"Happy Moment", simple grid layout with Emma

Hi CTK friends!  Emma on the blog today with the a super simple little grid layout!  I am a big fan of grids when creating layouts; they're so easy to work with and help speed up the creative process for me.  And I have to confess that this would be the most basic little grid layout ever - because it's just one single grid line all the way down your page!  How easy right?! ;)

Here's a look at my page:

I just adore all the Die-Cut Cardstock Ephemera included in the Life Crafted "Best of This Life" kit this month and I wanted to use so many of the fun pieces in my layout so lining them up in a single grid down the middle of my page meant I could include them all!

I used one of the 6x8 cardstock papers for my base (went with the neutral grid paper!) and I started by centering my photo on the page - then picked some of the bigger ephemera pieces and positioned them above/below the photo.  Once I had the placements set I added in few of the smaller pieces to fill in some of the "white space" left on my page.

I fixed all the ephemera pieces using double-sided tape but I added a bit of machine stitching to a few pieces for a bit of added texture (in coordinating cotton of course!).

This is just a fun little page about some of the paper pages I've created recently (I've been having a bit of with paints) so I used a few of the stamp sentiments as my journaling.  I used the This Is Life "Chasing Curiosities" Stamp and Life Crafted Travelers Notebook Stamp (and Life Crafted kit stamp of course!).

Then I popped a few of the Puffy Stickers with Cardstock Topping around my page (I love, love, love these exclusive puffy stickers) on top of the ephemera and finished my page off with a few of the Enamel Shape Stickers (are these not the cutest little stickers? Perfect size!).

I'm super happy how this page finished up and it was such a quick, easy one to put together - which is such a huge win with me at the moment (never seem to be enough hours in the day!).

Although I think I love it mostly because of the fun colours included in this month's kit - it will be no surprise to anyone that knows me, that this is hands-down my most favourite Life Crafted kit yet.

Thanks so much for joining me on the blog today - I hope you are loving the July Life Crafted kit as much as I am.  I (and all of our Creative Team) truly love seeing your works on our Facebook Fanpage so please remember to share your pages there!

Take care, Em xo

The Peony - A Spread for my Life Crafted Album by Anna

Hi dear ones! Anna here today bringing you another happy creation using the fantastic July Life Crafted Kit, Best Of This Life. This time I opted for a spread for my awesome Life Crafted Album, I'm in love. These albums are just in the perfect size since I really like the Travelers Notebook format. The only issue is that I want them in all five colors, lol!

Now over to my pages.

The beautiful intricate cut file is a subscriber exclusive one which all CTK subscribers have access to. Our own super talented Nathalie is the designer of almost all of our die cuts. They are all so very beautiful.

As I've said many times before I'm a succer for labels and you always find plenty of them in every CTK Life Crafted kit, with or without text. I find them very useable on almost every project I create.

The pink alphas are picked from the CTK June Add On kit. Perfect match for these pages about one of my favourite flowers in my garden, the Peony!

And there you have it! Now it's your turn to create something of your own and please share it with us on Instagram #citrustwistkits and/or on our CTK Fan Page on Facebook. We love to see your gorgeous creations.

Until next time! Anna xo

More Inspiration from our July Guest Designer - LISA VARSHINE

Hello everyone!
We are so happy to welcome Lisa back to our blog for her last post as a Guest Designer.  We are sure you are going to love this project as much as her previous ones...

______________________________________

Hi friends! I’m back with my third project as this month’s guest designer. For my last project, I wanted to complete a weekly ProjectLife spread with the gorgeous Life Crafted kit and a few extras from the add-on. I love that the kit gives you all the beautiful pieces you need to make spreads like these quick and easy, but still so pretty.

I think my jumping off point for this spread was the floral print 4x6 card I used for the title. The bright colors in the July kit are perfect for documenting our summer stories. My typical process for weekly spreads is to print my photos first (at home), then choose my cards, journaling, and finally any embellishing and stamping. I always use the same format page protector for these spreads: eight 4x6 photos or cards, and eight 3x4 photos or cards. It’s not a hard and fast rule, but I usually include half photos, half cards in each 12x12 two-page spread.

The left side of this spread starts with my dated title card. At first I was considering stamping the date on a die cut and attaching it to the card, but I love the pattern so much that I didn’t want to throw off the symmetry. I took a chance and stamped right on top of the card and was pleasantly surprised with how legible the stamping was.

I always include a lot of color on my pages and this combination of lavender and bright yellow was so great. I had fewer words from this week, mostly photos. The 3x4 banner card provided just the right amount of space for me to include a few thoughts. The repeating love card seemed to be the perfect compliment to the other colors and patterns I had going on on this page. For the bottom right card, I wanted to include a little series of photos of my son having trouble waking up from his nap. I made a simple photo strip in photoshop and attached in to the card. That ended up being one of my favorite parts of this spread. I finished the page off with a circle chipboard and a fun “yay” die-cut.

On the right, I started this spread with a trimmed piece of patterned paper from the Life Crafted kit. I fell in love with this pattern and thought the color was a great fit. To add a little visual interest, I clustered a few die-cuts pieces and finished with a bright yellow chipboard heart sticker. I was so excited that the Pinkfresh die-cut pack included another fun little speech bubble. It worked perfectly with this photo and I love being able to repeat details through the spread to add a little cohesion. I think chipboard pieces are my favorite embellishment (so hard to mess up!) And this month’s set did not disappoint. I think between my three projects, I used every piece.

This spread was so fun and quick to put together. That’s exactly what I want from my CTK kits and they always come through! The gorgeous variety really helps me to stick with one kit and never fall too far behind in my documenting. Thank you so much for having me this month. I hope you were able to find a little inspiration somewhere in these projects!

Sunday Sketch with Marsha

Hey friends!  Marsha here with you today, and I'm excited to be sharing this week's Sunday Sketch challenge.  I love working with a sketch, and this one is perfection.

Here's a look at the sketch:

Here's the layout I created:

For my project, I decided to create a 6x8 layout.  This was a challenge for me, considering I normally create traveler's notebook pages.  However, by using the sketch as a jumping-off point, this page came together so quickly!

I used the July Life Crafted "Best of This Life" kit, the Stamp Add-on, and the This is Life "Chasing Curiosities Stamp

To begin the page, I chose a notebook print paper from the kit to use as my background and added some black mist splatters.  This often goes terribly wrong for me, so I like to do this as the first step in my process.

Next, I printed a photo of my mom and me, taken last year at the annual Relay for Life Cancer Breakfast.  We have been attending this event for many years- it's always fun, and a nice way to celebrate another cancer-free year!  I followed the sketch for the placement of my photo, and I used some ephemera pieces, cut aparts, and stamps to frame the photo.

For the title, I chose to use the amazing woodgrain alphas included in the kit.  I think they are my favorite part of this month's kit!  I trimmed the scalloped ephemera piece in half and layered it below the title, creating two rows of scallops.  I love this little detail!  To finish off this area, I added some machine stitching over the woodgrain alphas and to the top of the scallops.

I trimmed an ephemera piece with a notebook paper edge and placed it at the top of the page.  Using my typewriter, I added the journaling to a piece of white cardstock and trimmed it into a tag shape- following the sketch.  Next, I added a puffy cardstock sticker, cut apart element, and an enamel shape.  To finish off the layout, I added a bit more machine stitching.

Thank you for joining me today!  I hope you will play along with this week's Sunday Sketch Challenge and share your project with us on the CTK Facebook Fan Page!

Scrapbook Layout with Laura Rahel

Hey friends, Laura Rahel Crosby here today. I'm sharing a 12x12 traditional scrapbook page I made using the July Citrus Twist Kits. The cool pink tones in the kit were perfect for a set of photos I had of my sister, my baby niece, and myself, where we were all wearing blue and pink. You can follow me on youtube to see how I created this page and other projects I make using my Citrus Twist Kits.

I was aiming for lots of texture on this page, which I achieved by using texture paste through a floral modeling stencil, by chain stitching that gorgeous cut file I used for my title, and by adding lots of layers behind each photo. I used four different patterned papers from the kit to back my cut file and I love how it turned out. I created a subtitle using the wood grain alphabets and then finished off the page with a little journaling in two different spots. I love how much texture the final page has.

I hope you've enjoyed this look at how I'm using my CTK this month. Happy crafting!
xoxo, Laura

Meet our July Designer - LISA VARSHINE

We are so excited to have the talented Lisa Varshine as our guest designer this month.  We are huge fans of Lisa's creative projects using our kits -she is a new subscriber, but we have been following Lisa for some time, and we are sure she is going to amaze you all with her creations.

...........................................................................

GET TO KNOW LISA

Hi everyone! My name is Lisa Varshine (some of you may have seen my work as Freckle Pickle). I’m thrilled to be this month’s Guest Designer. Thank you for having me! I’m a wife and mom of two (Ava, 6 and Ben, 2), living in Atlanta, Ga. Right now, I’m a freelance writer and a passionate (ok, obsessive) memory keeper. I finished my first spread in October of 2016, and I have no idea how I’ve survived without this craft for so long. While I’ve just recently started memory keeping, it’s become an all-consuming passion for me. I’m primarily a pocket-page scrapbooker. I love documenting our lives in weekly spreads, as well as mini albums, traveler’s notebooks, and the very rare 12x12 traditional spread. While the sizes of my projects are varied, my style remains the same: clean, yet bold, graphic, and colorful. I’m in the middle of my second year on Ali Edward’s creative team, as well as my third term for Studio Calico (on both their Travelers Notebook and Documenter teams). I’m also very lucky to be designing for Color Cast Designs. I’m so happy to be here and honored to share a few of my projects with you all.

Q&A with LISA

When did you start scrapbooking?

I completed my first spread in October of 2016. My son was born in August of 2016 after a three-year battle with secondary infertility. At that point, we were coming out of a dark period and I was so filled with gratitude and joy that I wanted to document as much as I could of my little family of four. Not everyone in our situation gets a happy ending. Beyond that, memory keeping has really helped me find my voice as a storyteller and be mindful of my attitude and perspective throughout the ups and downs of everyday life. When I started memory keeping I had thousands upon thousands of pictures living on my phone, and I’m so thankful to have these memories present in a more tangible form.

What is something most people would not know about you?

I am such a candid person (for better or for worse), I feel like I’m an open book. But, I would say anyone who follows me on instagram might be surprised to know I’m a political junkie. I went to school in Washington D.C. and graduated with a political science degree. I lived there for ten years and worked on Capitol Hill as a Senate staffer, and in nonprofits after that. A lot of my freelance work deals with policy and politics. On top of that, I’m constantly listening to political podcasts and checking my news feed. It’s a particularly contentious political environment right now and memory keeping provides a little bit of a reprieve from the acrimony, a safe space. The scrapbooking community is just an absolute gift! I’ve made so many friends and spoken with so many amazing women. This craft has been such a blessing for me.

What are the 3 scrapbooking products you can’t live without?

If computers and printers were considered scrapbooking products, that would be my easy answer. I print at home on my Cannon printer and use Photoshop frequently. But, honestly, I would choose the basics that I always run out of: my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher (staples), black Stayz-on ink, and then inkjet vellum. I’m using those three things over, and over, and over again!

What do you love about the July Life Crafted Kit?

Ah! How do I even narrow that down? I just can’t possibly pick a favorite, so maybe I’ll just share a few highlights. Chipboard is probably the embellishment that I reach for the most and this month’s chipboard designs are so great. The patterned papers are ridiculously cute, so complimentary without being too matchy. My favorite is the gorgeous neon pink star pattern! I had to wrestle that one back from my six-year-old. But, I think the stamp might be the winner for me. The sentiments are perfect, the fonts are right up my alley, and the smaller size will be perfect adding to photos. It’s one that I know I’ll use again and again.

If you could see my scrapbooking space now….

Hah! You might be horrified. I’m lucky enough to have a home office that I use for work and crafting. But, we are currently going through a couple renovations in our house and we’re “storing” a lot of extra stuff in my space. I can’t find anything! Normally, I love it. As soon as we moved in, I painted an entire huge wall, floor to ceiling, with magnetic chalkboard paint. That wall dominates the room and is home to so many pictures from my kids, chalk drawings, ABC magnets. You name it. It’s also the only room in the house where there was no compromise…my husband absolutely never enters that space. It’s 100% my taste. I can’t wait till our projects are finished and I get it back in there.

Here is a peek at Lisa's Creative Space

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been using my gorgeous Goldenrod Life Crafted album as a summer mini album. For my second project with this months’ kit, I wanted to put together a spread talking about what our afternoons look like. We have been spending our time outside with friends, popsicles, sidewalk chalk, and a rainbow sprinkler inflatable (thank you Amazon!)

I used a full page photo of the kids on the right side of this spread. I wanted to add more detail and interest to the photo and decided to punch concentric circles in a few of the wonderful patterns from the kits. I staggered them to showcase each pattern, then topped the stack off with a circle chipboard piece. I finished this little cluster with the “summer is here” stamp from the Life Crafted set.

On the left, I added a two-3x4 page protector. How lucky was I to find the PERFECT journaling card: the rainbow. I actually used the digital version of the card so I could include typed journaling. I love to add black whenever I can to all of my spreads. I guess I feel like it balances out the bright colors I tend to gravitate towards. The half-circle “hello” chipboard was perfect, and total bonus that I was able to repeat the arch shape.

For the bottom 3x4 card, I used a scrap piece of transparency (old page protectors also do the trick). The spread before this one includes a great full-page shot of Ava and a friend in the pool. I thought by using the transparency, I could let some of that great turquoise peek through. I used the a sticker from the add-on kit (I will be using ALL of these) and then used a large date stamp with Stayz-on ink.

Finally, I used the stamp set for this cute tab. “Wonderstruck” was in a such a cute font, and perfectly sized for the tab insert. Quick and easy…just how I like it!
