Tuesday Tutorial with Kelly - Creative Ways to Use PL Cards

Hi friends! Today I am going to share a TN spread that I created using the gorgeous Pocket Life kit. Butterflies are some of my favorite embellishments to use and the ones included in the die cuts and puffy stickers are simply gorgeous. It was an easy decision to create my spread based on these embellishments.

I do not do Project Life, yet I still have a subscription to this kit each month because it is so versatile to use in both my TN spreads and my traditional 12x12 pages. Here is the spread that I created for my Gratitude notebook.

The first step for me in creating this spread is to go through the different cards and pull out ones that had colors that were similar to the butterflies. I found three different cards to use, and then chose the rest of the embellishments for this spread.

By fussy cutting an image from a 3x4 card, I created a die cut with the "This is Us" phrase. I also used another card to back behind my photo with similar colors.

One of the 4x6 cards had a beautiful diagonal stripe and this phrase. I fussy cut the phrase and then trimmed down the diagonal stripe to create a strip of patterned paper across the bottom of my spread. I pulled the doily from my stash and love the added texture that it brings to the spread.

Sunday Sketch with Anna

Hi dear CTK friends! Anna here today to share my layout using this week's Sunday Sketch. Let's have a look at the super inspiring sketch for today:

Is'nt it gorgeous, so versatile, You can turn it around, use it for a TN-spread or transform it to a Lettersize layout. Can't wait to see your take on it!

Well here's the layout i created using the Main Lemon Drop kit, the Embellishment and the Pretty Things Add-On Kit:

I had the most perfect photo from California for the Maggie Holmes Flourish "Ponderosa" paper with lemons :)

This is a very exotic scene for a Swedish girl like me, lol!

Ain't these flair just wonderful, love it, and those puffy stars as well. 

So much to love about these kits for sure.

Next two favorites of mine, the white shiny Thickers word and the epoxy hearts.

To die for!

This cute little lable is from the monthly cut apart sheet. I really really like them, so easy to tuck in under a photo or one of the embellishments like above.

It's such a easy way to start up a layout with a sketch. That's one of my favorite go to's when my mojo is low, grab a nice sketch and have fun!

3 To Inspire with Veera

It's time for this week's 3 To Inspire! It's Veera here today to share you this weeks' prompts and two projects I made with these prompts using March kits.

This week I'm challenging to use

1. Stripes
2. Tags/banners
3. Hearts

This time I wanted to show you two different type of projects with the same prompts: 12x12 layout and traveler's notebook spread.

Both of these projects have the prompt "stripes" as a form of pattern paper. In the layout I used a part of patter paper in the color of white and peach horizontally. The traveler's notebook spread has a piece of pattern paper with from Crate Paper with those beautiful painted stripes.

The element with the "tags/banners" is similar in both projects in form of product used. I used the Pinkfresh Studio leatherette tags from March Embellishment kit. For the layout I placed the tags as banner.

This time "hearts" was a easy prompt as the March "Lemon Drop" scrapbook kit had those beautiful epoxy hearts by Pinkfresh Studio. I just love the soft, glossy and stylish effect these hearts add to any project!

Sunday Sketch with Emma

Hi CTK friends!  Emma on the blog today to share my layout using this week's Sunday Sketch. First up, let's look at the sketch for today:

Such a awesome sketch, right?!  And here's the layout I created:

I really wanted to try and stay true to the sketch this week because I love it so (funny how you can just click with a sketch/layout and be inspired by it!).   Because I used one of the Pocket Life journaling cards I had to alter it a little because of the size (6x8) of my pages but it's not too far off!

I even broke out the modelling paste for this page!  Every now and then I get these bright ideas that I can do "messy" on my pages; it's not true but I like to give it a crack anyway ;)  Not all that adventurous when you use white paste on a white page though is it? Ha! My page obviously started with the paste and I picked pieces from the Pocket Life that fit in with the sketch.

The Pocket Life kit this month is so fun and colourful and I found it a perfect match for my photo.  I used a couple layers behind my photo (scrap piece of the dictionary paper from the Main and of one of the 6x4 cards).  I layered one of the die-cut cards and the 3x4 journaling card ontop of those and machine stitched them in place, then popped the photo on top of those!  I typed a short bit of journaling onto one of the die-cut tags and tucked it (and another piece) underneath my photo.

 For my title I used one of the super fun word paper clips but put the red tag die-cut underneath so it was easier to read (the black got a little lost on the dark colours of my photo) - plus the red tag matches in with the red of the 3x4 card!

To finish off my layout I added a few of the puffy stickers at the top and bottom of my page.  I really love the circle puffy stickers (circlessssss forever <3) but the words didn't fit with what I wanted on my page, so I just cut them in half and used one at the top and one at the bottom to balance things out!

It was such a simple page to put together because I kept with the sketch - I didn't have to (over)think anything.  This sketch was a perfect match for my style/size!

Hi all!

Today I'm here with a fun 3-to-inspire for all you TN (traveler's notebook) lovers out there :-)

I love to use my TN for anything random I just like to document and this time I've chosen to document my most beloved drink: Tea!

I have used the March "Lemon Drop" Pocket Life and Embellishment kits + Main stamp.

Here are the three prompts I've been working with:

* First divide your layout into 2 pages specifically; one for your photo and the other for your journaling
* Combine any 2 patterned papers as a background for your photo page
* Stick to 2 accent colors; for example green and pink, as I did

I always start by looking at my photo to find out which colors are most prominent.

In this case it's a pretty white photo with some accents of soft pink (underneath the flags), green and black, so these were going to be my colors for today.

I then chose my papers from the PL kit and cut them to size to fit the full background of this page.

I absolutely love the leatherette banners/flags from the embellishment kit and made a little cluster of these in the upper right corner of my journaling page. To add more balance I also used two of these in a little cluster onto my photo.

I added my journaling by first typing it onto regular printer paper and then cutting it into small strips which I glued on by using a stickermaker (by Xyron). This way the whole back of your paper will be covered in glue so you can add these strips in a matter of seconds.

As a finishing touch I added some splatters in a metallic bronze color.

Create a shaker pocket with pattern paper

Hi guys, Diane here, to show you how I created a shaker pocket using pattern paper (No sequins? Gasp!) and used it in an insert for my PL album!

I had a spare photo that didn't make it onto my PL spread for the week but I still wanted to include it in my album. So I cut a Design A page protector in half and created a 6x12 insert. After adding my photo, some journalling and creating a title card, I wanted to create a shaker pocket to fill in the missing space.

Instead of adding sequins, I decided to fussy cut some arrows out of a scrap of paper I had left over from the week (and now both pages will tie together nicely in the album!). I'm not going to lie, this did take a little while! But the end result was totally worth it.

I trimmed a piece of the page protector I had cut off down to 3x4 and then an extra sheet of the plastic to just slightly smaller than that. I cut a sentiment out of the cut-apart sheet and glued it onto the single sheet of plastic, then tucked that inside the 3x4 pocket. Behind that single sheet, I added all my arrows and then carefully stitched around the whole thing with my sewing machine to create a shaker card, but you could totally use your Fuse tool or hand-stitch it if you like!

3-to-Inspire with Kathleen

Hey there, it's Kathleen here again and I'm so happy to bring you another 3-to-Inspire blogpost - these are definitely one of my absolute favourites here on the Citrus Twist Kits blog!

I hope you already had some time to play with your March "Lemon Drop" kits and love them as much as me :) The fun, bright colours together with the black and white patterns are my favourite thing in the kit! So it's no surprise that I'm showcasing those on my project for today's blogpost.

For my project I used the Scrapbook Main and the Embellishment kit.

And here are the three prompts:

• Use at least two black and white patterned papers
• Add hidden journaling
• "Frame" your layout

You don't have to use a lot of the black and white patterned papers, just a strip of it peeking out from behind something or using it to mat your photo totally work, too!

For my hidden journaling I used a piece from the Crate Paper "Here + There" ephemera pack, typed my journaling on (my typewriter wasn't cooperating but since I had only one of those pieces so I couldn't redo it and because the text is hidden, I just went with it) and then tucked that piece on the left side behind my white cardstock.

When I adhered the paper strips around my white cardstock, I made sure to leave a space for that card where I didn't add any adhesive.

To add some colourful contrast to the black and white elements on my page, I decided to use some orange/coral red bits and pieces, like the patterned paper strip on the left, the tag from the "Here + There" ephemera pack and some of the Pinkfresh Studio "The Mix No. 2" puffy hearts.

But before that I thought I would try doing a mixed media-ish background using some watercolours, mists and a star stencil with some shimmery texture paste (it's difficult to see in the photos, but you can see it on the right side next to the photo and on the lower left side, too).

Mixed media is still "difficult" for me and I need to try things out and kinda find my groove, which is also why it's rather "light" on this layout, but I am super happy with how it turned out!

Then I added the date and some phrases with roller stamps from my stash and that's it!

"VAYCAY" Scrapbooking your vacation memories with Nathalie

Hello CTK friends and fans!
Nathalie with you today bringing you a project using this month's gorgeous  LEMON DROP scrapbooking and Embellishment Kits.

  When Trina shared with us what will be included in the LEMON DROP  kit, I was so excited to receive it (and probably purchased all the add-ons) since i have a very large number of vacation pictures yet to be documented.  But before, I  continue on, let me show you what i created for this post:

The inspiration for this page was the color contrast between the Scenic View paper (from the Here and There collection from Crate Paper) and the rose gold  tones in the ephemera both included in the main kit.   So i decided to create a rather monochromatic simple look for this page that ensure the picture pops.

The background of this page was created using a bit of acrylic pain (Vicki Boutin) to match the color of the ephemera.   Them to replicate the train rail, a bit of texture paste (Ranger) was used on top of the acrylic paint.   The contrast in texture and color make all the pieces of ephemera and layers pop  behind the picture.

The Lemon Drop kits are  probably one of my favorites, yet!  It was so easy to combine pieces from them to add sentiments and details around the page.  Plus the stamp -included in the kit- is perfect to give a bit more details to the page.   My final touch was creating the little fold to the page, and adding the flair that serves as the title for this page!   Here is a video that showcases how the page came together:

3-to-Inspire Saturday with New Designer Melanie Blackburn

Hello friends! I am so excited and thrilled to be joining the CTK DT!! I hope you will enjoy seeing my projects every month! Today I am bringing to you my very first 3 To Inspire challenge! I can’t wait to see all of your creations! This month I'm working with the Citrus Twist Lemon Drop Pocket Life and Embellishment kits.

Your prompts for this week’s challenge are:

1. Create a grid design
2. One picture
3. Pattern paper as anchor to the picture

I just love how this TN spread came together! I started with the right side of the spread, I always start with the design that surrounds and anchors the picture, once this is done I can move on to the rest of the spread. I loved the black and white pattern paper that was included in my PL kit and thought the “paper girl” diecut from the same kit was just too adorable and had to be used. A good portion of this page is dedicated to pattern paper, therefore I knew that I wanted to keep a lighter design for the opposite page. 

On the left side I decided to create a grid design, mostly with the diecuts but also with the puffy stickers from the same kit and the Crate Paper stickers from the embellishment kit. For me creating a grid design is all about trial and error, I will move things around until I am satisfied with the design. I always keep the heavy embellishments for the middle as well as the journaling. As I work outwards the items become smaller in scale. Once I’m happy with the design I’m ready to finish the journaling and adhere all of the items.
