normally a straight line journaler, I went ahead and followed those lovely zig zags this time.

The exclusive 3x4 cards in this month's PL kit are beautiful! The one below was an immediate favorite. I just added a piece of the people chain border from the Hello Again stickers in the Embellishment Kit, along with one of the center hearts, to symbolize our family of four.

For this week's date card, I used the fun chit-chat print from the 6x6 pad as a base, added one of the awesome vellum pockets from the Embellishment kit (and slipped in a card with extra journaling on the back), a snip of the subtle pink pattern and a piece of the heart border sticker from the Dear Lizzy sheet. "Hello August" was cut from vellum using my Silhouette.

And, here are some sketches based on these pages...enjoy!

Be Inspired by collages

Hello, it's Nathalie here to share another one of my layouts. This one was created with the September Main kit only and uses a collage as inspiration. Katie Pertiet has an awesome board on Pinterest called "collage inspiration" and I recommend you follow it as many of them are translatable (is that even a word?) into layouts... as I am about to show you:

I looked at this inspiration piece (originally a canvas by Maureen Brouillette sold by World Market but no longer available) and could envision a layout. One of my challenges was to incorporate a "less than perfect" piece of paper with my son's handwriting and I thought that it might fit into this design. After carefully studying the lines and the repetition of certain patterns, I created my page:

Here's a close up:

KIT USED: September Main kit only

NON KIT ITEMS: alphas from previous kit and from my stash, veneer stars from previous kit, washi tapes from previous kit and from my stash, button and mist from my stash

The result is pretty different from my usual but I really enjoyed the exercise and I do think that it was a easy way to incorporate that piece of memorabilia from my son.
Have you used collages as inspiration before? Please share with us if you have! I'd love to see your pages!

Tuesday Tutorial Video with Melissa

Hello, Citrus Twist fans! This is Melissa here with your weekly Tuesday Tutorial, and this time around I have a process video for you showing how I made the layout below.

CTK - Happy Camper.jpg

After watching this video by Wilna Furstenburg I was inspired to try out her technique of using hot glue to adhere ribbons to a layout. I scaled down the number of ribbons I used to two (she used lots, and it was lovely!) and incorporated the look into my own style, and it definitely wasn't something I would have tried had I not seen her video first! I love the way it turned out, and you can see how I put the layout together from start to finish in the video below (if you're reading this in email or don't see the embedded player below, click here to see the video on YouTube).

In the video I also show how to use the Lawn Fawn Quinn's ABCs dies that are currently in the Citrus Twist shop. These are so fun to use with different mediums like cork, foam, or even the felt that I used on my layout this week. There's also a new Cole's ABCs die set from the same manufacturer that just recently arrived should you want a slightly more formal font.
