Goodbye March

Hi everyone! Before we head into a new month and exciting new kits, I'm sharing a few of pages created with the beautiful March main kit 'Sonoma'. Starting with a page, dedicated to a dear family friend - Saphira, seen here modelling her new bandana! 

A personal fave scrap supply of mine would have to be black and white geometric patterned papers and the lift they can bring to a page, co-ordinating with any colour and in this case I've used a mix of gold, aqua, green and orange. The bold black word Thicker finish off the page and make a great statement

how cute is the little wooden peg? 

Geometrics feature on this page as well, which touches of gold, aqua and pink..

Finally, this quick layout of my gorgeous girls and I came about by accident really.. I pulled out the beautiful sheet of CTK paper in the main kit, and while wondering how I could use it (it seemed a shame to cut up) I noticed the scrap paint sheet next to me and how the colours seemed to go so well with the paper. So I added a few graphite scribbles, die-cuts, wood veneer and alpha and it's made the perfect artsy backdrop!

Here Sketchy Sketchy! Sketch Sunday with Aimee and Brenda.

Hiya and welcome to a very special Easter edition of the Sunday Sketch Challenge. The fact that it falls on Easter Sunday is just a coincidence. The 'very special' part is because Brenda Smith with be joining me - Two for the price of one peeps! We are nothing, if not great value here on the Citrus Twist Blog. So shall we get started? Here is the Sketch we will be rocking:

I for the first time in history stuck to the sketch (*Cough* Moderately).

I adore this page. These photos are some of my absolute favourites of Eva.

I cut a square the same size as the photos for my Journaling and used the typewriter to fill in the details. I also inked the edges to up the contrast against the background.

Oh speaking of contrast, I know it's not on the sketch, but I added the Shimelle clip to add a little more orange to balance out the title and pink fresh sticker. It was a little lost against the white cardstock, so I backed it with the black eye chart. I thought it was pretty cool given the glasses.

Last, but not least (and not required at all), I added a butterfly and an Elle's Studio tag to the bottom just to draw the eye down the page and make it a little less top heavy.

Well that about wraps up my contribution to the Sunday Sketch Challenge. I can not wait to see your take on it. Just for a little (or a lot) more inspiration, here's Brenda:

 

I have a folder on my computer of old images that I have not used for paper scrapping.  Every once in a while I dig through it to see if there is anything that fits the kits I am working with.  This time, these caught my eye.  This was my first time using a backdrop to take photos.  I literally set a sheet up in the doorway of my house where the light was pretty and snapped some photos of my middle girl.  She was so tiny!  Hooray for finding old photos to scrap.

Just one more sleep until Easter, can you believe it? I feel a bulk photo weekend coming on.  I've picked out Eva's outfits for all four days and I must admit even I was surprised how many clothes she has with bunnies on them. I may have also set aside a few pastel papers I think match her outfits, so I'll be ready to scrap at a moments notice. Okay - I know you all aren't like me, but you can borrow some of my principles for pages that go together super quick. Here's one I finished just this week with March's Sonoma Main Kit.

This is a photo from Eva's first ever bath. Looking at the dominant colours in this photo - you have the green of the bath, the pink of the soap and skin tones and the black of hubby's shirt. Not the best pallet to work with, but this months kit was PERFECT. I mean how cool is it that the Pink Paislee paper even looks like bubbles!

I found a little paper went a long way on this layout. Especially the green rose paper. That tiny little strip was all the layout really needed. Once the papers and my punched out bubbles were in place, I worked to build clusters in varying shades of my palette. *Cough* kinda went to town with the sequins and bloom puffy stickers, but I love the extra texture and dimension it adds to the layout.

I used a couple of pieces from the Bloom cut apart sheet and 2 little die-cuts from the Elle Studio pack to pull it all together. And there you have it, an easy yet striking layout, made simply by playing up the colours in your photo.

Happy Sunday Sketch Day with Trina

Hello everyone! We are getting our Sunday Sketch to you today for our weekly sketch challenge. You can use our sketch and earn a chance to win a $5 gift certificate. See below.**

Today's sketch is a 12" x 12" beauty with 4 photos. I don't know about you, but 4 photos is always a challenge. However it put to good use some 2" x 2" photos that I took of my daughter over this past year. I did take some liberties with my take.

Here is the sketch:

I converted to 8.5" x 11" as I so rarely work in 12" x 12" these days. I had to condense the horizontal width to fit 4 photos, the title and a vertical border on each side. I started out with fairly soft pattern paper columns on the left and right but found myself going back and adding strips of pattern paper and embellishments to build the color up. I used sequins instead of stars and lots of Color Shine paint splatters, too. This layout was made with the March "Sonoma" scrapbooking kit.

Tutorial: Journaling wtih Citrus Twist Kits Woodchips

Hello all!

Welcome to the Wednesday for some journaling inspiration! I'm bringing a fun tutorial for you today using Citrus Twist Kits exclusive woodchip words included in the March 2016 Embellishment Kit.  On a side note, I might have squealed a bit when I opened my kits for the month and saw the wood veneer/woodchip words.  I'm known to flip out and majorly hoard some wood veneers. Truth.

I'm in a self-challenge to journal more and the woodchip words are the perfect component to make this happen.  So, I decided to write incorporate my journaling by mixing it up with the March 2016 Main "Sonoma" Scrapbook Kit and March 2016 Embellishment Kit.

Right away I knew I wanted my 9x12 layout to have the journaling as the focus on my project. Since I wanted the placement of the woodchip words to fit properly in size and space within my typed journaling, I used Microsoft Word to type out my journaling in a rough draft.  Also, to get my thoughts together and move wording around as needed.  I highlighted in yellow the words I wanted to focus in woodchip words. 

In this way, I could make sure I was using the woodchip words of choice in the correct places and my journaling flowed cohesively.  Since I don't have a large format printer where I could print 9x12 size, I chose to use my vintage typewriter to carefully type out the journaling.  I made sure to leave enough space for the woodchip words for adhering later with liquid adhesive.

Then, I added in the woodchip words from the March 2016 Embellishment Kit.  The spacing worked out perfectly!

This technique of journaling would work perfectly for any size layout, card, mixed media art journaling, and for Pocket Life projects too!  Give it a go and have fun with it!  

Also, I can't get enough of the book text paper in the March 2016 Main "Sonoma" Scrapbook Kit and decided to add some leftover scraps to the top of my layout.

I just love this black and white photo of my dear husband, Vincenzo.  Adorbs beyond, yes, and it's a favorite in my stash of pics from his childhood.

Sunday Sketch with Wendy

Hello Citrus Twist Kits lovelies!  Wendy here to share up with you today the Sunday Sketch.

I live on the Gulf coast and we have super mild winter season and Spring is already chirping around here. The colors of the March 2016 Main "Sonoma" Kit definitely speak "bring on Spring already". So, I'm feeling all the feels with the March 2016 Main "Sonoma" Kit and something about a sketch just inspires me to really work a kit to the fullest.  If you are still feeling a bit of brrrr or a snowflake or two in your area, grab up this kit, sketch to bring some sunny and fresh vibes your way!

As my usual layout style and size, I adapted the sketch to a 9x12 layout format.

I have a little secret to share...I love to keep a smaller format of the sketches around here with Citrus Twist Kits in my Midori TN (I use this one if you are interested to know) for 'layout ideas' and a quick reference for when I'm in a creative funk.  I recently moved house and I'm finally at the point of being organized in my new art room.  So, I'm grabbing my Midori quite often to kickstart my inspiration these days.  

Here's my take on the Sunday Sketch this week...

I was inspired not only by the sketch but the "dreaming of flowers and sunshine" phrase from one of the patterned papers in the kit.  A few years ago I snapped the tulips pic while I was connecting flights in Amsterdam (from one of my many trips) to see Vincenzo (then, my fiance).   Who can't fall in love with the beauty of the tulips from the tulip mecca of Holland, right?  Flowers make me happy as well as the beautiful energy from my husband who always brings sunshine in my life.  

A beautiful combination, indeed.

The stamps are always my jam in the monthly kit!  This month was no exception, of course, I had to use a phrase here on my layout.  The 'dreaming of flowers and sunshine' is from one of the patterned papers included in the March 2016 Main "Sonoma" Kit.  

All of the embellishments are so much fun in the kit this month!!  I randomly sprinkled many of them all within my layout.  For those mini tags, I grabbed those up from leftovers in the February 2016 Sprinkles Kit.

How about those Pinkfresh phrase stickers?! Pure inspiration. I love a great quote!

3 to inspire with Brenda

Good Morning!  Brenda here to bring you this weeks 3 to inspire.

As always, you are encouraged to make whatever page you like, scrapbook or project life as long as you follow all the prompts.  

This is what I have for you this time:

1.  Use two thin strips of patterned paper

2.  Layer several tags.

3.  go vertical!  Place some of your elements in a vertical line.

This is my page using the prompts and the March "Sonoma" main kit.

This page is all about my youngest daughters love for her bear.  I had to scrap this one film shot from 2014 because lately she has been not needing him as much.  In fact, she has not even slept with him in a week.  I am heartbroken.   There will be a lot of scrap pages made using the photos I have of her with him.
