3 To Inspire with Veera

It's time for this week's 3 To Inspire Challenge! Here are my three prompts for you:

1. Layer tags
2. Use elements from previous kits
3. Use a color that you haven't used a lot

For this layout, I wanted to challenge myself to use the gorgeous purple that was included in the June scrapbook kit. I really like that color but haven't really used that in my scrapbook layouts.

When I saw the die cuts 1, 2, 3 I knew I wanted to create a list. My original idea was to add journaling to this list but that didn't work as I hated how my handwriting looked. Tags to the rescue and I covered the journaling with the tags. Instead of writing my own journaling I took some old phrase stickers from previous CTK kit to act as my journaling.

Even though I wasn't brave enough to have handwritten journaling on my layout I encourage you to do so! I really like how handwritten journaling looks on layouts and I want to learn how to add that to my layouts more!

Scrapbooking a Page About a Best Friend

Good morning everyone!

It's Trina here today and I'm sharing a page about my best friend. My challenge to you today is to scrapbook a page about your best friend.

Karen and I met when we were in middle school. We knew each other at school (she was the new girl at school) and one day an adorable little stray kitten wandered in the open door of our math classroom. That kitten bonded us (we were both determined that between the two of us we could convince one of our parents to adopt it) and we've been best friends ever since.

I worked in my usual trim size: 6" x 8" so I can tuck this in my 2018 PL album. The page needed a little something when it was done so I drew lines, squiggles and journaled along the edges of my layout. (Try this! It is fun.)

I started the page off using a tiny bubbles stencil (this stencil will be in the Citrus Twist Shop for July) and used some of Vicki Boutin's yummy acrylics to add paint to my page. (You'll want to check out our July Mixed Media kit for some of Vicki's acrylics.)

I grabbed one of Maggie Holme's Flourish papers and fussy cut the scalloped paper then layered it with an exclusive piece of paper from our June Cypress Pocket Life kit.

Next I worked with the remnants of my Crate Paper Here & There Envelope paper from the June Cypress Scrapbooking kit, trimmed them down and randomly arranged them in layers. Instead of glueing the envelope paper down I lay a strip of Crate Paper Wild Heart pattern paper horizontally over the arranged layers and stitched it all down with one little line of stitching. This was an easy peasy way to attach a biggish grouping of layers.

Here is a close-up of that stitching (and you can see the stencil I used peeking out to the left side of my photo).

After I stitched down a Fuji Instax photo of my friend I added bits and bobs of ephemera all around the photo, tucking some bits behind, stapling some bits on and stitching down others. The end result was a mixed media look that I love.

I love the little vintage-looking gingham "tape strips" that are in the June Cypress PL kit. I stitched one down below my title.

Mixed Media with Chantal

It's such a nice change when I get to work with different types of mediums. Even though I have the tools to do so, I don't often do mixed media projects but there are so many fun things and techniques that you can do and come up with!

A few days ago, I decided to reorganize all my old pictures. Most of them were given to me over the years by my Grandmother before she passed away, or became mine as part of my mother's estate. I wanted my project to be inspired by my chosen photo; for it to be a representation of my childhood. I was looking for something fun, colorful and nostalgic.

I've become quite the avid vintage item collector lately and I've recently been on the lookout for vintage 1970's - 1980's Disney's Wonderful World of Reading books as they were a huge part of my childhood. I've been lucky enough to thrift some and I went ahead and incorporated a page from one of them (which was in terrible shape), in my layout.

After taking apart the vintage book, I used a page and adhered it to a white background. I then used the Cypress Scrapbook Kit stamp sentiment "these are the days" and haphazardly stamped it on my page in a few different spots. 

I then decided to stamp out a few stars onto my layout using some paint. In order to do this, I dug out an Asian pear from my refrigerator (a potato is a very good option as well) and carefully cut out the shape of a star, using a knife. I then dipped my pear into some yellow paint and stamped the shape, a few times, onto my page.

Once dry, I adhered two strips of paper (one with a fussy cut scalloped edge) on top on my story book page and sewed them down. I then added my photo, typed out some text with my vintage typewriter onto a page of printer paper and adhered with my Tim Holtz mini attacher.

With the help of my Silhouette Cameo, I cut out a circle with a star and used both pieces on my project. The circle was glued with foam tape for some added dimension and the star piece was stapled beneath the strip of text.

I then used a pencil and drew onto my white background and added a few embellishments from the Cypress Scrapbook kit (e.g: My Mind's Eye Wander enamel dots, Elle Studio Noteworthy epoxy stickers & bits and pieces).

TUESDAY TUTORIAL WITH JESSY

Hello there again! Jessy here to share with you the creative process on how I created on my journaling bible page. It's always refreshing to receive the GraceBox each month! 

To begin, I applied blue then followed by purple acrylic paint onto my page by using a recycled gift card. It's really easy to create these thick strokes. Just squeeze some paint onto the top of the card and slowly give an upstroke/downstroke on the page. I wanted to create a more subtle look and I decided to mask the colors with white gesso. 

Once everything is air-dried, I adhered the clear sticker at the top of the page. I chose butterflies because it represents transformation. I thought those are perfect! 

Next, I stamped tiny dots all around the page and also added those cute leatherette heart, exclusive stickers by CTK.  

To complete the page, I added more stickers and more stamps. I really love the arty background and I truly enjoyed creating this page in a such a short time!

Pocket Life with Jennie Garcia

Happy Coffee! I mean Monday! This is Jennie with today's pocket pages using the June Pocket Life Kit. In this spread, I mixed it up by adding the June Embellishment Kit. 

Since on this side I have 3x3 pockets I had to trim down a few of the cards and use the papers from the June Pocket Life Kit. 

These weeks were a little slow so I only use one page for each week. I'm not too hard with my PL process so I allow myself to do this often. It's good to have guidelines, but when rules are too strict it can stifle your creative process.

The tags that I used for the title are from the Pinkfresh Studio Sticker Sheet from the Embellishment Kit. On the right, I used a die cut from the Pocket Life Kit and the heart is also from  Embellishment Kit.

Those Case of the Blahs Stickers are perfect for situations like these. I cut the original photo in a circle and used a paper for the background. It somehow turned it into a happy photo.

 In this card, I wanted to sticker sneeze all my "Z"s. I have so many! I still have mixed feelings about it. I love it but at the same time is incredibly quirky!

I can't believe I managed to keep this card so simple! The tag is from the die cuts pack and the label from the Pnkfresh Studio Stickers. The alphas are from an old Citrus Twist Kit. I wanted to keep everything at the center so I stamped on the sides. 

This is one of my "simple' layouts. Ignoring the fact that I stuck more than 20 alpha stickers in a card.

Sunday Sketch with Kira

Hello again friends!  It's Kira and I am back with a 12x12 scrapbook layout for the Sunday Sketch.

I stuck fairly close to the sketch this week.  And I used mostly pieces from the PL kit, along with a few items from the main kit.

I started by trimming my photos down to 2.5"x2.5".  My youngest son is obsessed with splash pads, and lucky for him, we visit one every week at the farmers market we go to on Sundays.  I have so many photos of him just giddy with excitement as he plays in the water. I printed the photos in black and white since there were a lot of colors going on in the original photos and his shirt was red...which isn't conducive to the type of colors I like to use in my scrapbooking.  Lol.

Since I printed in black and white, I was able to pull in whatever colors I liked to my layout.  And the first paper that called to me was this blue and yellow floral in the PL kit.  Isn't it gorgeous?!  I cut a 1" strip to layer behind my photos.

I played off the blue in the floral print by bringing in this cornflower blue striped paper to layer behind each of the photos.

I was flipping through the PL cards when this speech bubble card jumped out at me.  I thought it would look so cute to use speech bubbles instead of squares, like the sketch suggests, so I fussy cut each of those out. 

I drew some squares on the right side of my layout with a pencil and then picked a matching blue thread to stitch over the top of the squares.  I chose a simple title, Fun, for my layout using the Wild Heart glitter Thickers.

I finished off the layout with some flower and heart ephemera from the PL die cut pack.  And it was complete after I added some typed journaling.

3 - To - Inspire with Nathalie

Hi there!

Nathalie with you today to bring you this week's 3-to-Inspire post.  By now most of you (hopefully) have received your gorgeous Cypress kits, and have started to dig into all the goodies included in the kits.   So how about a few prompts to make your next project a bit easier!.  This week's prompts are:

• Create a banner 
• Use some fussy cut elements
• Document a picture of yourself

Here is what i have created using these prompts:

This month's cut apart digital sheet, as well as the ephemera pack (from Elle's Studio in the main kit, and Pinkfresh Studio in the add on kit) had many tags and labels in them, so i took advantage of them all to create a banner on the 8.5x11 white cardstock.  

A piece of grey jute cord (Maya Road) was wrapped around the cardstock, and all the tags, and flags were strung and glued on one side of the banner, so that the picture could be place also in the banner.  

Once the picture was set,  a few floral motifs were fussy cut from the 'Promise' paper from Shimelle included in the Cypress kits, and then used to create a large cluster around the picture.  The foam glitter thickers from Crate Paper  help to complete the cluster, and marry the page to the design on the patterned paper that is used as background for this page.

I used the same fussy cut florals and foam glitter stickers to create the title of this page.  Some of the pieces were placed outside of the white cardstock so that they tie into the background.  To finish the page a few sentiments were added using the main kit stamp set,  followed by some journaling lines and gold ink droplets.

I really enjoyed working with a smaller format, and then adapting it to fit my regular scrapbook albums, but having the threee prompts made it so much easier to create this page about a beautiful Summer day here in  Toronto.
