Guessing Game #5 - Wonder what's in the October kit add-on?

Hello Citrus Twist fans! It's Nathalie here today to share a first page created with the October "Carefree" kit add-on. If you follow Citrus Twist Instagram feed, you've seen a couple of close-ups of this page already... now here's the whole enchilada:

"Picturesque Oporto"

The gorgeous yellow background paper is such an eye catcher, I decided to go with a clean look this time. Please note that the green Thickers and the string are not included in the kit but come from previous kits. Here are some detail shots:

Guessing Game #4 - Playing with Pocket Life with April

Hey everyone!  Happy Friday and happy Day #4 of the October Kits Sneak Week!

You saw my 6x6 layout on Wednesday, but today I'm here to share my week 35 Pocket Life spread.

The pink Kelly Purkey alphas ("review" and "HH at PB") plus the teal October Afternoon alphas ("bar & grill", "$4 shots", "we do!") are from my stash.  The "happymail" and "hooray" stamps are also from my stash.  BUT everything else, from the paper to the embellishments and the awesome arrow wood veneers are a part of the PL or PL Embellishment kit!

PS.  Please don't judge me on how crazy MESSY our countertops and inside our cabinets are.  We are doing some kitchen renovations right now, so everything is just crazy for us right now.

I love the new exclusive PL cards that are designed by the talented Kimberly Kalil!

I always find that cut-away papers are so fun!  One of the sheets in the 6x6 pad had a bunch of typed words/phrases, so I cut it apart to make a filler card.

And here's an idea on what to include in your PL spreads - some interesting stamps that you don't typically have access to!  During this week of my PL, I got a sweet surprise from one of the other CTK DT girls, Sam!  She sent me some happymail all the way from Malaysia, so I included the stamps that she used on the envelope!

And here are your sketches!  I liked Melissa's idea of making it digital, so that's what I did with my sketches this month.  It's actually a lot easier to do it on a computer, so you can probably expect it in this format from me from now on also!

Don't forget!  Leave a comment for your chance to win a $5 GC to the CTK shop! :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Guessing Game #3 - Be Inspired with Sandy

I am always excited and inspired by typography. Playing with different font types and different placements of journaling text  often transform a simple design into a truly interesting page for me. These photos, taken at night of Singapore's popular, beach rave party ZoukOut, lack clear details. So I create a design where the photos provide a taste of the party's atmosphere while the eye-catching typography becomes a focal point.

The title treatment come together from a combination of ideas I found on Pinterest. A stencil font to fit in with the urban theme of a dance party. Then I overprint with the same font in outline for a shadow effect which adds the illusion of depth. For some final pizzazz, I split the common alphabet "O" so that it's shared by both words and links them in the title.

Guessing Game #2 - 6x6 Paper Play with April

Welcome to the second day of sneak week here at Citrus Twist Kits!  April here to share the layout I made using the gorgeous October Pocket Life Kit and the new PL Embellishment Kit (which I LOVE).

Don't you love when 6x6 pads are made with coordinated tear strips?!  It just gives you that-much-more to use and I love that!  I try to use every bit of scraps in my kits and this layout was no exception.  The background for this layout was made using JUST the tear strips from the 6x6 paper pad.  I hid the punched holes with my pictures (and yes, I used the same picture four times) and some embellishments.

Here are some close-up shots.  I absolutely LOVED the enamel hearts included in the PL Embellishment Kit!!!  Can you see the perforated edge on the tear strips? I am too lazy of a scrapper to clean those up! :)

These "sequin" rub-ons were so fun to play with!

Malika's Scrap Space

I am very lucky to have my own little crafting space in the finished basement of our house.  It is so nice to work on a project for just 10 minutes and  be able to walk away if I get called by one of my kids, rather than having to clean up right away.  Needless to say, this is not the tidiest space of my house!  I am a saver, a reuser... not a waster... so I find every once in a while I have to go through my supplies and ask myself if I am every going to use this piece of patterned paper again??  Otherwise it can get kind of junked up pretty quickly! Since I am in the basement, I don't get a ton of natural light.  I have one window, but I always take my layouts upstairs to photograph. Anyway, join me and I will take you on a little tour of my scrapbook room...

Introducing Our Guest Designer ~ Malika Kelly

My name is Malika Kelly. I am a mother to three beautiful kids, Noah 9, Ashton 7, and Piper 4 and wife to a hard working husband, Andy. We live in central Illinois, but I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. Before having kids, I was teaching elementary school. I have since decided to stay home for my family. I have always been the crafty type, even as a young child. I started scrapbooking about 13 years ago, just after we got married. I love documenting my children's lives with pictures, stories and the funny things they say. I am also a big fan of Project Life.

Guest Design Q&A
1. How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start? I have been scrapbooking since 2001! Wow, that's about 13 years ago! I got married and moved to the US from Canada in the year of 2000 and started with scrapbooking our wedding pictures. There was an amazing local scrapbook store in a nearby town. We didn't have a lot of money but just a couple pieces of patterned paper and a few stickers made me a very happy person! My style has changed a lot since then…

2. How would you describe your scrapbooking style? My style is whimsical yet eclectic. I love to layer, starting with ink splatters and stamps on my base, and then building layers of patterned papers and tags. I almost always stitch on my layouts (either with my machine or by hand). Finally, I add clusters of embellishments, such as bits of wood veneer, sequins, enamel dots. I like to keep a lot of white space and limit the number of pictures I use on a layout… three seems like a lot to me. Layouts, mini albums, Project Life are some of my favorite projects right now.

3. What scrapbookers have influenced you most? Oh there are so many scrapbookers' styles that I love. Marcy Penners' white space and carefree style pleases me every time. I love the little details that Gluestick girl, Lisa Truesdell adds to her layouts. The hand stitching on Sasha Farina's layouts is beautiful. And lately, I have found that I am drawn to Liz Tamahana's minimalistic style.

4. What is your favorite thing about kit clubs? Kit clubs are great because the picking is done for me! I welcome the challenge of working with supplies from a bunch of different manufacturers. So many scrapbooking companies make supplies that compliment each other without even knowing it. For me it is fun to mix and match bits and pieces from different lines rather than sticking to one line that obviously coordinates.

5. If you were about to leave on your dream vacation, what are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items you would bring with you (besides your camera and photos!)? 1. tiny attacher 2. some washi tape 3. a couple pieces of patterned paper 4. black journaling pen 5. a mini album of some sort to hold it all together

6. How would you describe the Citrus Twist October's kit and what do you enjoy most about the it? The October kit was a lot of fun to work with. There's a lot of blues - navy and teals, which could make it somewhat masculine... but it is complimented with pinks and yellow and some floral patterns, making it very versatile. The polka dot patterned papers give this kit a whimsical fell that I absolutely love. There are a very generous amount of embellishments, including my favorite these days - - sequins! The exclusive stamp sets are beautiful! And wow, what a clear imagine they stamp! I just love this kit!

Top 5 favorite items in the shop right now: 1. Studio Calico Cork Arrow/Chevrons 2. Basic Grey Label Sticker Pack 3. TCW Days of the Week 3x4 Stencil 4. Black 03 Precision Pen 5. Studio Calico Punctuation Wood Veneers.

Now it's your turn to welcome our guest in the comments below and each commenter gets a chance to win one of Malika's favorite things!!

Check back later today to see her scrap space :)
