Mixed Media with Nathalie

Hello there!

It is time to get your fingers messy and inky!  Nathalie here to give you a bit of inspiration on mixing the beautiful Heartbreaker kits, the Traveler's Notebook Stamp set, and a bit of mixed media.

Well, when i saw all the colors in the Heartbreaker scrapbook kit all I could think about  was how to incorporate lots of mixed media in a confined space (so that it is less scary to some!).  The solution use the mixed media to back a cut out / cut file.

To create the background,  i used the PinkFresh Studio liquid watercolor collection available in the CTK shop, and the packaging technique.  As the colors were being added, i was careful not to stretch them outside of the frame of the cut file, as i wanted to try at best to confine the mixed media to the area behind the cut file, and picture.

Once the background completely dried, the cut out (this was created with one of this month's free cut files available at the Citrus Twist Kits shop) was attached using some foam adhesive so that it pops off the page.

Now it was time to complete the layout; first i backed the picture with one of the beautiful Willow Lane Papers included in the Hearbreaker kit, and then added layers of ephemera, elements from the die-cut page (available for free at the CTK shop) and some of the gold chipboard and puffy stickers that are included in the Scrapbook and embellishment Kits.  Loving the golden accents on the page!  Along the way, I added a few sentiments to the page using this month's Traveler's Notebook Stamp set - Mom Duty -.

Since the picture  was placed in the top left corner of the page, a large cluster was placed in the bottom right corner of the page using a combination of the Heartbreaker kit's embellishments such as ephemera (love that big camera form the Amy Tangerine's die cut pack), puffy stickers, and some of the chipboard stickers from the embellishment kit.
The following video will give you a more in depthe look at how this page was put together using the Heartbreaker kits:

I know some are still intimidated by mixed media, but having the mixed media confined to a selected space reduces the messy look of the page, and adds the perfect pop of color to the background, or in this case as the backing of a cut out.

I  hope this inspires you to use a bit of mixed media in your memory keeping.  Remember to share with us what you are creating with the Heartbreaker kits, we love to see the kits in action and be inspired by all your projects.

XO

Tuesday Tutorial with Alena

It's Alena here today with simple tutorial about how to add some interesting effect to your Pocket Pages.
First, a cut file with round holes was cut  size 6x7. I prepared a background of white cardboard a little smaller, 5, 5x8.
From the patterned paper, which was included in the set, I cut a few pieces.
Then gold accents and a title were added.
Now com the best part - choose the perfect embellishment. It was pieces chipboard, Ephemera, Puffy Stickers.

It remains to add a phrase using a stamp from the set and a couple of buttons.
This is what the spread looks like:

I hope you are inspired to create something with your CTK kit today!

Project Life with Adele

Hi scrappy peeps!

Today I have a fun PL process video for you using the gorgeous September Heartbreaker PL kit. I am in love with all the beautiful embellies included this month and have already created four spreads using this same kit.

I actually used the backside of the previous page's Heartbreaker journaling cards for this page. It's a great way to get more out of your PL kit every month too.

I love this month's stamp releases and included them across the spread. I think I'll get a lot of use out of the "Mom Duty" stamp set!

I hope you also enjoy my accompanying process video for this page! Have a rad scrappy week!
Adele :)

Sunday Sketch- Candace

Hello my beautiful CTK friends!  I am so excited to be with you today sharing a little Sunday inspiration with the September kit along with the Sunday sketch.  I usually work with pocket pages so I was so happy to work on a full page layout!  Here is a look at the sketch for today.

I love working with sketches!  It helps the layout come together in a snap! Working with a good template helps boost my creativity and helps me think out of my normal scrapbooking box.  I liked that in this sketch the focal point was a big cluster of papers, embellishments and photos! Here is a look at my final layout using the sketch as inspiration.

I choose various papers from the kit that coordinated and created a nice soft looking spread to match the theme of my photos.  I adore the papers from the Maggie Holmes Willow Lane collection and they made the pregnancy pictures of my sister look so feminine and beautiful! Even down to the flowers!

I used this month's digital cut file to create the beautiful lattice work behind the photos.  I love the detail and softness it brings to the spread.  What is so great about digital files is that they can be manipulated to fit any type of project.

To add to the detail and texture of the spread I added stitching to a few spots around the spread.

My final touch was a little repeated stamping.  So cute!

I can't wait to put this in a frame for my sister to add to the decor in her nursery.  What a special memory... and it all started with a sketch. ;)

Thanks for stopping by!  I can't wait to see how this sketch inspires you to tell your stories!

3-To- Inspire with Anna

Hi CTK friends! It's Anna here today on the blog to bring you this week's edition of  the 3-To-Inspire challenge. We love to share this challenge every Saturday for those of us that are looking for a little extra push for our mojo and to get scrapbooking. Or you maybe just need a challenge to dig into :)
And last but not least, you get the chance to win a little something from the CTK shop as a bonus,YAY!

Be sure to join me this week using the following prompts:

1. Use Epoxy Stickers ( there's lot's of those goodies in the Scrapbook and PL Kits )

2. Use Die-Cut Shapes/ Ephemeras ( same here, lots of them in the kits and they are to die for)

3. Use Paint/Mists ( Have you seen all the great Mist/ Paint storage tips by the team here? )

Well, here's what I came up with using the  September Heartbreaker Scrapbook kit!
(Ok a pair of the stamps from the Pocket Life kit slipped through as well, lol!)

First i prepared my background using two tone in tone yellow mist's after drying i started to assemble my papers, different embellishments and my photo. As usual when I'm scrapping, I made a few stitches with my old trusty sewing machine. And then I finished my page of with some black and yellow ink splatters and some stamping as well.

And there you have it! I made it through, using all three promps (and a few more pieces, lol), YAY!
I hope I have inspired you to give it a go! Can't wait to see :)
Be sure to share your creations with us on the Citrus Twist Fans Page  and don't forget to tag us with @citrustwistkits/#citrustwistkits on any social media:)

Pocket Life Challenge with Diane

Hi Guys! Diane here with another Pocket Life Challenge for you!

Sometimes, I have more photos than I can fit into one week of Project Life. Lets be fair, it doesn't happen often, but when it does, I REALLY want to fit them in! Solution? Add an insert!

You don't need to buy a special pack of inserts for the odd occasion you need to add more photos. It is very easy to cut down your existing protectors to suit! In fact, I might even say it's even better than bought ones, because you can choose which configuration suits your page best. I cut mine so the 6x4 photo was a t the top instead of the bottom.

I make sure I try to tie my insert to the week it belongs with by using the same papers, cards, embellishments and colours as the original week. You can see here I used the exact same paper offcuts as filler cards, and I repeated the heart motifs to tie the two pages together. Adding a tab to the side of your insert helps to identify it as a separate page.

So my challenge to you is: Add as many extra photos as you can this week by cutting down a page protector!

Here's a quick look at how I added the extra photos I had this week...

Don't forget to post your layouts in the Facebook Fan Page so we can all the lovely pages you make!

Product Hightlight: Epoxy Stickers

Hey there!  It's Kira and I am back with another 8.5x11 layout using the September Heartbreaker kits!  I wanted to focus on the epoxy stickers included in the kit, so I started with a few of those as inspiration for this layout.

I love this circle with the "stay cool" phrase.  The colors were just too perfect for this photo of me on the beach in my new bathing suit.  I decided to use the circle and the colors as inspiration for the rest of the layout.

A really easy way to add lots of color and pattern to your layout is with a cut file.  I used the exclusive Joined Circles cut file for this layout.  I backed it with papers in the pink, green and black color family.  It was super easy to back too!  I just used a circle punch to punch out all the papers, and randomly chose from piles of circles.

I placed the cut file at an angle on my background to add a little bit of whimsy to the layout.  Then using my sewing machine, I stitched vertically down the circles.  Originally I had planned to layer a few of the circle epoxy stickers on top of the cut file circles, but somehow my layout took another turn, but I still think that would be a really cute idea!

Instead, I added a few embellishment clusters around my page, sticking with the same pink, green and black color scheme.  I finished the page off with some black watercolor splatters.

I can't wait to see how you use the exclusive epoxy stickers!
