Guessing Game #6 - Saturday Inspiration

Happy weekend Citrus Twist friends! It's Nathalie here today to share a new page with the July main kit "Sail Away" and the embellishment kit "Go Girl". There are a few feminine elements in this main kit and instead of making another page about my boys, I decided to make a page about one of my obsessions: dark chocolate. I hope some of you can relate! :D

I loved the ombré paper so much (if you know who makes it, leave your guess in the comments!) I didn't want to cover it up so I centered one photo over a few layers then continued with a vertical design for my title and journaling. The gold doilie which I pulled from my stash is a reminder of the gold inner wrapping my delicious chocolate comes in.

The three brads are from the embellishment kit as well as the alpha stickers. The date stamp used on the glassine bag is from a previous kit.

Guessing Game #5 - Playing with Project Life with April

Happy Friday and Happy Project Life Day!

It's April again!  I'm back to share one of the PL spreads I completed using the July PL and Embellies Kits!

I know I probably say this every time, but I think July's kits have been my favorite to date.  I loved the color palette this month and the fact that, again, it was packed with so many goodies!

This month, we received a mask in the Embellie add-on.  I don't typically use mists and masks, but I'm definitely planning to start incorporating them more because they are SO fun!  The mask included the "week in review", "love it", and "yum" statements - super perfect for PL!

I've noticed that I have been using flip pockets a lot lately. This week was no exception. I received a thank you card in the mail and wanted to include both the front and the inside text of the card, so I created a flip pocket that flipped to the side (instead of from top).  This was a quick and easy pocket made by using the blue chevron washi that came with this month's kits:

I'm a typically very square-ish person when it comes to shapes/layouts (and maybe in real life too?! LOL!), so it was fun to play around with hexagons on a couple of my cards this month.

The sequins that came in the kit were so pretty, so I sprinkled them around a few of my cards.  The "explore everyday" quote came from a 3x4 journaling card that I fussy cut.  I saw the quote "collect moments, not things" on Pinterest and liked it so much that I made my own journaling card.

**Note:  The red Jillibean alphas are from my stash as is the Mister Huey's mist that I used on the mask.  I also used a couple of stamps from previous CTK kits (Jen Boumis' stamp and the Dear Lizzy stamp roller).

Guessing Game #4 - Be Inspired With Sandy

Hi it's Sandy wishing everyone who celebrates a very happy 4th of July. For this Be Inspired post I'm sharing a layout inspired by home décor, in particular, the look of vintage wallpaper above  wainscoting panels.

Here's my inspiration photo. I use the same colours of blue, green and kraft on my page. Instead of the gold highlights I substitute a muted red in the form of the scallop pattern. Keeping in mind the theme of retro vintage makes it easy to mix papers from the various kits this month.

My favourite elements on this page are the vellum die-cuts. The waves floating above a matching blue diamond pattern makes an airy ruffle border while the map of America is turned on it's side to become a sort of ink splatter on the left. I love the little embellishments Trina includes in the kits such as this bird paperclip and rhinestone brad. 



The only things I added from my stash are these chipboard words and the 'through the lens' stamp which comes from a previous Citrus Twist kit. Everything else comes from the July Main, Embellie Kit, Add-On Kit and Pattern Paper Kits.

Guessing Game #3 - 6 x 6 Paper Play with April

Hi everyone!  Welcome to day 3 of our July kit previews!

April here to share a layout I made using the 6x6 paper pad and some scraps I had leftover from the July PL and Embellie kits.  I had a lot of pictures to scrap this week, so I created a couple of layout inserts to add to my PL album.

I use a lot of the 6x6 pads in my PL spreads and when I'm done with them, I end up having a lot of 2x6 scraps.  It's awesome because I end up having a lot of material to work with for layering on my regular layouts.

I have to say, I was not a fan of the distressed look before, but I pulled out my paper distresser for the first time for this layout and now I am totally a fan!  I love the texture it adds.

A lot of time, if I don't have a use for a whole journaling card that comes in the kit, I cut it up to use elements designed on the card.  In this case, I fussy cut the stars from a journaling card.

Guessing Game #2 - Tuesday Tutorial: Packing a Scrapbooking Toolbox for Vacation

It’s Trina here today, just back from vacation. I don’t know about you, but I can never go on a trip without bringing my scrapbooking with me. Today I thought I’d share what I do to pack just enough to get a little scrapbooking in while I travel. For my recent trip I included items from the June and July Main and Project Life kits (I couldn’t resist mixing and matching the kits for our trip).

I scrapbook in miniature when I travel, using the Simple Stories SN@P! sleeves. I especially like the 6 x 8 sleeves because I can do quick mini scrapbook pages to showcase 1 or 2 photos. These pages only take about 15-20 minutes each, so it’s easy to do while traveling.

First, I’ll share a photo of what I bring looks like just before I tuck it into my suitcase. I pack a fun assortment of tools into a small box that is about 8 x 4 x 4. Since I bring scissors, I check my bag:

Next you get to see what is in each of the packages I pack. I throw enough in the box to have some fun, including embellies. Here is what’s inside my small toolbox:

Here is a shot of what’s wrapped up in the paper bag—paper products and Simple Stories sleeves. I precut my paper so I don’t need a paper trimmer. I slip the precut paper and alphas into the sleeves to protect them while traveling. I generally have to cut the alphas in half to fit them into the sleeves as I don’t like to pack anything bigger than a 6 x 8 dimension:

I just got a new toy that I love. It’s my Fuji Instax 8. What I love about this camera (beyond the fond memories of old Polaroid cameras) is that I get instant prints to scrapbook with:

This is my favorite 6 x 8 mini page from our vacation. The tiny Instax 8 Polaroid photos worked perfect for this page size. I used the string that was wrapped around my paper bag on almost every page I did. I glued the string down with Tombow Mono glue.

This page was a lot of fun to make. The backside of the wood-grain paper (July Main kit) is hexagon shaped umbrellas. I cut out around one of the hexagons so there was a hexagon-shaped hole in the 6 x 8 paper. Next I cut a small piece of paper out and glued it to the back of the wood-grain paper so pattern paper shows through. Then I cut out one of the hexagon shapes from the label sheet that we include in our PL kits. Last, I put a thin strip of Monoglue around the edge of the bigger hexagon to glue down the yellow string. Framing a shape or a photo with string will add a fun little pop to your pages.

Guessing Game #1 - Simple Strategies with Sandy

Hi it's Sandy welcoming you to our July preview. Starting today our designers will be showcasing projects designed with the July Kits. I'm kicking things off with this travel-themed layout featuring papers from the Add-On Kit and embellishments from both the Main Kit and the Embellie Kit.

My starting point is this photo taken from a rickshaw in India. It's a busy picture so I print it quite large and put it on a 12"x12" page instead of my usual 8.5"x11" format. I layer pattern papers around  the photo forming an L-shape. Then place a triangle 'shelf' on top for my title (chipboard travel words from my stash) to rest on.



Since this is a Monday post I have a Simple Strategy to share. When adhering vellum, such as these blue arrows, sewing them on is a great way to avoid glue showing through the paper. Sewing without too much tension in the thread allows you to create an effect of the vellum floating above your page.
