June Guest Designer

Today on the blog, we would like to introduce you to our June Guest Designer. Say hello to Brandi Kincaid!

Hello everyone! I am so thrilled to be the guest this month!  I am a memory keeper and illustrator living with my husband in the beautiful Northwest. When my day job ends, that's when my craft time begins and I love to spend it creating a variety of projects from weekly pocket page spreads, full size layouts, and chunky mini books. I love old paperback books that smell like your grandmother's guest room, black coffee, and jigsaw puzzles.  I have an unabashed lof of Murder, She Wrote and J.B. Fletcher, and it's often the soundtrack to my paper projects.

To get to know our guest Brandi a little better, we've had her do a little Q&A with us:
How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start?

I started paper crafting in the autumn of 2013 with Project Life, which I continue to do as well as now making full scrapbook layouts and mini books. I began the practice of memory keeping after a week long visit with my mother not too long after she was diagnosed with cancer. I was watching her life change on a very basic day to day level and it made me want to tell more of my story and to take note of the little things as well as the big things.

How would you describe your scrapbooking style?

Simple. It's important to me to be able to continue this love of paper crafting, but time is always running short, so I tend to keep things clean and simple often with repeating elements, lots of white space alongside rich colors, and embellishments that help me tell the story.

Which scrapbookers have influenced you most?

So, so many, but I'd be remiss if I didn't include Ali Edwards, Tina Azmus, and Pam Baldwin. I love that they all tell very different stories in ways that are so unique to their lens on life, and yet, so universally relatable and beautiful.

What is your favorite thing about kit clubs?

I adore that not only does inspiration arrive at your doorstep, but it comes packed with both things you love right away as well as things you cannont immediately see how you will use in your work. The challenge of being introduced to something new, whether it be a color, design, or a medium, is such an incredible opportunity to stretch ourselves, get creative, and have more fun.  This kind of creative challenge is not always something we offer ourselves when we're buying everything ourselves piece by piece.

What are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items that you can't live without?

My tiny stapler, my tape gun, simple embellishments with a bit of dimension, a good black ink pad, and a black pen.

How would you describe the Citrus Twist June "Capri" Pocket Life Kit and what do you enjoy most about it?

There's something magical about the June Capri Kit, a kind of whimsy that charms you with soft colors and embellishments that tell the story of a small, creative adventure.  The phrases in the stamp set are high on my list of favorites because they're so versatile, but I have to say that the puffy stickers totally stole my heart.

Before we share her first project for June with you, lets take a peak inside where Brandi creates:
