There Is No One Like You, Traveler's Notebook with Wendy

Hello all and Happy Wednesday!

Wendy here to share up a quick tutorial of my latest page in my Traveler's Notebook.  As a long time fan of all things mini style in scrapbooking, I'm discovering these type of layouts are simply fun to create.

I'm still crushing hard on the July 2017 kits and created up my project here with lots of fun bits found in last month's kits. However, you can create this same type of project with any of the amazing kits from Citrus Twist Kits.

Let's get started.

1. Select your photo.  I dusted off one of my large circle punches to cut out my photo of choice.  I wanted to change it up a bit from the typical square/rectangular photo.  So, a circle it is.

2. Select the type of embellishments you want to use.  These fun butterflies were in the July kits along with some whimsical florals which ended up being my choice to use.

3. You may choose to add dimensional pop dots on the back of your embellishments if you want.  However, since I am working in a Traveler's Notebook, I'm wanting a bit less bulk to my pages.  I probably would have used the pop dots for dimension if this was a regular 12x12 or 9x12 layout in my album.

4. Layer up your embellishments.  Less is more (sometimes) but the more the merrier in this case. Ha!  I added a touch of a wood veneer embellishment for a bit of wording.  In my final project, I chose to use the word "love" instead of "happy".

5. Don't forget the versatile stamps in the kits! Ah yes, my favorite part of the kits.  Don't fear to play around with different phrases, mix and + match wording, and just have fun with them.

6.  In my title work, I chose to use a curved banner for part of the title wording.  Then, I used one of the CTK stamps where I curved it a bit on an acrylic block before stamping to mirror the curved banner.  I love the slight effect and how it turned out.

Hi everyone, I'm sharing one of my July pages with you today, created with the #rightnow main and sprinkles kits. I've gone for a grungy feel on the background, which I've built up with layers of distress stains, ink, watercolour paint, graphite scribbles and stamping.  I've chosen papers from the main kit which replicated the muted colours in the photo

I've trimmed the 'this is it' cork arrow to a different style arrow and inked the edges. The die-cut pack in the Sprinkles kit is perfect for a travel themed layout

Pocket Life Challenge Friday with Mira

Welcome Citrus Twist Kits Fans! It's Pocket Life Challenge Friday and I have a prompt to get You creating! Are You ready?

Okay, so the most important thing today is: I challenge You to create TWO pages (one full spread of PL album) that are all about SINGLE MOMENT. A couple of minutes that could last forever - let's celebrate them! SMALL MOMENT that You documented with plenty pictures - do You have something in Your ind already? So let's do it!

I have two pages from our honey moon that we spent in Italy. One evening we went for a gorgeous walk with scenic views, sunset and picnic... Just magical! We were planning our future and I remember that moment very well and have tons of pictures from there.

Here You go - two pages made with July PL, Sprinkles and Embellishment Kits:

Sunday Sketch with Emma

Hi friends!  Emma here with this week's Sunday Sketch.  Today's sketch is super fun and features one of my favourite (and possibly one of the easiest) shapes to incorporate onto a layout - hearts!  Hearts are everywhere and I love them!  Here's our super sketch for today:

I used the Add-on kit mostly for my page but I added a few pieces from the other kits too (that heart paperclip from the Pocket Life kit is a perfect match for this sketch!).  Here's my layout:

As you can see, I've pretty much kept true to the sketch but moved a few elements around and added a couple extra pieces (corner piece on the top RHS and journaling at the bottom LHS).

I used my trusty scissors to cut heart shapes, they're easy enough to do and I cut extra's from a few patterns so I could layer and stitch them together, to add a little more dimension ;).  The Summer Lights papers in the Add-on kits are so gorgeous, love the bright, fun colours.

My journaling is printed onto one of the Pocket Life 3x4 cards.  To make sure the journaling lined up I took a photo of the card with my phone, dropped the image into Photoshop and typed my journaling on the lines (on a new layer) then ran the card through my printer (without the image of the card) and boom!  Done ;)

I love word/phrase stickers, they're such a perfect way to add extra sentiments to your layouts (same could be said for stamps, but stickers are even easier...for me!).  I've used the Beautiful Day Tiny Word Stickers which are included in the Add-on kit.

To add a bit more contrast (the yellow) I used some of the sequins from the Grace Box and one of the chipboard pieces out of the Pocket Life (half tucked underneath my photo so only the yellow shows).

I really love how this one came together, using the sketch meant it was a relatively quick and easy one for me to do create! (Although everything I create is ever really "quick", but if I can finish a layout in under an hour I consider that a huge win, hah!  This came close to that thanks to the sketch!)

Adventure Awaits | Elsie Robinson

Hey everyone, it's Elsie here! I hope you're all having fun playing with your July kits. Despite how awesome this month's kits are, I've been in a (really annoying) creative rut recently. So today, I want to give you a couple of tips on how to create when your mojo isn't there!

Be inspired by your kits! This might seem like a fairly obvious point, but by taking just one image, a colour or a phrase and basing your entire layout on that can really help simplify and streamline your process.

So thats exactly what I did! I was inspired by the travel themed Carta Bella ephemera pack in the Sprinkles kit. The pack has some really cute images like the cars in the photo above and some road signs.

And so I thought I would take those road sign images quite literally and create a signpost. And everything fell into place after I made that decision. I suddenly noticed that there were quite a few arrow-shaped embellishments which were obviously perfect to pop onto my signpost.

Some of the stickers I used on the signpost brought in some mustard yellow and pinks, which inspired the paper I would used to back my cut file title. Which brings me on to my next point... 

... Use your favourite things! Again, this might be another fairly obvious point, but the temptation to hoard that beautiful "Artisan" paper from Cocoa Vanilla was really quite strong! But I'm so glad I used it as I just love the way it looks behind my title. 

The warm colours in the ombre pattern look similar to a sunset which kind of helps set my "scene", and the light grey colour strikes the perfect balance between able to stand out against the white without competing with the other embellishments on my page.

Another favourite thing of mine is this stringed star cut file. I hadn't yet used it on a page but thought it would work perfectly here as it just adds a whimsical finishing touch along with the Fancy Pants puffy stars.

Sunday Sketch Challenge

Happy Sunday! Michelle here with you today to share this week's sketch challenge! Just to recap, each Sunday Citrus Twist hosts a scrappy sketch challenge designed to give you a jumpstart on a new layout. You can create with any products you have and if you choose to, you can upload your layout to the CTK Gallery to earn a chance to win a $5 gift certificate to the CTK Store! Sounds pretty fun to me!

Here is today's sketch:

This particular sketch was right up my alley! It calls for lots of layers and little bit of stitching--both of which are two of my favorite techniques. Here is what I did using the July "Mermaid" Add On Kit:

Creating with sketches should always be a "comfortable" experience. What I mean by this, is that you have to remember that a sketch is just that-a sketch. A sketch is a basic blueprint, something that sends you off in a general direction. A sketch is flexible and you can make that sketch work for you. For a long time, I felt compelled to follow a sketch 100% and sometimes this worked, but other times I would struggle with making my products/photos/ideas fit the sketch when I should have been making the sketch fit me.

Take for example today's sketch, even though I loved every bit of it I struggled a bit with the large patterned paper that fits the length of the page. Since I was working with the July Add On Kit, I had to take into consideration the patterned paper that was available. This particular kit comes with a 12x6 piece of specialtypaper (which is beautiful!) and a stack of 6x6 papers. I started out by cutting that larger piece of paper down and layering into under the other patterned papers, but I did not like how it made my color scheme more orange. I wanted a mostly pink and yellow color scheme and I was only okay with using a minimal amount of orange. My solution--forget the long strip of paper on the side and use the smaller patterned paper.

By treating a sketch as a flexible set of guidelines you can keep your creative time stress free and fun!

I Need a Moment, Traveler's Notebook with Wendy

Happy Wednesday friends!

Wendy here to share up some Traveler's Notebook (TN) love for you today!

Since I've started using a TN (TNs as abbreviated and termed by many using these oblong and mini books of delight), I'm enjoying the process for the quick capture of memories.  These little snippets of life bring me joy!

Probably unknown to many around here, I used to make a LOT of mini books, a LOT!  Dating myself  around the scrapbooking world but you might remember the paper magazine, Scrapbook Trends?  Well, I used to have a lot of my mini books published in their special mini album edition as well as the monthly/bi-monthly issues.  Scrapbooking in a mini size just brings that sweet feeling of looking at a "smaller canvas" with less stress than to fill a 12x12.  Also, the TN option is a great idea if you are limited on time to scrapbook.  In a TN, you can feel a big accomplishment in capturing a less involved  ("less is more") version of documenting memories to paper.  Oh, and the key word and purpose "traveler's" notebook. Hence, on-the-go memory keeping with a few supplies.  YAS!!

I chose to use elements from the new July kits along with the June 2017 monthly stamp, "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly".  This set is still available over in the CTK shop. So, get it while it last!

I believe we can all agree that not everyday is rosy and fields of daffodils, right?!

July 2017 Pocket Life and Sprinkles Kit with Jen

Hey everyone! It's Jen and today I'm here to share a layout with you using the July Pocket Life + Sprinkles Kit.

I started with a few photos from June, and decided to do a 9x12 layout with squares for this one.

The "real life" die cut is from the Sprinkles kit; it's a Fancy Pants die cut pack and it has such wonderful goodies in it! I also took the heart clip and stapled it to one of the cards.

There are also some awesome die cuts in the main PL kit, this butterfly is one of those. Just lovely!

Tuesday Tutorial With Leigh

Welcome to the Tuesday Tutorial! Leigh here with a layout and process video

using the Mermaid Add-on Kit for July 2017.

I went retro with the metal rimmed tags, and pretty papers from the Add-on Kit. This layout is based on the Sunday November 22, 2015 Citrus Twist Kit Sketch here .

 Punch circles to use with or without the metal rimmed tags, and add color coordinated embellishments on top of a few of them.

Pick a patterned paper for the top and bottom of your page. TIP: you can use the six by six paper on a bigger layout. Just trim two pieces to the same width and fold over one of them to look like a pleat.

Close up of the shaker circle tag I created with the seashell print from the six by six paper in the kit, and thin strips of foam tape, some glitter, and punched star shapes.

Add the word stickers from the kit and a date, and the fun chipboard sunglasses from the kit too!
