6 x 6 Paper Play with April

Hi everyone!  April here to share the second layout I created as an insert to my PL week 22.

For this layout, I used the scraps from my 6x6 pad to create the layers behind my two pictures.  I'd love to tell you that I have an actual "process" of where I put what, but I don't.. lol!  I usually have a picture(s) and the materials that I want on a layout, then I just add things, remove things, move them around, until everything looks "just right."  But sometimes, if I can't get it to look "right" - I just shrug my shoulders and say, "this is good enough" and I move on!

This was one of those layouts.  After I got the layers mounted to a spot that was good enough, I decided it would be a good idea to use my Handy Stitch hand sewer to sew a border around the blue cardstock.  That thing has a mind of it's own, so please excuse the crazy, random stitching.  I'm telling myself the crazy stitching gives my layouts personality! Haha!

Sorry for the bad lighting in this picture, but I wanted to show you where the "babes" in the title came from.  I love using this technique to incorporate different alphas to my spreads.

tuesday tutorial - a stencilled background

Hi everyone, Gina here to share a layout using the Crafter's Workshop stencil found in this month's 'Go Girl' Embellie kit.. I've created a subtle background on this layout using both sides of the stencil..and I'll how you how to do this in a few steps..

to make the background I placed the stencil where I wanted to have the majority of the background colour and added some scrap paper strips around the stencil. I usually rip the strips so that the edges are 'softer' when misting..

I then sprayed with 2-3 colors onto the stencil..in this case, I've used a couple of Heidi Swapp Color Shine mists 

After the first spray, I lifted the stencil up, turned it over, pressings down lightly to 'print' the excess mists onto the page. If you have a lot of mist sitting on the stencil, dab a bit off on scrap paper first. This technique can help soften the effect. In this case, I've printed with the arrow sections of the stencil and even resprayed the stencil over scrap paper and repeated the process to extend the printed area.. I've also added a few turquoise and green ink drops

Continuing with my obsession for triangles I've used some paper scraps to stack 3 triangles and mount them under diagonally opposite corners of the photo..

The October Afternoon 'Miscellany' pack in the 'Travel' kit Add-On has enough goodies for several layouts (and they're also perfect for cards!) and I've layered some tags and tickets on this page and added some pretty ribbon, also from the pack..

a little messy machine stitching adds texture and I've used half of the exclusive (epic fail) stamp in orange ink from a previous kit

for the title I've used a pastel brown ink pad from a previous kit to dull down the bright pink letters a bit and then stitched them in place. The small alpha stickers are from my stash..

Simple Strategies

Happy Monday everyone! It's Kasia here and I would like to share with you a simple idea how to use a mask which you get with your July embellishment kit Go Girl!. I know that if you aren't that much into mixed media items like masks can be a bit overwhelming, so today's technique will be simple, easy to achieve with basic supplies and not messy at all! First have a look at finished layout- I made it using the main kit Sail Away and embellishment kit.

Before adding paper to the page I covered my craft base with some white acrylic paint. Once the paint dried I added the photograph layered with some patterned paper. I grabbed a ruler and pencil and drew some boxes around the photograph. Than I used the mask as a stencil and drew some of the shapes from it with my pencil directly on the layout.

Finally I grabbed my set of watercolors and a thin brush, I wet the brush and painted with watercolor inside the pencil lines. Use wet brush and a little bit of paint and add more color as you go. You can also mix colors  when the paint is still went to achieve blended look like you can see below

I hope you feel inspired by this Simple Strategy! While using the brush and paints with your mask you can work slower and more carefully than with mist so it's a great way to create a bit of artsy touches on your page when you are just starting mixed media adventures. I will share one more secret with you- sometimes the best ''medias'' might be waiting outside your scraproom :) Do you like the look of red, shiny dots on my layout? Well, consider experimenting with some nail polish as a fun experience:)

Card Day

Nathalie here to share my card using the main kit. I had fun creating this card with the help of a video tutorial explaining how to make an origami dress (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGEq5b_57DQ). I added a bit of washi from a previous kit, some ric rac and an SRM sticker from my stash.

Sandy here sharing my card using the July kit. I'm a big tennis fan and this card was made while watching that epic Wimbledon semi-finals between Djokovic and del Porto last night



Here is Amélie and today, for me, a travelling card! To make it, I used Main kit and Add-ons kits. Only the doily is from my stash.

 

It's Kasia here and I have a rather masculine card created with main July kit and embellishments add on. I made it for my brother's graduation so I used calm colors and rather classic composition- the stamps from stamp add on kit were a good addition for this occasion!

 

Gina here sharing a card created with the super cute doggie paper from the main kit. I've layered it here with a couple of other papers and washi. The alpha is from the 'Go Girl' embellie kit and to finish I've added a few enamel dots, button and ribbon from the 'Travel' kit Add-On.
