Guessing Game #6 Tuesday Tutorial: Travel

Hi there, it´s Nina here today sharing a travel layout tutorial with you. This month Citrus Twist Kit includes lots of great travel stuff I love. This was the perfect timing to use a Silhouette Cameo map cut file together with the October Afternoon "Travel Girl" papers and shape stickers.  

For the base of my page I choose white cardstock. I placed the "map" cut file on my Silhouette Cameo  software in the lower third of the page because I want to cover this area later with the patterned paper. That´s a great way to save some paper. 

I cut the October Afternoon "Journal" patterned paper to 12"x5,25" to cover with it the completely map cut. In the next step I transfer the map cut file on the patterned paper and glue them down directly, so nothing from these fuzzy pieces can slip away.

 I lay the paper on the withe cardstock and sew a seam with a distance from 1/4" on the bottom and top of the patterned paper.
 

To give these map cut a more interesting touch I add some plane stickers from the Travel Girl Shape Sticker Sheet. The "Travel Log" banner is cutting by hand also from this OA Journal patterned paper.

This month two stamp sets are perfect to add some little travel notes onto your projects. I used some phrases to stamp these directly onto the different countries.

To give the page a poppy color accent I used the orange American Crafts thickers from the August Kit Add-On. The title is inspired by the Citrus Twist stamp set. At the beginning I wasn´t sure about the title arrangement. Therefore I add the sticker on different rulers to change the position until I found the right spot for it.

I decided to add the title in one row on the top of the patterned paper but first I add a strip of washi tape at the top of the patterned paper. I love the transparent look of the tape because you´ll see only the print on it.

The easiest way to add a title straight on your page is, to use the ruler. Place the thickers on it. Lay down the ruler on the right place, push it upwards, stick down the upper half of the thickers with your fingers and remove the ruler. Easy, right?!

Each month when I got my package I´m so in LOVE with the twine and tags on the packages. I keep them into the box and try to use it on my work. This month orange/white twine fits perfect with the orange thickers. Therefore I add a twine loop at the top on my page.

I used the backside of the tag, add some stamping together with one of the cute plane sticker. Then I attached it at the twine and add the wood veneer plus button onto the page.

Guessing Game #5 - Simple Strategies With Sandy

Hi it's Sandy with an August Add-On Kit layout for you about trying out a new recipe using floral ingredients. I use the black, deep navy and earth tone papers from this kit in the background and to complement the colour of the roses in the photo, I made a pink triangular hanger to anchor the other elements of my page.

There is a chalkboard quotes paper in this kit and my simple strategies tip is to use cut-outs of these quotes around your photo. They blend seamlessly against a black background and give the illusion of  graphic-looking, white frames.

Guessing Game #4 Sunday Sketch

Here is my take using the August Main Kit (only).  I thought I'd do a take on the sketch from a recent family wedding. I really enjoyed sewing in circles with both yellow and orange threads, taking my inspiration from Kasia's sketch.

Product Review : Gelatos® & Stamping

Hello all, happy weekend! This is Sam here to share a few of my projects using Gelatos®  Some of you might wonder what is Gelatos®. Gelatos® are compact acid-free pigment sticks glide on creamy smooth for vibrant color and coverage.  All Gelatos® blend easily with or without water.  You could use this unique medium on paper, canvas, or wood!

Here are some of the projects that I have used Gelatos® for the background.

First project is part of my wall art using embroidery hoop. The polka dots background is painted using Gelatos®. Just draw circle on the watercolor paper and blend it with water. 

The second project is a layout using Gelatos® and emboss-resist to create a rainbow background. I stamped and heat embossed the background with white embossing powder, then doodle different shade of colors - yellow, orange, blue, teal, purple and pink on the card stock. Take your time to blend the different colors with water. Note: all the products used here are from July kits excepts those random embellishment (Crate Paper) are RAK from one of my scrapbooking friends.

And here's the third projects using Gelatos® and October Afternoon Travel Girl stamp set. I went for a bookbinding crop a few days ago and made this mini notebook! Believe it or not, I was babywearing my boy for almost 3 hours while I bind one of these mini books. This book is made using August kit and watercolor papers & twines from my own stash. I also made a muslin bag to keep the mini book and memorabilia while I travel. *Please note we are trying to get more of these fun Travel Girl Stamps in to the store.*

I keep the cover fairly flat and simple as I would want to keep them in my bag while I travel.

These are the tools and supplies I used for stamping different medium in this project. 

Note:

• VersaCraft is for stamping on fabric (the muslin bag)
• Staz On (black) for stamping on shrink plastic and Opaque (cotton blue & white) for stamping on transparencies
• VersaMark, embossing powder (white & gold) & heat gun are for heat embossing the image
• VersaColor are used for stamping on the wood veneer
• Stamp set of your choice (I used October Afternoon Travel Girl here)
• Fiskars Stamp Press (great for stamping on transparencies)

These are the embellishments that I have stamped. 

Even with Fiskars Stamp press, I had to attempt a few times to stamp nicely on transparency.

Some of the pages of my mini book: I will fill this up when I go for my Jakarta trip in October.

Paint stripes and dots background using Gelatos®  

Do you know you can make your own mist using Gelatos®? I chopped off a small piece of Gelatos® and added a little water to create a paste. Then I added the paste along with some water in a Mini Mister to create my Gelatos®  mist! 

I used Tim Holtz Distress Stains to create the big paint splatter on the background.

Playing with Pocket Life with Melissa {Guessing Game #2}

Hello, and happy Friday, everyone! Melissa here with a new Pocket Life layout to share with you today! We're also on Day 2 of our sneak peek guessing game, and you have a chance every day between sneak peek and reveal to get your guesses in for this month's kit contents. You'll find some travel themed elements once again in Citrus Twist's August kits, and throughout the month the design team will be showing how to use these products to document "everyday travels." If you don't have vacation photos to scrap, you'll find lots of ideas here for scrapping photos taken a bit closer to home!

While I was putting together this particular spread for my weekly album, I really noticed how much I "go" on any given day. I drive to work every morning, I run several times a week, I take trips to the craft store, and my husband and I go out to eat and run errands together. That's a lot of going, and all of it without leaving our city! I included photos of all of that on this week's layout.

The letter + word stickers in the kit this month were simply perfect for adding finishing touches to a few of my photos!

Here's another idea for using travel themed products to document everyday memories- I used the "road trippin'" tab from the sticker sheet (any guesses as to who makes it and what line it's from?) included in this month's kit to embellish an iPhone screenshot of my running statistics. Running three miles around the roads in my neighborhood might not be a road trip in the traditional sense, but it still works!

I'm going to leave you today with a close-up shot or two of an embellishment I'm especially giddy about in this kit- the tiny wood veneer hearts! These are approximately the size of my pinky nail and were produced by me from one of Trina's designs. Citrus Twist and I are so excited to be able to add wood embellishments to our lineup of exclusives, and we hope that you love them as much as we do!

Hello! My name is Michelle Wedertz. I am a wife to an awesome adventuresome husband and a mother to 3 beautiful and sometimes crazy kiddos-Hayden, Maleia, and Allora. When I am not running my family around or taking care of them I spend my time scrapping, reading, pinning, and watching the Food Network. LOL. Guest Design Q&A

1. How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start? I took my first scrapbook class many moons ago when my twelve year old son was little because I wanted to make a baby book for him. My scrapping became more of a "lifestyle" when I became a SAHM when my daughter was born in 2010. LOL. My brain likes to be occupied and scrapping does that for me.

2. How would you describe your scrapbooking style? This is tough. I tend to jump around a bit depending on what is inspiring me at the moment. But if I had to nail it down, I would say simple design with layers.

3. Which scrapbookers have influenced you most? Jen Jockish--she layers like no other. Janna Werner--does wonderful things with whitespace.

4. What is your favorite thing about kit clubs? I love that I can get a variety of products that all co-ordinate with each other. I have no problem shopping for scrapping supplies, I quite excel at it actually, but I like the mix-and-match appeal of a kit as opposed to myself just buying one collection. It's sort of like have a personal shopper, which makes me feel very cool!
5. If you departed on a long family vacation this summer, what are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items you would bring with you (besides your camera and photos!)? Paper. Paper trimmer. White thread. Mist. Black pen.

6. How would you describe the Citrus Twist August kit and what do you enjoy most about the kit? I would describe Citrus Twist's August kit as a little vintage with a splash of modern! What I enjoyed most about the kit is that for the most part it's neutral in theme and color, but there is a beautiful splash of color that just makes it all pop off the page!
