Sunday Sketch with Kira

Hello again friends!  It's Kira and I am back with a 12x12 scrapbook layout for the Sunday Sketch.

I stuck fairly close to the sketch this week.  And I used mostly pieces from the PL kit, along with a few items from the main kit.

I started by trimming my photos down to 2.5"x2.5".  My youngest son is obsessed with splash pads, and lucky for him, we visit one every week at the farmers market we go to on Sundays.  I have so many photos of him just giddy with excitement as he plays in the water. I printed the photos in black and white since there were a lot of colors going on in the original photos and his shirt was red...which isn't conducive to the type of colors I like to use in my scrapbooking.  Lol.

Since I printed in black and white, I was able to pull in whatever colors I liked to my layout.  And the first paper that called to me was this blue and yellow floral in the PL kit.  Isn't it gorgeous?!  I cut a 1" strip to layer behind my photos.

I played off the blue in the floral print by bringing in this cornflower blue striped paper to layer behind each of the photos.

I was flipping through the PL cards when this speech bubble card jumped out at me.  I thought it would look so cute to use speech bubbles instead of squares, like the sketch suggests, so I fussy cut each of those out. 

I drew some squares on the right side of my layout with a pencil and then picked a matching blue thread to stitch over the top of the squares.  I chose a simple title, Fun, for my layout using the Wild Heart glitter Thickers.

I finished off the layout with some flower and heart ephemera from the PL die cut pack.  And it was complete after I added some typed journaling.

Sunday Sketch with Ginny Hughes

I love the sketch this week, it has fun layers and those circles can translate to anything you want them to be! 

I thought about drawing some circles or punch circles out of patterned paper but then I looked through the kit and saw the letter stickers and had an “aha moment”, I have so many letter stickers in my stash & I am always trying to think of fun ways to use them and so I switched from scattered circles to letters instead. 

I kept the basics of the sketch pretty much the same: the journaling, the title up top and the 4x6 photo, I just flipped it all vertical instead of horizontal.   

I hope you are all inspired to try something fun with this week’s sketch! 

Pocket Life Sketch Friday

The November Happy Lane PL kit is full of fun, unexpected colors. I love that this kit works for any location - hello to all my friends enjoying a warm, sunshiney autumn! I also added in some tidbits from the Hello Tomorrow Embellishment Kit for the perfect finishing touches.

Here are a couple of layouts I created this month. I loved the patterned paper and felt that most of them worked so well that I minimized layering and focused on the photos and stamping.

 I love the subtle hint of faux-watercolor on the patterned paper as well!

I was loving the gold washi so much that I created my own card with just a few simple things. I love how easy it is to make custom PL cards.

Sunday Sketch with Trina & Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all of you Moms out there! Today my sketch is in memory of my Mom who I miss to pieces.

Here is a brand new sketch from Citrus Twist. This week we are working with two photos and lots of circles for embellishing, plus fun paper layers. Here it the sketch:

My twist on this week's sketch is a 12x12 conversion down to 6x8 for my Handbook album. I had to scrunch things down a bit and moved my journaling poem up to take the place of one of the 2 photos.

I loved the circles, stitched and otherwise, in this week's sketch and they are what really grabbed my attention. I did swap out the mist splatters for fussy cut hearts from the Rise & Shine paper that comes in this month's Main "Life Is . . . " May kit.

I have been holding onto the little bird October Afternoon flair button, wanting to use it on a layout about my mom for over a year, so that one came from my stash. I also used a piece of old lace from my mom's sewing stash for one of the sketch elements plus some shell buttons from her old sewing chest.

Sunday Sketch Challenge with Trina

It's Trina here with another week and another lovely sketch from Design Girl Kasia. Her sketches are a sure way to keep scrapbooking all month long, no matter what size or format--scrapbooking or pocket pages--you are working in. These days, I'm pretty much working in 8.5 x 11 and 6 x 8 format. These sizes fit my lifestyle so much nicer and I can quickly complete a layout in either of these trim sizes.

Here is Kasia's sketch:

I converted the 12 x 12 sketch to the 8.5 x 11 inch format by cutting down on the background between the vertical borders on the left and right sides. I used 2 photos instead of 3 to better fit the 8.5 inch width of my page.

I started the layout by splattering Tinsel Color Shine randomly on white card stock, then used the fun trapezoid shapes from one of the new Amy Tangerine Stitched pattern papers to create the vertical borders on each side.

The new kraft thickers from December's add-on inspired me to pull out my Heidi Swapp Color Shines in Tinsel and Black. I decided to mimic the popular hombre look by first painting the Tinsel Color Shine on with a brush. While the Tinsel was still wet, I painted over the lower half of each letter with the Black Color Shine, blending the Tinsel into the Black. Here is a close-up up of the end result:

I fussy-cut the butterflies out of one of the sheets of pattern paper in this kit:

Sunday Sketch Challenge with Trina

Welcome to the Sunday Sketch Challenge. We hope you'll play along with our sketch challenge this week and earn a chance to win a $5 gift certificate to Citrus Twist Kits.

This month I thought I'd mix it up and use Kasia's beautiful 12 x 12 sketch for an 8-1/2 x 11 page. These days I'm loving this size format more and more. This smaller, trimmer size is faster to complete (I did this in under 30 minutes), playful and fun.

I get to play with the "Seriously Happy" kit add-on this month and feel lucky to dig into its bright, happy colors. When I saw the circles in Kasia's sketch I just couldn't resist getting my cheese hole punch out and creating a cheese hole strip for the bottom of the page:

I used the "Seriously Happy" kit add-on plus some of the new Kaisercraft washi tape (black and white with sentimental expressions) that we've just added to the Citrus Twist store. I also used a couple of circle punches, my Silhouette Cameo, my Brother sewing machine (inexpensive and it gets the stitching job done!) and Heidi Swapp's Teal Color Shine. I didn't follow Kasia's sketch exactly but used it as a jumping off point:

If you follow my work you know I love to layer and bend up the edges of the layers . . . and sometimes my photos, too. The Heidi Swapp Favorite Things Ephemera from this kit are so versatile and I think it's going to take me a long time to use them all up. Yum . . . so many possibilities!

Here are more of my layers and some stitching. I was pretty random with my stitching and did not plan it out. I just sewed where it felt right:
