In My Studio with Leigh

Hello crafty friends! I am so excited to reveal my new craft room, and share my creative space with you.

We just moved in and I have been working hard to get my craft room up and running. I did all the design and installation myself, except for the Sugar Paper LA desk above, that my husband helped me with. 

This craft room is smaller than my previous room, but my gold striped pegboard DIY project is still definitely a necessity. I used the new Heidi Swapp Gold Foil Flakes to foil the "Shine" word from Hello Heidi Wall Art line.  

The view from the doorway as you enter the room. For my craft room to work for me, I need to have separate stations or zones for each step in the creation process. The desk along the back wall features:

• Computer zone for editing and printing photos and using the Silhouette Machine
• Sewing and Heidi Swapp Minc machine station
• often used supplies on the pegboard
• Citrus Twist Kits Design Team binders and schedules 
• printing supplies stored near printer

The Sugar Paper LA desk from Target in the center of the room features:

• We R Memory Keepers Typecast Typewriter 
• this month's CTK kit in the drawers 
• adhesives and paper trimmers in the drawers

The back left plastic drawers hold paper scraps by color, and the wire cart next to it holds the Minc Foils and Bible Journaling supplies.

Inside the room looking back at the door, you can see my planning and Traveler's Notebook Station along that wall. Everything in the Michael's wall organizers above the desk is used for planning and Traveler's Notebook specific tasks. This planning and TN station features:

• daily hand lettering supplies like brush pens and Rhodia paper pads 
• planner stamps and inks
• small scale punches
• labels
• page flags and Post-it Notes
• favorite travel washi
• rotary stamps
• planners and TN's
• monthly planning kit subscriptions 

Close up of the wall organizers. You can see my bullet proof( aka water proof ) Noodler's Inks for fountain pens, and travel related stamps. 

All my planner pens and highlighters are close by in the Michael's pen/marker storage, and some clear dollar store bins. 

Love the Heidi Swapp wall words, and I spray painted this one with my favorite gold spray paint by Rustoleum (from Wal-mart). Ikea Kallax unit here for scrapbook supplies. Lots of Heidi Swapp goodness here as well as past Citrus Twist Kits in large plastic storage bags inside the white bins. 

The closet holds tools and embellishments, and extra supplies like adhesives and paper trimmer blades. All my Project Life supplies are also stacked in here. I have white curtains and am waiting on the other half of my curtain rod to show up so I can hang them. :)

In My Studio with Karen

It's Karen, today I wanted to invite you on a little tour of what I call my studio, the place where I create. I've wanted to show you my space for a while now, its a work in progress, I've currently got another table on order and some new shelves so I will have to share with you my updated studio when that happens, but for now have a look at where I 'work'. 

I'm fortunate enough to have my own space in our house, lucky me! I of course share the studio with my crafty girls, who happen to love sitting in here as well and 'playing'. My youngest tells me all the time that she wants a room just like mine when she grows up! Cute.

Lets start with the photo above, this is my desk, it's gigantic and really deep so lots of space to create a mess. I keep my picture mate printer handy on the left hand side, my scrap paper basket to the right, that needs sorting stat, its starting to overflow. In the white lace basket I keep current Project Life cards that might make it into my layouts over the next few weeks/months. In the tray I keep the current 'Citrus Twist Kits' so the contents are easy to find and in front of me while I create the layouts for the Design Team. My favourite part of this side of the studio is my big yellow 'Hello'. After I named my blog I found this in a local store and just had to have it. Its big and bright.

These lovely wooden draws contain embellishments such as die cuts, frames, tags and some tools. I love my washi tape man, I saw this idea on Dear Lizzy's blog. The wire basket contains the contents of the latest Week in the Life kit as I will be working on that soon. I update my banner on my wall above my desk every month or so, I love that I can change the whole look of my studio when I feel like it.

This shelf currently holds some of my planner collection, as well as little while bowls of wood veneers and some planner items like sticky notes, tabs and stickers. That basket.... drool....

To the right of my desk is a filing cabinet that has project life cards on top, plus big letters and numbers, planner pens, scrapbooking stickers & enamel dots. In that tray is large scrap paper, ink pads, glue runners and a tiny attacher plus staples. I have a few 'hello' items in my studio, my favourite word.

Behind my work table is another little space to create & take my photos, I keep a lot of my scrapbooking embellishments, cutters, punches and thickers over on this side of the studio. The three-tired wire basket holds ribbon, washi tape and twine. Yum. Under that table.... a sewing machine that pops out, various craft items that are too messy to show, ha ha. 

I love this particular space in my studio and the new tables and shelves are going to be all white of course, along the entire length of this wall, I can't wait. I keep my beloved midori travellers notebook over here, stamps, current collections, some more washi of course!

A close up of my ribbon and washi, project life kits, paper pads, 12x 12 paper on the bottom and thickers in those plastic tubs. This shelf holds a lot, it also has my past albums up the top. Plus all my teaching resources are here too. 

My studio gets the most perfect light, in the afternoon the sun shines right in, its a beautiful space to be in in the winter especially, so warm and cozy. We have a small leather lounge in here and this coffee table, perfect for sitting and relaxing, the girls read in here too. This table has some of my latest scrapbook layouts on the little easel, I love that they are on display for my family to see what I have been creating before they go in the albums.

In My Studio with Christin

Christin here, hello and welcome to my scrap studio. I have my scrap room in the basement and although it is pretty big, the lighting isn't perfect and even with studio lamps I am not happy with the lights for making videos. When we moved in the room was installed with a dimmer so I can't have big lights in the ceiling. (yet) All my white furniture are from Ikea and a lot of the boxes too...  Glad to have Ikea only 30 minutes away.

Here you can see my corner. I am NOT very good at getting rid of stuff, but I give away things to the day care and the schools after-school program once in a while.


I like to keep as most things that I might use as close as possible, I hate moving around in the room to find things.I keep most things on a shelf next to me.

I have labeled most of my boxes with shipping tags



I keep my latest CTK embellishments in a plastic box and the things from kits that would work with PL I put in another box.



Most of my flairs are stored in metal boxes



I keep sequins and wood veneers in plastic containers like this.



In my Alex drawers I have some drawers with just mess, others I have sorted with paint, stamp pads or thread.




Stamps that are used all the time go in a box like this. I would go crazy puting them back all the time since I one evening might use 10 of them 4-5 times each....



My stencils goes in this Ikea container



When I go to crops I put papers and embellishments in these and put in a tote.



Some of my washi go in my small Expedit. The rest are put in other boxes.



I share this room with two kids and have set up three stations for them. One if they want to watch a movie on my computer (I have a separate screen on my side, not an extra computer) which is the extra table next to my table. Then there is the table in the middle of the room where they can sit and draw/stamp/something else together. And behind that table is the TV spot where they watch TV or play on the Wii U.  (the lady and the dog on the wall is embroidery I did years ago before I found scrapbooking. In the white boxes to the left I sort out other hobbies and stuff for altering + like pearls and fabric



Showing off my studio was a very big inspiration to clean it up a little, my 5 year old LOVES to cut up pieces of paper or use washi tape on paper pieces and my floor is often covered in all of this. They also bring lots of toys down here.  I am also getting better at cleaning out my desk after I scrap, it works better when I have a designated place to store things.   Since I often work on 4-5 projects at the same time I tend to use up a lot of space...

In the Studio: Scrap Spaces

Michelle here to share with you a little look into my scrappy place. 

Prior to sharing any photos though, I have to be completely up front with you: I don't keep a lot of supplies on hand.  I am ruthless when it comes to keeping my scrap stuff and creative area neat and organized.  I purge my items regularly and I have no problem giving away supplies that I know I will not use.  This is a result of two things.  First, I have watched way too many episodes of Hoarders on TLC. Second, I do not have my own craft room.  I scrap in the kitchen on an island and my supplies are stored in various spots throughout the house.  I am patiently waiting for one of my three children to volunteer one of their rooms for me, but until then I happily work with what I have!  Here's a glimpse into how I store my scrap supplies.

All of my storage containers are clear, so that I can easily see what is inside.  I recently sorted my paper by color and I am optimistic that this will work out, we'll see. I like to store my embellishments by type.  For example, I like to keep my bulkier items all together in their packaging in one container. In another container, I mix up all of my diecuts and chipboard pieces together so that I can easily sort through and find what I am looking for.

 

This is where I keep what I call my "layering stuff."  Tags, diecuts, labels, doilies, ect.  When I am in the first stages of making a layout I put this basket out so that I can readily pull from it whatever I need. These are my scrapbooking staples, basic items that I can easily match with other products and kits.
 

 

All of my small embellishments are sorted into divided containers.

I store my Citrus Twist Kits in Iris containers.  This makes it super easy for me to keep my kit together and if I need to clear up my space real quick, I can just pop everything into the box, layouts included, and put it away.
 

So there you have it, a peek into how I organize my scrappy space.
