Pocket Life Sketch Friday

Hi everyone! It is Pocket Life Friday. New starting today is a weekly giveaway associated with completing a PL page using the sketches we provide. (See details below.)

We just wrapped up one week, 7 full days, of celebrating (inter)National Scrapbook Day over on the Citrus Twist Kits Fan Page at Facebook. Yesterday's challenge inspired me to create these two pages for my Pocket Life. The challenge was to use these elements:

  • the color gold
  • wood chips
  • create a PL card using stamping

I worked with the May Pocket Life and Main kits, available here, combining some favorites from both kits. The 6 x 6 Crate Paper Journey paper from the PL kit brought back favorite memories of time spent at my parents' place in Montana and my daughter--just this past week--had written a poem for her language arts class called Where I'm From. In it, she mentioned time spent at her grandparents.

Here is the result:

Here are your sketches for the week:

And here are 3 close-ups:

This close-up is the PL card I made using stamping. I pulled from an assortment of Citrus Twist Kits stamps and stamped around the letter M (that was fussy-cut from a piece of Journey paper):

Thanks for visiting Pocket Life Friday, where every week we share PL sketches and a chance to win a piece of weekly fun mail. For your chance to win, create a layout based on the sketches in this blog post, post your layout to our Gallery or our Facebook Fan Page by Friday, May 15th. Be sure to include PL 5/8 in your title!

Using die-cuts!

Hi all!

It's Emma here to share a few recent projects I've made using the gorgeous Crate Paper/Maggie Holmes Confetti Flower die-cut set which I picked up from the store.  I've always loved the flower ephemera packs in Maggie's lines and now with this die-cut set, I can make my own!

The colour combinations you make are only limited by the papers you have, and fortunately for me, I have a lot ;)

My first project was a a simple layout with a photo from my niece's 5th birthday party. I picked 6 or so favourite papers and cut one full set of each then just paired colours I liked together.

Then it was just a matter of teaming the bright flowers up with a b&w photo and some neutral papers at the top to create this:

The next project I've made is actually for one of my work collegues; he and his wife are expecting their first baby (a girl!!) and his wife is a big fan of hand made gifts as opposed to brought gifts (and she knows I'm a crafty type because her hubby always gets me to make his cards....ha!) so I offered to make a few things for the nursery.  One being a handmade mobile (still in progress, ahh, she's due next week, I really need to finish!) and the other being a set of wall prints! My plan is for 3 frames, one with a monogram of baby girls name and he other two with cute phrases.  Because I love this die-set, the idea was to have a background of flowers with the letter "P" on top.

First up I cut a bunch of flowers in heaps of different colours...I think I ended up with 13...

Once you've got all your flowers it's just a matter of putting them together in combinations you like (this is my favourite part!) and sticking them onto your background paper:

I used my cameo to cut the letter "P" from white cardstock and put them on top. I was originally only having one P but after I'd put it on top of the flower background I felt it needed some dimension so I cut another the same size, layered it on top with foam dots in between.

Once that was done I just added it to the frame and ended up with this:

I think once I group it with the other 2 frames it's going to look kinda cute :)

Now I just need to find some time to finish the mobile and other frames before baby pops... *crossing fingers she's not early*.

May Kit Love

It's time for another edition of "Kit Love" and this month I'll be featuring the "Life is…." Main Scrapbooking kit.

It's filled with amazing goodies from this year's CHA and who doesn't love THAT! My favourite items for the kit are the teal alpha's from Allison Kreft, the Shimelle enamel dots and the Crate Paper Journey ephemera card stock die cuts.

The papers are equally fantastic; colourful and bold with a touch of gold.

I've always been a fan of any typewriter font and this month's SB stamp is perfect for that mini book or vacation layout you've been wanting to do.

Hoping you fall in love with yours as much as I have with mine...

This month's kits have a subtle tribal vibe running through them courtesy of some geometric patterns in zig zag triangles, diamond ripples and tie dye effects. I decide to incorporate a couple of them into my layout, pairing them with quotations from the vellum cut-apart sheet found in the Pattern Play 2 Kit. I also had a large amount of journaling to fit into a small space. The trick I employ is to print my journaling in a small but legible font then transfer the text onto the page using a blender pen. Here's a quick tutorial on this technique.

a2

First you do a mirror image flip of your text. Then print it on normal computer paper using a laser printer. If you don't have a laser printer, a photocopy from your local copy shop will work too.

a4

Next place your text face down on the surface you wish to transfer onto. Saturate the back of the text with solvent from a blender pen. Once you see the text appear burnish over the text with a craft stick. The solvent releases the toner powder and allows the text to be transferred.

I use a Chartpak marker which give a pretty good transfer, slightly lighter than the original image but with nice sharpness.

3 To Inspire With Sandy

3-To-Inspire
Happy National Scrapbooking Week everyone! Sandy with my first "3 to Inspire" challenge. You can find this challenge here every Saturday for those who need a little extra creative push to get scrapbooking, to keep scrapbooking or for those who just like a challenge! Your take on this challenge can be a layout or a PL spread and remember that you'll want to include all 3 prompts on your project.

Your prompts this week are:
  1. Use numbers
  2. Use arrows
  3. Use the colour gold

d1

With my layout I took inspiration from the "3" in the challenge title creating a page with: three horizontal pattern paper bands above my photo, three dominant colours and even the numbers 1-2-3. Based on a simple colour blocking technique, it came together quickly once I printed out the bands and journaling on white cardstock. Initially it was going to be a 6"x8" page but I kept adding  embellishments to the top. So I ended up matting the design on another piece of 8.5"x11" cardstock with a gold striped tab off to the side to complete the visual triangle.

Now it's your turn! Use the three prompts to create your own projects and share them with us here in the gallery and/or in our Facebook Forum. You can also upload to Instagram and tag us @citrustwistkits. Look forward to seeing your takes on this challenge.

Pocket Life with Pamela

Good morning everyone! It's Pamela here with a first look at the May 2015 Pocket Life main kit and the embellishment kit. I must say that this month's kit is my favourite so far. I love those exclusive puffy stickers from Citrus Twist and Pink Fresh Studio in the PL main, those gorgeous pattern paper that's perfect for the minimalist scrapper and those fun black alphas in the embellishment kit.
Let's take a look at my first spread for Week 15 to 16.

2015-week15-1

I really love those simple grid journaling cards in the PL main and they're just perfect for when I have lots to document.

2015-week15-3

Here, you get to take a look at the exclusive puffy stickers. I can't believe how well those ones went with the new Nespresso machine we got at work!

2015-week15-4

Here's the right side of the spread where I used alot of those black alphas for the titles.

2015-week15-2

I just love this funky black font from Simple Stories and I just keep using it over and over again! And you also get another close peak at another puffy sticker included in the main kit. The little heart is just so cute!

2015-week15-5

And here are your PL sketches for the week!
