Happy - August Kit - Emma Wood

Hello friends!  Emma on the blog today to share a fun page I created using the stunning August Main & Embellishment kits.  I absolutely adore the CTK exclusive pattern paper included in the Main kit this month and I may also be a little addicted to the Maggie Holmes ephemera so I started this page with those things in mind and I love how it finished up!

 

I cut two strips from the paper (you know I just had to go with the pinks..) and distressed the edges for something different.  I think out of all the tools I have the distress tool would have to be the oldest and the least used, haha.  To start my page I picked a mist that matched the papers (Heidi Swapp Color shine in coral that I picked up from the CTK store a while back) and did a few splatters on each side of where I planned the paper strips to sit.  I love the vintage ribbon included in the kit so I tucked that underneath the left edge and then stitched them all in place using my sewing machine.

I messed around with all the die-cuts for ages before I settled on this one and I really only picked it because the photo's I'd printed fit on top perfectly, with just the wheel and top of the die-cut cart peeking above/below!

 
I also tucked a copule of the die-cut flowers at the top of my photo and then put the "HAPPY' die-cut ontop of it all (using some foam-dots underneath to give it a little dimension).

There isn't a whole lot of story to go with this page, so for my journaling I used a combination of the word stickers and stamps.  I think it's a fun way to add some story to your page and love doing this on my pages (obviously not suited for all pages, limited by the stickers/stamps you have on hand and how long you want your journaling to be!).

To finish off my page I used a few of the puffy heart stickers and called it done! 

I really love how it finished up.  Soft and pretty with lots of layers; my kind of page ;)

Hey Adventure

For the last few four years I have routinely used pocket pages as a supplement to my traditional scrapbooking. With three kids and numerous photo opportunities, I have too many photos to scrap them all in a traditional way. I could try, but I would probably still be deep in 2014! 

My solution for "keeping up" with my cameral roll is to use pocket pages, like this one that I did using a mix of the August Kits:

If you were to flip through any of my recent albums you would see that I alternate between traditional and pocket pages. This lets me do what I love (traditional scrapping) while staying up on my albums.  This particular page documents a morning my girls and I spent hiking with our Girl Scout Troop, but not every pocket page is devoted to one event or story. Often my pages take on the look of a classic Project Life album with the everyday details filling my pockets. 

One of the things I really love about memory keeping, is that we are able to tailor it to our needs and wants. I used to keep two different sets of albums--one for traditional pages and one for Project Life--and I was miserable trying to keep up with the both of them. By combining both approaches I came up with a system that worked for me.

Tuesday Tutorial with Veera

It’s Veera here today to share my tips and tricks for creating your own traveler’s notebook insert. I love the format of traveler’s notebooks and creating your own inserts is really easy. All you need is blank papers, pattern paper for the cover and some embellishments.

For the inside pages I use white copy paper that is a bit thicker than normal copy paper. The reason for this is that I don’t want writing or stamping to see through on the other side. The paper I use is 120 g/m2. I folded the papers in half and cut the pattern paper I want to use as cover. At this point I’m not cutting everything to a correct size, rather having all the paper to be a bit larger than the final size. I try to be modest with the number of inside pages as I know that I will be adding on to this book (photos, embellishments etc) so I want to make sure that the insert itself isn’t too bulky already.

The next step is to bind the book. I used staples but you can even sew your pages together, whatever works for you.

The next step is to cut everything to the right size. The reason for cutting everything at this stage is to get a clean edge. If you would cut the pages first and the folded and binded, the edge wouldn’t be straight. I used my paper trimmer to cut the edge at this point.

The last and final step is to add embellishments to the cover. This is optional but highly recommended to make the insert even prettier! When I’m adding the embellishments to the cover I try to adhere everything carefully so that everything will be in place once I have finished using this book.

Sunday Sketch

Hey everyone, Bea Valint here with you today sharing a new layout based on the weekly sketch. I was so excited when I found out that I was assigned to use a sketch this week, it always inspires me and makes the process so fun.  

I started this layout choosing this photo because I love it so much. The colors of my daughter’s dress fit perfectly the papers from the kit. When I saw the recent sketch I knew this would be a perfect way to incorporate it. I was working with the Crate Paper –Carousel-Fairgrounds and Crate Paper-Carousel-Summertime papers. Due to the format of the photo, I wanted to create a vertical layout. To do this I rotated the sketch with 90%.

I placed my photo to the left bottom, and started to embellish my page. For adding my title I mixed and matched die cut pieces and chipboard letters. I couldn’t resist to add the cute deer to the right bottom of the page.

I arranged the pretty Maggie Holmes ephemera pieces around my photo to drive the eyes to the focal point. I mainly arranged them with foam tape which gives depth to the layout.

I created a cluster to the right top using mostly die cuts, exclusive stickers. I finished off my design by dropping some white acrylic paint around the page.

This was my project for today! Hello there! Welcome to this week's edition of our 3 to Inspire Challenge! Each Saturday Citrus Twist provides three prompts to get those creative juices flowing. To play along and be eligible for a fun prize, make sure and post your project in the CTK Gallery with today's date in the title. Now lets get to those prompts!

This is my take on today's challenge:

Creating in the journaling bible can be fun. I used the August GraceBox kit for this page. Started off with a misted background. Once that is dried, I adhered the flower die-cut. The followed by the blue tiny phrases stickers. Stamped the sentiment and lastly added more stickers & incorporated more stamping to complete my page. 

Now it's your turn! You can use the 3 to inspire prompts and create in any kind of paper projects (layout, cards, project life spread, altered project, etc). Sure can't wait to see what you all create!

I'm back with a new challenge for your Pocket Life !

 

I do not know for you, but, me, I love to collect all these small détails of daily life.

 

Sometimes, I get messages that make me smile, laugh or cry emotion.

 

As I want to keep them to read them later, I integrate them into my PL.

 

 

 

 

 

I wanted to give you the idea with the screen printing of the message but you also use this method to preserve precisely your children's drawing.

 

 

I take this opportunity to show you the last pages created for my new Handbook 6x8.

 

Yes, I started a new project to document my pregnancy.

Yes, I waiting for a baby for January :)

 

I used for these first pages the beautiful PL Cards from the August Kit !

Happy Birthday

Hello there! Melissa here sharing one last project as an August guest designer here at Citrus Twist Kits! 

Today, I really challenged myself to create more of a traditional style scrapbook page in my travelers notebook. This is something I don't do very often, but after this project, I really need to get on board. I had serious fun with this layout. 

If any of you are familiar with my work, you know black & white are my colors. My OCD takes over and when I try to put color on a layout my mind goes into overload. I wanted to scrap this photo of my daughter that we had taken of her for her 7th birthday. Her favorite color is yellow, and the August's Photobooth PL Kit had some really sweet yellow pieces that I wanted to use. Again, this was a big challenge for me, but the pieces were so cute, they went on and stayed on. 

I really loved the flowers and twigs from the diecut pack. 

Last, the stamps. They are perfection! Another favorite is that "all dressed up & somewhere to go" stamp.

Hey everyone, it's Bea Valint here today, and I am so delighted to be this month's guest designer for Citrus Twist Kits! There are so many gorgeous products in this month kit that it was hard to choose what to use first! I love the colorful patterns, the feminine details, and the shiny ephemera pieces…

Here is the layout I created:

The first thing that caught my eyes was the colorful Pink Paislee- Summer Lights "08" patterned paper. The pretty colors reminded me of colorful butterflies, so I cut some of them with my cameo and dived into my stash to find some similar colored card stock. I cut some butterflies from the different colored card stock too, layered the butterflies with color on color, and machine-stitched them.

I love the pretty black and white die cut flowers from the Maggie Holmes ephemera pack and tried to find the best way to use them on my layout. I decided to copy the flower to a piece of vellum with embossing pen, thorn around the pattern, and layer it behind my photo.

To add more interest to my page I painted some pink stripe in the background, and dropped watercolor around the page. The colorful background added more contrast to the white embossed flower.

I cut some stripes from the Pink Paislee- Summer Lights 06 paper and adhered them to the vellum. I arranged the butterflies diagonally and spiced up the layout with the pretty CTK exclusive heart stickers.

Project Life with Inkie Quill

Hello scrappy peeps!

 I'm finally up to April and documenting little Archie's first week in the world...and to say I'm excited to scrap these pics is an understatement!!

I had a fun time layering the cork pieces, puffy stickers and exclusive ephemera pieces to create little embellishment clusters both on my cards and photos. 

I love quick and easy filler cards like this one: a nice big flat piece to layer, a puffy eye catching piece and a sprinkling of tiny embellishments make my ideal cluster. :)

Tuesday Tutorial | Make your own TN insert with pattern paper!

Hi guys! I'm still obsessed with Traveler's Notebooks and I love creating my own inserts from pattern paper. Think of it like a little mini book!

Here's how I do it:

All you need is 3 pieces of pattern paper, a paper trimmer or a cutting mat and a knife, a needle and thread or a stapler!

I use the template below to trim out my papers. The only important thing to remember is to make sure any patterns are up the right way. For instance, my kite paper needs to be vertical when I cut and fold it.

Once I've cut and folded all my papers, I put them in the order I want them to be (making sure to match up the patterns you want together) and then I clip them all together and poke holes down the centre fold.

Then I stitch them together using a running stitch and tie off the ends. You could also run it through your sewing machine or use a stapler (if you don't have a long arm stapler, I have a tutorial for doing it with a normal stapler here).

And then the fun part, embellishing! The vintage lace in the August kit is going to be perfect for this part!
