Tuesday Tutorial

Good morning and Happy July!  This is Michelle here to give you your first sneak of July's Main and Embellishment Kits with a look at how I created an 8.5 x 11 layout.

When designing layouts featuring my son, I tend to go a little bit more geometric. This time I chose to feature a starburst to bring the attention straight to an Instagram of my son at the end of a baseball game.

Starbursts can sometimes be a little time consuming, especially when you want to use multiple patterned papers.  Luckily, I recently ran across some advice that simplified the process.  The basics of this starburst technique is to staple strips of patterned paper together, making you able to then fan the papers out into a desired arrangement without having to painstakingly cut and piece them together.  Since I wanted the starburst to radiate from the photo in two spots, I put together two bundles of paper strips using my standard stapler (I tried this with my Tiny Attacher, but found that the larger staple gave my strips more "mobility.")

To make this already easy technique even easier, I decided to staple my strips of paper directly onto my background paper where my photo would be placed. I then played around with the arrangment and placed a little bit of glue along the strips to hold them down. Here is what the final placement looked like:

 

I find that in most cases when layering paper and embellishment over staples, that staples can be a bit bulky.  To offset this, I applied pop dots to the patterned paper that I matted my picture with.

Guessing Game #3: Sunday Sketch with Nathalie

Happy Sunday CTK fans! It's Nathalie here today to share our first sketch challenge of the month and my example created with the November main kit only:

I am always so inspired by Kasia's sketches that I stay pretty close to the original designs... but this time I was hesitant to cut photos into circles (would love to see your page if you do!) and I came up with the idea of adding vellum with a round window on top of my 4x6 photo instead. I really do like the end result:

This kit is so pretty and versatile, I can't wait to show you the rest of my pages with it!

Guessing Game #7 - 6x6 Paper Play with April

Hi everyone! Happy Wednesday and welcome to the 7th day of our August Peek Week!

April here to share a layout I made with the scraps from the August Pocket Life kit.  This layout was actually inspired by one of Kasia's awesome sketches from a couple of weeks ago.

I had a couple of pictures from a friend's baby shower a few months ago that I had been holding off on scrapping.  It's going in as an insert to my PL album.

And here is my layout!  I think it's a bit obvious in this layout that I LOVE cut-away papers!

I used some foam circles to lift a few of the squares off the page to add some dimension:

The "Star and Bee" wood veneers that are making it's debut in this month's kit are super cute.  I guarantee that you'll be sprinkling them everywhere on your projects!

All supplies came from the August Pocket Life kit except for the orange Thickers.  Those are from the August Embellishment kit!

Here is my take using the August Main Kit (only).  I thought I'd do a take on the sketch from a recent family wedding. I really enjoyed sewing in circles with both yellow and orange threads, taking my inspiration from Kasia's sketch.

Meet Our August Guest Designer Michelle Wedertz

Hello! My name is Michelle Wedertz. I am a wife to an awesome adventuresome husband and a mother to 3 beautiful and sometimes crazy kiddos-Hayden, Maleia, and Allora. When I am not running my family around or taking care of them I spend my time scrapping, reading, pinning, and watching the Food Network. LOL. I am so excited to be sharing my creations with you this month!

 

Guest Design Q&A

1. How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start? I took my first scrapbook class many moons ago when my twelve year old son was little because I wanted to make a baby book for him. My scrapping became more of a "lifestyle" when I became a SAHM when my daughter was born in 2010. LOL. My brain likes to be occupied and scrapping does that for me.

2. How would you describe your scrapbooking style? This is tough. I tend to jump around a bit depending on what is inspiring me at the moment. But if I had to nail it down, I would say simple design with layers.

3. Which scrapbookers have influenced you most? Jen Jockish--she layers like no other. Janna Werner--does wonderful things with whitespace.

4. What is your favorite thing about kit clubs? I love that I can get a variety of products that all co-ordinate with each other. I have no problem shopping for scrapping supplies, I quite excel at it actually, but I like the mix-and-match appeal of a kit as opposed to myself just buying one collection. It's sort of like have a personal shopper, which makes me feel very cool!
5. If you departed on a long family vacation this summer, what are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items you would bring with you (besides your camera and photos!)? Paper. Paper trimmer. White thread. Mist. Black pen.

6. How would you describe the Citrus Twist August kit and what do you enjoy most about the kit? I would describe Citrus Twist's August kit as a little vintage with a splash of modern! What I enjoyed most about the kit is that for the most part it's neutral in theme and color, but there is a beautiful splash of color that just makes it all pop off the page!
