A View from Our Gallery: Sinead Healy

We are back today with our View from Our Gallery post. Did you know that Citrus Twist Kits is running a Gallery upload contest from August 26th to September 30th? We want to see your creations and especially how you use the Citrus Twist kits. For each layout you upload to our Gallery during this time frame, you'll earn one entry into a drawing for 1 embellishment grab bag valued at $100.

We have built a challenge based on Sinead's PL pages for those of you who love challenges. We love how Sinead used lots of color on her pages and especially love how she used washi tape as a design element. Our challenge to you this week is to pull out your washi tape and use it in a prominent way on a project.

These pages were created using the January "Magic Days" PL Kit. I loved the Print Shop 6 x 6 paper pad which was included in this kit.

The design was inspired by the gold doilies in the kit. I like the combination of the vibrant colours with a pop of gold. I also like to include the beautiful twine that is tied around the kits in my pages. I adore the designs of the exclusive Citrus twist 3 x 4 cards, so if I can't use them all I cut them up and use them as an extra embellishment.

Thank you Sinead for sharing your beautiful, colorful pages in the Citrus Twist Gallery!

{simple strategies with jen chapin}

Hi there! Jen here and today I'm sharing a layout with you using January's main scrapbook kit as well as the embellishment add-on.

My simple strategy for today is to use a whole sheet of alphas. For this page, I decided to use the alpha stickers from the add-on and cover them with a sheet of vellum on my backgound.

The result is a unique look that will make your page stand out! Hope you've been inspired today. Thanks for stopping by!

Sunday Sketch with our Guest Designer

Guest

My sketch layout is about Jimmy, a fun-loving, crazy yet thankful dog that seems to be smiling all the time. He had a very tough life until my brother adopted him from a local shelter. He is a sweetheart who loves to eat, run, have fun and lick people's faces!

The sketch is awesome! I was happy to see all that white/empty space. I love creating layouts just like that! I have also enjoyed the circle in the backround that I've created using a white acrylic paint (and then added some splatters, too). Another "not from the kit" item is white alpha thickers JOURNAL by Amy Tangerine that I've used for the title.

The "&" sign, "smile" sticker, little hearts and stars and orange self-adhesive stones come from the january embellishment kit.

I went for grey/white/orange color pallete as I like to work with just some colors on a page or project - and with awesome sketches like this one! :)

To play along with the Sunday Sketch Challenge, upload your layout(s) to the gallery by January 18th to be entered in a drawing to win a $5 Citrus Twist gift certificate to our store or add-on kits. When uploading to the gallery, please include "Sketch 1/12" along with your layout title.

Tuesday Tutorial with Sandy

With Valentine's day coming up, I thought it'll be fun to share a gift-wrapping project. My gift box is covered with some coral mesh (from my stash), a Printshop script paper and topped off with cute Basic Grey pom-poms threaded onto baker's twine that Trina wraps the Main Kit with. That takes care of the hot pink, but I need some hearts to complete the lovey, dovey look.

a1

So I combine these Flea Market and Close Knit patterns, using a homemade washi tape technique, to create a customized design of superimposed hearts that sits in the centre of my wrap. If you are keen to make your own washi tape, all you need is some clear packing tape.

a4

Homemade Washi Tape :
  • adhere packing tape over the desired pattern
  • turn over and thoroughly soak the B-side paper with water
  • rub off the B-side paper to reveal the desired pattern

a1

This technique transfers ink from coloured parts of the design onto the packing tape while the white areas, which is just the base paper, is rubbed off and becomes transparent. So it is most effective if you select designs with some parts of the design in white or cream. Hope you have fun making your own washi tape and creating some fun gift wraps.

Simple Strategies With Sandy

Hi everyone ! I'm thrilled to be back and working with the first kits of 2014. One of my favourite things this month is the Studio Calico Printshop 6x6 paper pad from the Project Life Kit. The smaller scale patterns are perfect for what I call my messy-desk style layout.

New York

This type of design basically seeks to replicate the look of a craft table with scraps of pattern paper strewn all over. I simply take a large sheet of brown paper, cut a 8.5x11 rectangle out of the middle and move pieces of 6x6 papers around, under the cut-out until I settle on a pleasing arrangement.

c3

Then I glue everything down and trim off any excess that falls outside the cut-out. Add the title, a photo or two, some journaling and finish off with a fun embellishment like this Citrus Twist exclusive - a handmade butterfly garland.

d3

The many graphic black and white patterns in this paper pad, in particular that bold graffiti scrawl, suggested to me the excitement and energy of New York. So I paired them with some neutralising kraft papers and scrapped this page about visiting Liberty Island. I've used some store items on my page such as The Pier slide frame and labels from Basic Grey's Capture Snippets Journal, as well as some items from older kits such as the Star & Bee chipboard arrows and Prima alphabets.

a3

Hope you enjoy playing with your January kits as much as I do. And don't forget to check out the store as Trina has added lots of exciting new items. You have to be quick though, as they tend to sell out fast !

It's January Reveal Day at Citrus Twist Kits!

A New Year, a fresh start and lots of bright color coming your way this month from Citrus Twist Kits. This month's kits will be like a small burst of sun in your kit box this month. To ring in the New Year we are offering a refer a friend subscriber special. When you refer a friend who subscribes by January 15th to either the Main or Pocket Life kit, both you and your friend will get 3 exclusive Citrus Twist Kits stamps from past kits. (These stamps are not for sale individually!) Make sure the friend you refer mentions you in the comments section at checkout.

Our new Kits page is easier to navigate now. You can check out our kits here at Citrus Twist Kits Subscriptions.

We'll start with January's Main scrapbook kit, "You are My Sunshine." You can see lots of color in this kit with many neutral paper options. With this kit you can go big and bold or neutral with small pops of color.

Next is our January Pocket Life kit "Magic Days." It's delightful to see the Design Team sneaks rolling in for this colorful kit:

"Love Always" our kit add-on for the month will transition you right into February. The new chip board shapes from October Afternoon are too cute!

Next we have our "Epic Fun" Embellishment kit. If you've been subscribing to our kits for a while, you know that our Embellishment and Pocket Life Embellishment kits always coordinate with our Main and PL kits. We keep these at an affordable price for those of you (like me) who can't get enough embellishments to grace your pages:

"Rainbow Sherbet" will bring back those lazy summer day memories of ice cream on the boardwalk. The low-profile foam alphabet works perfect for Pocket Life. Small chalkboard stickers will be a fun addition for your PL projects this month:

This month's "Shine On" Pattern Paper kit is a great mix of paper to make your kits go even further. From geometric to floral, you'll love the blue, orange, yellow and pink in this kit:

Our Solid Paper kit allows you to double up on solids for your Main kit and always matches your Pocket Life kit, too. The title banner might read "pattern paper" but this kit has one each of 4 solids, as shown below:

And last comes the newest subscription addition to Citrus Twist Kits: Our 6-month stamp subscription. You'll still be able to buy the monthly stamp individually, but we've listened to your requests to also make this a subscription so you won't have to think about purchasing every month. Here is January's "Silver Linings" stamp that you will be able to use over and over again:

Here is a video to view Melissa's unveiling of our January kits:

Thank you for visiting and have a wonderful 2014 filled with many wonderful scrapbookable moments! We can't wait to see what you do with the kits when you post your creations in our Gallery.
