'Dream a Little Dream of me' with Karen

Hi, It’s Karen here today. I hope that you had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed spending time with family & friends. Today I want to share a layout I created with the December Kinsley scrapbook kit and Embellishment Add-On.

I feel as though I haven't scrapbooked in a while, & I've been itching to create, so once Christmas was over I could really concentrate on my craft, it felt so good! This kit has some beautiful papers in it, really dreamy colors & embellishments. When I saw the 'Pink Paislee' Moonstruck Cork Stickers with 'Dream' on it, my inspiration hit overload. Does that happen to you? I sometimes have no idea of what I want to create & use to design a layout, so I take my time to really look at the papers & embellishments & with luck, I usually am inspired. Fail that I use Pinterest, ha ha.

I loved stitching around my hand-cut 'speech' cloud using plain white embroidery thread & couldn't resist adding some more stitching on my layout elsewhere.

The kit also comes with 'We R Memory Keepers' Layered Tags, they are gorgeous & I had a hard time choosing which ones to use on my layout, in the end I went for the 'eyes' tag & my fave - black & white stripes. I love adding more layers to my photos & deciding what papers to add underneath is my fave part. My final embellishment to any layout is paint splatters, I love this part. I use colors that will accentuate my layout, I add water to my palette, get my brush full of paint & then splatter until I am satisfied. I never over do it, I glance over my layout after each splatter & ask myself is it enough? If not, I keep going!

I hope I've inspired you to create a layout today using your December Kits. Thanks for joining me, see you in January 2017! Can you believe that? Wow time certainly goes by too fast.

3 to Inspire with Gina

Hello, it's time for this week's "3 to Inspire" Challenge!
Your take on this challenge can be either a layout or PL spread and must include all 3 prompts, so here they are:

1. use a wood veneer/s
2. incorporate layered paper squares
3. add some hand journaling

Here's my take using the July Driftwood main and Sprinkles kits

I've started with a mixed media background on this page, but you don't need to - it's just my 'go to' with most pages! You might like to add a splatter of colour as a finishing touch instead.

Now it's your turn! Use the three prompts to create your own interpretation and share it with us here in the gallery. You will be eligible to win a small prize from the CTK Store. Please include the date of the challenge in the title when uploading to the gallery. Looking forward to seeing your take on this!
I'll be taking a little break designing over the next couple of months as we tour through Canada and the USA, by that time I'll be ready to get my CTK fix again in October!

Sunday Sketch with Aimee Dow

Happy Scrappy Sunday! I know every time I am rostered for a sketch challenge I complain. Worse still when it's over and done with I usually surprise myself with the final page. Apparently I still haven't learnt my lesson because this more than any other sketch, I dreaded. I actually lay in bed early one morning trying to figure out how to tackle it. After a hour of tossing and turning I decided the best think for it was just to get up and try it and you know what? I think this might just be my best one yet. Here's your sketch, should you choose to accept it:

And here's my take:

I'm not going to lie I tried really hard to stack it neatly like the sketch. You know how much I love neat and tidy but it began to look like a game of Tetris and you can send yourself bonkers trying to line everything up. So instead I decided to embrace my inner Suse Fish.

This month I was working with the Driftwood Main Kit and the Heck Yeah Add on. All that was pulled from my stash was the Heidi Shine in Ocean, Kelly Purkey's Alder Alpha stamp set, a few pop dots, the random blue 'Oh yeah' clip I found on my desk go and my tiny attacher. Not bad huh?

Now it's your turn. If you want to play along with this week's Sunday Sketch and be eligible to win a $5 gift certificate, create a project based off of the sketch and upload it to CTK Gallery by next Saturday, July 30th. Please make sure to include "Sketch 7/24" in the title line of your project.

Can't wait to see what you all come up with,

Aimee Xx

Carefree

Good Morning all!  Hope you are having a wonderful day.

Today I am bringing you a super simple but fun page.  I have been missing my paints lately but have not had time to use them.  This photo was calling for something a little extra so I pulled out my watercolors.  Since this was an ocean photo, I made the watercolor "blob" look a bit like water.

The little triangles were cute from the Shimelle Starshine "Gallileo" paper  All I did was cut one of the small squares in half and the corners off of another larger square.

Isn't this triangle stamp awesome? I went just perfectly with the other triangles on the page.

To finish off the page I used watercolor drops and some color shine in a similar color to make "splashes" from the waves.

kits used - Driftwood + Sprinkles

So, I got to play with my watercolors and have fun scrapping.  The best of both of my favorite hobbies.

Thank you for stopping by today!  Have a fabulous rest of your week.

3 to Inspire with Aimee.

Yay! Welcome to Saturday's 3 to Inspire. I love, Love, LOVE IT when I score a 3 to Inspire post because no only is it a challenge for you but it's a really great way for me to break out of my usual supplies and way of doing things. So without further ado, shall we get started?

1. Choose 3 colours from your photo to use as your design palette.
2. Add some paint.
3. Use an acetate embellishments.

When creating this layout I was trying to incorporate a fun and whimsical theme. I took the grey from the headboard of our bed, the blue from Eva's eyes and the orange from her PJs. I painted a watercolour background for the photos and added a few black paint splashes to the side for contrast. Finally I embellished with some of Paige's amazing fancy free die cuts and ephemera.

Now it's your turn! Use the three prompts to create your own projects and share them with us here in the gallery and/or our Facebook Forum. You can also upload to Instagram, but remember to tag us @citrustwistkits. Looking forward to seeing what you can do!

Tuesday Tutorial with Brenda

Good morning everyone.  Today I am sharing with you one of my favorite techniques for my simple pages.

Often I want to add more interest to my page but still want to keep things from being too over cluttered.  Plus the colors and patterns in the May kit are amazing.  I really wanted to use every paper for this first page.  Adding a cut file to the background and filling it with pretty papers usually does the trick.

Start with the cut file.  You can cut this on any size of paper and it doesn't have to be white.  White backgrounds are just my favorite.

I created this file in Illustrator just for this page,  If you want to use it, I have the PNG for you HERE.
Once you open it in your silhouette software all you need to do is resize, trace and cut.  Be sure to select "trace" or the inside of the letters won't cut out.

The hardest part was choosing the patterns I wanted to use.

Then I just hand cut a few pieces and laid them on the back of the background page.

There wasn't enough room to glue them down so I just grabbed an old roll of washi and taped it all down.

See how pretty that is!

And here is the finished page.  Colorful, fun and still true to my simple style,

Happy scrapping all!

Goodbye March

Hi everyone! Before we head into a new month and exciting new kits, I'm sharing a few of pages created with the beautiful March main kit 'Sonoma'. Starting with a page, dedicated to a dear family friend - Saphira, seen here modelling her new bandana!

A personal fave scrap supply of mine would have to be black and white geometric patterned papers and the lift they can bring to a page, co-ordinating with any colour and in this case I've used a mix of gold, aqua, green and orange. The bold black word Thicker finish off the page and make a great statement

how cute is the little wooden peg?

Geometrics feature on this page as well, which touches of gold, aqua and pink..

Finally, this quick layout of my gorgeous girls and I came about by accident really.. I pulled out the beautiful sheet of CTK paper in the main kit, and while wondering how I could use it (it seemed a shame to cut up) I noticed the scrap paint sheet next to me and how the colours seemed to go so well with the paper. So I added a few graphite scribbles, die-cuts, wood veneer and alpha and it's made the perfect artsy backdrop!

I love a happy accident when creating..thanks for visiting!
