In My Studio with Christin

Christin here, hello and welcome to my scrap studio. I have my scrap room in the basement and although it is pretty big, the lighting isn't perfect and even with studio lamps I am not happy with the lights for making videos. When we moved in the room was installed with a dimmer so I can't have big lights in the ceiling. (yet) All my white furniture are from Ikea and a lot of the boxes too...  Glad to have Ikea only 30 minutes away.

Here you can see my corner. I am NOT very good at getting rid of stuff, but I give away things to the day care and the schools after-school program once in a while.

scraproom01
scraproom02 I like to keep as most things that I might use as close as possible, I hate moving around in the room to find things.I keep most things on a shelf next to me. scraproom04

I have labeled most of my boxes with shipping tags

scraproom06

I keep my latest CTK embellishments in a plastic box and the things from kits that would work with PL I put in another box.

Most of my flairs are stored in metal boxes

scraproom part 2 01

I keep sequins and wood veneers in plastic containers like this.

scraproom part 2 04

In my Alex drawers I have some drawers with just mess, others I have sorted with paint, stamp pads or thread.

Stamps that are used all the time go in a box like this. I would go crazy puting them back all the time since I one evening might use 10 of them 4-5 times each....

My stencils goes in this Ikea container

When I go to crops I put papers and embellishments in these and put in a tote.

Some of my washi go in my small Expedit. The rest are put in other boxes.

I share this room with two kids and have set up three stations for them. One if they want to watch a movie on my computer (I have a separate screen on my side, not an extra computer) which is the extra table next to my table. Then there is the table in the middle of the room where they can sit and draw/stamp/something else together. And behind that table is the TV spot where they watch TV or play on the Wii U.  (the lady and the dog on the wall is embroidery I did years ago before I found scrapbooking. In the white boxes to the left I sort out other hobbies and stuff for altering + like pearls and fabric

Showing off my studio was a very big inspiration to clean it up a little, my 5 year old LOVES to cut up pieces of paper or use washi tape on paper pieces and my floor is often covered in all of this. They also bring lots of toys down here.  I am also getting better at cleaning out my desk after I scrap, it works better when I have a designated place to store things.   Since I often work on 4-5 projects at the same time I tend to use up a lot of space...

Here is a close up. I love the handmade vintage tag that Trina made just for the kit.

To play along this week and for a chance to win $5 to spend at CTK store, upload your projects based on this week sketch to the CTK gallery. You have time until Oct 11th and please include "Sketch 10/5" in the description.

Kit Love with Pamela

Hello and welcome to this month's kit love!  Let me show you my process in getting the goodies out of my box and into each pocket of the protectors!

First: Unbox. I usually take out all of the goodies from the bags and put it into my CTK box. I put all my kits into this rubbermaid bento box, the larger items in the middle and the stamps and wood veneers into those little compartments on the side.

Kit Love 1

Second: Gather. I prepare all my photos, grab all my pocket life tools and I start laying down where things go.

Kit Love 2

Everything is pretty empty as this point. No journaling, no embellishments, no cutting. This is just a rough framework for me to start working with. I can also make sure that the colours coordinate and balance with each other :)

Kit Love 3

Third: Start journaling! I used some of the clouds to journal on so that they show up against the pattern paper.

Kit Love 4

Having everything laid down for me allows me to start putting things together quickly. Sometimes I start the journaling and assembly with the photo and journal cards in the middle and things wouldn't go out of order for me since everything is there already.

Kit Love 5

Hope this gives you a rough idea as to how I make pocket life work with me and how I put my pages together!

Pocket Life with Jen

Hello all! I am thrilled to be sharing the first pocket pages of the month using the October Pocket Life and Pocket Life Embellishment kits. They are, quite simply, gorgeous! Last October's kit was probably my favorite. Ever. This one tops it. To sum it up...

"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers." - L.M. Montgomery

JenB_OctPL1
Fancy Pants True Friend paper collection is rich and lovely but, the CTK exclusive cards this month completely captured my heart. I used a whopping six of them on these two pages, and had to seriously rein in my urge to hoard them forever. Absolute perfection. Every one!

JenB_OctPL2
The smatterings of black and white accents in both kits provide such a beautiful contrast to the warm colors of the cards and papers. That ticket wood chip? My head spins with the possibilities but, this one was just the right platform for a few alphabet stickers.

October Guest Designer ~ Christine Newman

My name is Christine Newman and I’m so excited to be the October guest designer at Citrus Twist Kits! I’m really loving the colors in the October scrapbook kit and I can’t wait to show you my projects! A little bit about me. I’m known in the scrapbooking world as “listgirl”. I’ve been scrapbooking since 2008. I love to tell my life stories with photos and pretty papers. I love scrapbooking because looking back on my memories with the people I love make me so happy and thankful! It’s also such a great artistic outlet for me, combining my favorite hobbies of photography, scrapbooking, computers, internet, and writing. I live in Southern California with my husband Todd and our cat Noodle. I work full-time as a financial analyst for a high-tech company. I love to eat, which means I try to workout as often as possible to offset my intake. I also love to read, knit/crochet, make cards, stamp, sew, and get my hands into anything crafty! You can find me sharing my life and crafty projects on my blog and on Instagram.

1. How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start? I have been scrapbooking since 2008. Before that I did create a bunch of scrapbooks to give as gifts for Christmas in 2003, but did not continue after that until 2008. I started to scrapbook regularly in 2008 because I wanted to do something with all the digital photos that I had accumulated. I actually started out scrapbooking digitally and then evolved into paper and hybrid.

2. How would you describe your scrapbooking style? My style is graphic yet colorful, sometimes whimsical. I don't usually fill up the whole page, but I'm not really a whitespace scrapbooker either. I guess I'm sort of in-between. I like using white & kraft backgrounds and let the colorful papers and embellishments pop.

3. What scrapbookers have influenced you most? Jen Chapin, Patricia Roebuck, and Geralyn Sy. I love how they use color and their design aesthetics.

4. What is your favorite thing about kit clubs? This sounds funny but I love that you can be so productive by using only one kit! One of my productivity secrets is limiting my supplies. I don't enjoy spending my crafting time looking for stuff. I'd rather just dig into a kit and start making things! Kits are great for that. Plus, when I go to a crop with friends, I love being able to just pick up a few unused kits in my stash and some tools and go! Really makes packing for crops much easier!

5. What are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items? Well I'm a paper lover so my most favorite scrapbooking item is patterned paper. I can make my own embellishments with paper. Four other items that I almost always use on my layouts are stamps, sequins, enamel dots, and wood veneers. If I could add a sixth item it would be shaped paper clips. With these items I can create lots of different textures on the page.

6. How would you describe the Citrus Twist October kit and what do you enjoy most about it? I would say the Citrus Twist October kit is fallish, but not so much autumn that people in the Southern Hemisphere or somewhere without seasons couldn't use it. There are lots of diecuts and stickers to suit many different styles. I really love the typed words on the stamps. I'm always a fan of typed words on stamps, because they are so versatile!

Here is a look at what she create using the October Main kit.  Love the circles!
