1. How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start? Since 2011. It all started when I asked my good friend, an avid scrapbooker, how to best make baby announcements for our third child. Well, she took me to Archivers and it was all downhill from there! 2. How would you describe your scrapbooking style? A little of this, a little of that... a decent amount of mess amongst a sea of white.

3. What scrapbookers have influenced you most? May Flaum, Shimelle, Anke Kramer, Celine Navarro

4. What is your favorite thing about kit clubs? A gorgeous pack of matching goodies at my door every month! Plus, I LOVE the community. It is so inspiring to see what each and every person does so differently while working with the same supplies.

5. What are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items? Loew Cornell Watercolor Set - I use watercolors on almost every project. I could not do without these! Maggie Holmes Open Book Clips - these are just the cutest and I have been using them on lots of projects! Perfect Paper Adhesive - Love this stuff! Pitt Pens - the perfect pens for anything and everything White paper - I know, I know... not that exciting, but I love to layer it up and work the tone on tone action!

6. How would you describe the Citrus Twist January main kit and what do you enjoy most about it? Feminine, Soft, Lovely, with just the right amount of Bling! This kit is so very pretty, but also mixed with the perfect amount of contrast! There truly are so many possibilities. My favorite part was all of the metallics, paired with the soft pinks and blues.

While house hunting some decade ago, we were blessed to find a home with it's two car garage converted into an interior space. It is one of the things that sold us on our home. With a little elbow grease and some old orange shag carpeting removed, we now have the perfect family studio space! Most of it is occupied by our four girls, where they have space to craft, sew and paint as their hearts desire and I have claimed the far right corner for all things scrapbooking and pretty paper. It is indeed my happy place!

Hello! My name is Steffi Ried and I live with my little daughter and my husband in the south part of Germany. I´m working in the administration of a energy supplier. But, I would say my big passion is my love for papercraft and photography! All these things have accompanied me all my life.  1.   How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start?
I started scrapbooking in 2012. My daughter was born and I searched a good idea
for a mini album about her.

2.   How would you describe your scrapbooking style?

I can't say that I  have a "special style" so far. But I like bright colors and I love to play with watercolors and mixed media. So I often use white cardstock as background for my layouts. Also I like to create many little lovely details on my layouts and mini albums.

3.   What scrapbookers have influenced you most?

I get my inspirations from so many different scrapbookers and paper crafters, but for projects with mixed media Anna Maria Wolniak is my favorite.

4.  What is your favorite thing about kit clubs?  
I love the mix of patterns and colors. So it makes easier to create layouts, mini albums...
If I had to choose all the papers and embellis for my crafts, it takes so much time! When I see the different items from the kit I get the ideas which photos fits perfectly for the colors - that make so much fun!
 
5.  What are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items?
I`m absolutely in love with...sequins, wood veneers, enamel dots, watercolors, color shine sprays
 
6.  How would you describe the Citrus Twist December Main kit and what do you enjoy most about it?
I think the colors are very warm and harmoniously - perfect for the cold season. It's not a typical christmas kit but you can still create a great layout about this topic...and I felt in love with the enamel dots. Die selection of embellis is huge and flexible to use - it's awesome!

October Guest Designer ~ Christine Newman

My name is Christine Newman and I’m so excited to be the October guest designer at Citrus Twist Kits! I’m really loving the colors in the October scrapbook kit and I can’t wait to show you my projects! A little bit about me. I’m known in the scrapbooking world as “listgirl”. I’ve been scrapbooking since 2008. I love to tell my life stories with photos and pretty papers. I love scrapbooking because looking back on my memories with the people I love make me so happy and thankful! It’s also such a great artistic outlet for me, combining my favorite hobbies of photography, scrapbooking, computers, internet, and writing. I live in Southern California with my husband Todd and our cat Noodle. I work full-time as a financial analyst for a high-tech company. I love to eat, which means I try to workout as often as possible to offset my intake. I also love to read, knit/crochet, make cards, stamp, sew, and get my hands into anything crafty! You can find me sharing my life and crafty projects on my blog and on Instagram.

1. How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start? I have been scrapbooking since 2008. Before that I did create a bunch of scrapbooks to give as gifts for Christmas in 2003, but did not continue after that until 2008. I started to scrapbook regularly in 2008 because I wanted to do something with all the digital photos that I had accumulated. I actually started out scrapbooking digitally and then evolved into paper and hybrid.

2. How would you describe your scrapbooking style? My style is graphic yet colorful, sometimes whimsical. I don't usually fill up the whole page, but I'm not really a whitespace scrapbooker either. I guess I'm sort of in-between. I like using white & kraft backgrounds and let the colorful papers and embellishments pop.

3. What scrapbookers have influenced you most? Jen Chapin, Patricia Roebuck, and Geralyn Sy. I love how they use color and their design aesthetics.

4. What is your favorite thing about kit clubs? This sounds funny but I love that you can be so productive by using only one kit! One of my productivity secrets is limiting my supplies. I don't enjoy spending my crafting time looking for stuff. I'd rather just dig into a kit and start making things! Kits are great for that. Plus, when I go to a crop with friends, I love being able to just pick up a few unused kits in my stash and some tools and go! Really makes packing for crops much easier!

5. What are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items? Well I'm a paper lover so my most favorite scrapbooking item is patterned paper. I can make my own embellishments with paper. Four other items that I almost always use on my layouts are stamps, sequins, enamel dots, and wood veneers. If I could add a sixth item it would be shaped paper clips. With these items I can create lots of different textures on the page.

6. How would you describe the Citrus Twist October kit and what do you enjoy most about it? I would say the Citrus Twist October kit is fallish, but not so much autumn that people in the Southern Hemisphere or somewhere without seasons couldn't use it. There are lots of diecuts and stickers to suit many different styles. I really love the typed words on the stamps. I'm always a fan of typed words on stamps, because they are so versatile!

August Guest Designer Emily Spahn & a Giveaway

 Hi! I’m Emily Spahn. I am a wife, a mother, a music teacher, and of course, a scrapbooker. After a decade of living and teaching in the Chicagoland area, my husband and I moved our family back to our home state of Wisconsin. We live in our “new” 90 year home just outside of Madison, WI. I’m currently taking a short break from teaching to stay home with my three crazy kids Mirielle (5), Henry (3) and Oliver (almost 1), it’s been an enjoyable change. In addition to srcrapbooking and spending time with my family, I enjoy photography (though I seem to find myself using my iPhone much more than my big camera nowadays), reading, music, thrifting (I’m a little addicted to the antiques board on Craigslist), and being outdoors.

1. How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start? I began scrapbooking in 5th grade, which was a very, very long time ago! ;) I saw a girl do a presentation on scrapbooking at a Forensics tournament and decided it was something I might like to try. My first scrapbook was made using white typing paper, Scotch tape, and some very fantastic title and journaling blocks that I drew myself with crayon! A few years later I discovered patterned paper and was changed forever! I have been scrapbooking on and of since then, but 10 years ago after I was out of college and married I started scrapbooking more seriously. About seven years ago I got into the world of online scrapbooking, publishing, and design teams, and I’ve never looked back!

2. How would you describe your scrapbooking style? I think my style is simple, colorful, and fun. I don’t necessarily think that I have a style that is immediately recognizable, but I’m okay with that! I scrap 8.5x11 about 99% of the time. It’s funny – 12x12 is very hard for me…it’s much to big. And cards are also not my favorite…they are much too small! ;)

3. What scrapbookers have influenced you most? My “original” favorites from my scrapbooking origins would definitely have to be Shelley Lamming and Kelli Crowe. I was obsessed with them back when I started scrapbooking more seriously, and they definitely influenced my style. Presently I have too many favorites to mention. My “favorite” scrapbookers definitely rotate!

4. What is your favorite thing about kit clubs? I am NOT a matchy scrapper. I love mixing and matching elements from various manufacturers. I love a good mix of patterns and color. Kit clubs take the work out of it all for me by providing a great selection of product that goes together, but doesn’t all come from the same manufacturer or the same line!

5. What are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items you can't live without? • my Cannon Selphy printer • patterned paper (and lots of it!) • label stickers • die cut file tabs (I know, that’s really specific, but I LOVE them. They are my favorite) • enamel dots

6. How would you describe the Citrus Twist August scrapbook kit? I’m having such a great time creating with the August kit! I love the color scheme and the little bits of black and gold that are thrown into the mix. If I had to describe it I would say it’s like the beach at night. ;) It’s not super bright and summery, but it’s got just enough shimmer and shine to make it calm and magical.

**About my scraproom: As I mentioned, we moved into a new house (well, it’s actually a very OLD house, about 90 years old) right before Thanksgiving. We’ve slowly been working to decorate and update it. One of its best features is the renovated attic, which is where my scrap space is located. Unfortunately this space is at the bottom of the priority list when it comes to fixing up the house, so not much has been done with it! This is a pretty sad iPhone photo that I took when it happened to be clean one day! I can’t wait to finish unpacking everything (yes I still have boxes of scrapbooking stuff to unpack) and getting it all organized!

Meet Our Guest Designer Mary Ann Jenkins

Hello!! I’m Mary Ann Jenkins from sunny Southern California. I have 3 awesome boys, 1 sweet little princess, and a wonderful husband that are the subjects of many of my scrapbook layouts. I love recording the memories and stories we create in our everyday lives. I’ve been scrapping since 1987, and hardly a day goes by without some sort of playing with paper and glue. When I am not in my scrapbook studio making a mess, I enjoy: flea markets, spending time with my family, shopping for hours at Target, taking my camera everywhere I go and bracelets. A girl can never have too many bracelets! I’m excited to be guesting for Citrus Twist, and can’t wait to show you what I have created with their amazing kits!

 

 

1.  How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start?

I’ve been scrapbooking since 1987 after hearing a commercial on the radio for a seminar about “learning to preserve family memories”. I went to the seminar by Shoebox to Showcase (later known as Creative Memories) and it sounded like fun!  A few patterned papers and decorative scissors later I was hooked and never imagined scrapbooking would become a passion or that I would have a room in my home dedicated to the hobby.

 

2.  How would you describe your scrapbooking style?

My style has changed over the years, but I think clean and simple best describes it. Sure, I like to add mist or paint splatters here and there, but for the most part my layouts are clean and simple.

 

3.  What scrapbookers have influenced you most?

Although my layouts looking nothing like theirs, a girl can still dream. My top 5 right now would be: Maggie Holmes, Mel Blackburn, Katie Ehmann, Natalie Elphinstone and Paige Evans.

 

4.  What is your favorite thing about kit clubs?

I love that I can open a kit and start scrapping right away! There’s no wasting time looking for papers and embellishments that mix and match, it’s already been carefully done for you.  All I have                      to do is grab my photos and get to work.

 

5.  If you departed on a week-long trip to Italy, what are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items you would bring with you (besides your camera and photos!)

I would probably be taking lots of photos in Italy, so I would need to have a stack of cardstock and a pair of scissors to get started, then to go along with all the maps and brochures I would be collecting each day I would want a little box full of sequins, wood veneer and flair. Oh, and the adhesive, I would borrow that  from the hotel concierge ;)

 

6.  How would you describe the Citrus Twist June's kit and what do you enjoy most about the kit?

Describing the kit can almost be done in one word: Amazing! From the custom wood chips and rubber stamps, to the sweet little bags of sequins and flair, I love it all!  It almost sounds like a cliché but I really do enjoy that everything is already mixed and matched and ready to go.

Here is a picture of my (Trina's) scrapbooking cabinets. I love these and have had them for many years! I use clear plastic containers for my monthly kits or large projects (available at Michaels). They are great for keeping organized.

Here is a close-up of my (somewhat) messy cupboard interior. (Thank goodness for doors that close!) You'll see a little vintage scattered here in there in my scrapbooking space, including my dad's old woodworking pencil container, below:

I got these shoebox-style containers from Exposures a couple of years ago. They work great for items I use some of the time, but not all the time. These shoeboxes took my scrapbooking space from crazy and cluttered to neat and orderly. They rest on hanging bookshelves above my scrapbooking table.

Welcome Guest Designer Shawna

Hello, there!  I'm Shawna and I have been scrapbooking for about 8 years, give or take.  I took a break after the birth of my daughter, but dove back in head first about a year ago.  I love how this hobby has morphed from simple memory books to such a diverse and expressive art form incorporating so much more than just paper and photos.

 

I live in Central NY with my husband of 10 years, our 4 year old (excuse, me…4 ½ year old.  She would correct me if she could read this…), our 7 year old yellow lab, Beau, and our sketchy little kitty, Lenny.  I work full time in the legal field and when I'm not working or creating scrappy goodness, I love to photograph, read, and do anything that involves getting outside into the fresh air.  I currently design f

or CSI Color Stories Inspiration, Sketchabilities, and Challenge YOUrself. 

1.     How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start?   

I have been scrapbooking for about 8 years, though I took about a 3 1/2 year hiatus when my daughter was born.  I can't remember if it was a gift or if I bought it, but somehow I ended up with one of those pre-packaged scrapbook kits from Michael's way back in 2006 and I was hooked from the get-go.

 

2.    How would you describe your scrapbooking style?  

Hmm...trendy and a little bit eclectic?  I love to try new techniques and some of my favorite blog posts are those that share technique tutorials.  My layouts are all over the board...I try and create my layouts around whatever feel the photos give - sometimes it's a vintage feel, and sometimes it's an abstract artsy feel.  The one thing that almost all of my layouts have in common is some type of mixed media background work - gelatos, modeling paste, gesso, etc., paper layers, and LOTS of bright, bright colors.  Bright colors against a white background make me happy.

 

3.   What scrapbookers have influenced you most? 

I'm a big Sanna Lippert fan.  Her video tutorials are fantastic and I have learned a ton of tricks and techniques from watching them.

 

4.  What is your favorite thing about kit clubs?   

I love that kits take the guess work out of coordinating products for a layout!  Left on my own, it can take me hours to pick what materials I want to use on a page.  I have this long drawn out process of pulling out everything I have in my stash that MIGHT work on my page, and then slowly whittling it down to what I will actually use.  It works, but it's super time consuming.  Nothing beats having that step taken care of for me!

 

5.  If you departed for a week-long trip scrapbooking retreat, what are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items you would be sure to pack (besides your camera and photos!)? 

White cardstock, gelatos, black ink, 3-D pop dots and some sort of twine...that's assuming they are providing the patterned paper.  If I have to bring my own patterned paper I guess I could live without the black ink.  

 

6.  How would you describe the Citrus Twist February kit and what do you enjoy most about it?  

The vibe of February's kit is really fun and playful.  I love that the colors are neither masculine nor feminine, making them super easy to use on any subject you are scrapping.

Meet our Guest Designer Lucia

My name is Lucia, I’m 29 (will turn 30 on 14^th Jan!) and I come from Slovakia. I live with my sister, a bunny Cookie and a cat Pepsi in my lovely hometown under the mountains in the north of my country. I love white chocolate, Agatha Christie’s detective stories, Les Misérables musical, the smell of lilac, home décor and I love to feel warm spring air on my face.

After an awesome experience - nine years of travelling, living and working in different European countries I’ve decided it was time to come back home and start following my dream.

I’ve completed a British e-course about designing pretty patterns last year and then designed some digital scrapbooking papers, journaling tags and clear stamps in Slovak. My dream is to become a surface pattern designer and do what I love – anything scrapbooking related.

I used to live in Rome at the time and one lovely afternoon me and a friend (a Texan!) were sitting in St. Peter's Square, chatting about what we would love to do in life as a dream job. I wanted to make and sell cards (I always loved paper crafting) and have cats. I had really starte dto make cards in the end and while googling "cardmaking" it's obvious that I found "scrapbooking" too. It was like I could finally give a name to something I loved to do since I was a child! (Scrapbooking is not well known in Europe yet, compared to the U.S.) Today scrapbooking takes most of my (not only) free time. And I have a cat and a bunny. :)
2. How would you describe your scrapbooking style? It's clean, loose and simple in mostly white and pastel colors. Layers, white thread and some glitter, sequins or at least paint splatters are a must! I also like use and re-use things like frames or packaging that I use for layering or confetti from punching holes for example.
3. What scrapbookers have influenced you most? In the beginning I was influenced a lot by Rahel Menig. Now it's mostly Stephanie Bryan, Allison Waken, Marcy Penner and Anna-Maria Wolniak. And I love Paige Evans, too. :)
4. What is your favorite thing about kit clubs? It's that little magic - to open the kit and find a variety of all the pretty papers and bits and pieces that go well together. I love the fact that the only thing I have to think about is what I will use them for (and that I don't need to put those things together first :) )
5. If you departed on a week-long trip to CHA Anaheim 2014, what are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items you would bring with you (besides your camera and photos)? Definitely foam alphabet thickets. I LOVE them! Then it would be tissue paper, white acrylic paint, some lovely patterned papers in pastel colors and (I will cheat on the last one) a box full of pretty little rounded embellishments like brads, flairs and sequins.

I'm Jina Jean. I live in Seoul, South Korea with my family. Last June, I turned 37, but I'm still single.   1. How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start? : When I first saw my friend, Katie Kim's wedding scrapbook in 2006, I've been hooked ever since. But I could not well start scrapbooking until 2009 and actually I have taken up scrapbooking seriously since 2011.

2. How would you describe your scrapbooking style? : I mostly enjoy a simple layout with one photo, fancy layers using tons of embellishments and rich textures. Absolutely I'm addicted to bright colors and romantic details.

3. What scrapbookers have influenced you most? : Undoubtedly my scrapbooking muse is Ania-maria Wolniak. As soon as I found her blog about 2 years ago, oh my God, I fell in love with her beautiful art pieces at once. Since I've become a big fan of her. I adore all of extraordinary compositions and color combos she makes. Also lately I added some fabulous scrapbookers to my list. :) - Wilna Furstenberg's arty style, Stephanie Bryan's soft & airy tones, WaiSam Ho's cute layering technics and so on. Oh, There are too many talented people all around the world!

4. What is your favorite thing about kit clubs? : Always I feel I'm in a certain pattern of shopping and designing. Sure, It's pretty familiar and habitual to me. But sometimes It's quite boring, too. And in this way, kit club is an exciting challenge for me. From monthly kit club supplies I easily could get a lot of chances and motivations to try various style and hot trend. It's certain that give an opportunity for me to develop my style and taste in my own scrapbooking business.

5. If you departed on a week-long trip to CHA Anaheim 2014, what are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items you would bring with you (besides your camera and photos!)? : I won't hesitate to put 5 favorite items into my luggage. patterned papers, tissue paper or vellum, some cords(especially white thread or oyster twine), white mist and an ephemera pack(maybe from American Crafts or Crate paper always I love).

6. How would you describe the Citrus Twist December's kit and what do you enjoy most about the kit? : December Kit is full of cozy seasonal mood - for example various tones of brown & silver and cute patterns as tree & hunter trophy. Among them my most favorite items are Citrus Twist's wood chips, Heidi Swapp's silver stickers and Studio Calico's vellum star stickers. These are so useful here and there on my space. I really like to play around with these little things.

My bio: Janna Werner lives in North Germany, together with her husband, the dog Sindri, two rabbits and a few foster fishes. Janna´s love for papercrafts and mixed media art evolved in 2010 when a friend introduced her to scrapbooking. How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start?

- I started papercrafting in 2010 and scrapbooking in 2011. A friend of mine introduced me to scrapbooking and it didn´t take long until I got hooked. I always loved stationary, pens and pretty paper, so this was the perfect hobby for me.

 

How would you describe your scrapbooking style?

- I guess it depends on my mood. I love shabby and filigrane designs in light colors, but sometimes I also enjoy creating a colorful and straight layout. The more I got on my mind, the straighter and cleaner my pages get.

 

What do you like about kit clubs?

- The surprise and excitement of what will be in the next kit. I also find it convenient that someone else thought about what fits together and/or what might look great on a page or any other papercrafting project. Usually there items in a kit that I would not have grabbed myself, but in the end I adore them. Great for stepping out of my comfort zone from time to time.

What are 2 blogs you get inspiration from?

- Tara Anderson, The Pink Couch and Stephanie Dagan´s blog are two fantastic blogs, but there are tons of blogs that I enjoy, it always feels unfair to me to name only a couple, because I get inspired by so many people.

 

If you were stuck in Paris, what are 5 scrapbooking supplies you would want to have with you (besides your camera and photos)?

- Paris?! No way I would scrapbook then ;) I´d rather eat Crepes and climb the Eiffel Tower, visit The Louvre and improve my French. Well ok, just in case I get stuck for a veeery long time.. I´d love to have my sewing machine with me (handy, right?!), white cardstock, a black pen, scissors and glue. Embellishments are everywhere, so I think I would be ok with those 5 things :-D

 

What was your favorite thing about the November Kit? Why?

- The variety of supplies - there are light, but also colorful items in the kit. Furthermore there are tons of embellishments in it (although I wouldn´t need them in Paris, I am a sucker for embellishments ;-D ).
