Guessing Game #3 -Simple Strategies with Melissa

Hi, everyone! Melissa here to share a layout with you today and some ideas for working a bit backwards in your scrapbooking process by taking inspiration for starting your page from an embellishment rather than a photo or patterned paper.

Most of the time I start my layouts by choosing photos that will work with the products I have on my desk. From there I decide on an arrangement for the photos and layer in patterned paper. Embellishments are usually one of the last things I add to a layout.

For this page, though, I started close to the end of my process. As I was unpacking my June kits, the chipboard frames from Crate Paper's The Pier collection really caught my eye, and I found myself playing with them on a piece of cardstock, working on different layered arrangements. Somewhere during the process I also decided that the cheesecloth in the main kit would make a great layered element behind them. It wasn't until after I had a cluster of the chipboard frames arranged that I went to my photos to look for something that would work for my page. I chose some photos of a tropical sunset and placed them behind three of the frames, adding clusters of small embellishments and my journaling to the others to finish off the page.

Sometimes starting at the end of your process is a great way to get out of a creative rut and discover new ways to use your supplies!
