Playing with Pocket Life with Pamela

Good morning everyone!  It's Friday and I'm off to my mini vacation! But before I go, I'd like to share with you my PL spread for week 26 and 27 using July's PL and PL Embellishment kit.

Here is the left side of week 26. I went on a mini vacation to Whistler with my boyfriend and his family during the weekend.

  Pamela - July 2014 - PL - 1

I cut out the sun and cloud from one of the pattern paper included in the PL embellishment kit. I then stitched it onto a piece of pattern paper from the 6x6 paper pad included in the PL main kit for my title card.

  Pamela - July 2014 - PL - 3

I die cut some holes and backed it with the 3 solid colour cardstock and taped my instax photo down with one of the stickers from the main PL kit. Love that sticker so much!

  Pamela - July 2014 - P4L -

Here is the other side of the week.

  Pamela - July 2014 - PL - 2

Those alpha stickers? Love them so much!

  Pamela - July 2014 - PL - 5

I cut up one of the circles from the pattern paper and stitched it onto my PL card. I adhered the enamel dots (from the main PL kit) to match the rectangles on the circle.

  Pamela - July 2014 - PL - 6Here is my week 27 spread! Pamela - July 2014 - PL - 7

I cut out the camera from the 6x6 paper pad and adhered it white cardstock for my title card. I then used my sewing machine and sew the camera and alphabet stickers down.

Pamela - July 2014 - PL - 8

How about a combining the alphas from the main PL kit and the embellishment kit? I just love how well they work together!

A View from Our Gallery

This week we're featuring a layout posted to our gallery all the way from Malaysia. We love Phei Chee's take on a recent sketch challenge on our blog. We've also got a scrapbooking challenge for you based on Phei Chee's sweet page. Here it is:

Create a page (or work the challenge into a PL page) that uses these two elements: circular stitching and an embellishment cluster that has at least 5 embellishments. We'd love to see the results of this challenge posted in our Gallery.

Now, let's meet Phei Chee!

Hi, I‘m Phei Chee from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, working as a Fashion Buyer.

I started scrap-booking in May 2013 and I've been hooked ever since. I love making mini albums, travelogues and also seasoning cards for my loved one, to record those precious little moments in my life. I started my pocket life two months ago and I am really in love with it.

I love playing along with the sketch challenges. All the sketch layouts from the DT are always so inspiring. Here is my layout based on the 6/29 sketch:

Love this 6/29 sketch so much! I decided to play along with it immediately, pulling out my leftover May PL kit, and got it done within 2+ hours.
I was able to fit 4 pictures in my layout and very coincidentally I'd forced him to take this series of selfies last weekend! Ho ho Ho! So I think this is just nice for this layout!

I printed those pics 1.75" x 1.75" by using my lovely canon CP900.Then I found that the color palette of the 6x6 Webster's Pages paper matched my pictures so well! It makes this layout an easier one.

The "original circle" on the paper makes my jobs easier, I just had to add two rows of machine stitching and call-it-done.

Can you spot the gold color title from Maggie Holmes? Love it so much as it looks seriously elegant! Those white color stickers are awesome too. I just feel like putting everywhere! Can you spot some of them on top of my picture? Since I used a white color background I stuck those white stickers on green color card stock and randomly fussy cut it.

Last but not least . . . sprinkles! Since I'm not good at handling that, I changed it to be little stars, and used my lovely star puncher, then stuck them everywhere randomly as I like.

I hope my layout has inspired you.

Thanks for looking, too :).

In the Studio: Scrap Spaces

Michelle here to share with you a little look into my scrappy place.

Prior to sharing any photos though, I have to be completely up front with you: I don't keep a lot of supplies on hand.  I am ruthless when it comes to keeping my scrap stuff and creative area neat and organized.  I purge my items regularly and I have no problem giving away supplies that I know I will not use.  This is a result of two things.  First, I have watched way too many episodes of Hoarders on TLC. Second, I do not have my own craft room.  I scrap in the kitchen on an island and my supplies are stored in various spots throughout the house.  I am patiently waiting for one of my three children to volunteer one of their rooms for me, but until then I happily work with what I have!  Here's a glimpse into how I store my scrap supplies.

Crafty Space 9

All of my storage containers are clear, so that I can easily see what is inside.  I recently sorted my paper by color and I am optimistic that this will work out, we'll see. I like to store my embellishments by type.  For example, I like to keep my bulkier items all together in their packaging in one container. In another container, I mix up all of my diecuts and chipboard pieces together so that I can easily sort through and find what I am looking for.

Scrap Space 3

This is where I keep what I call my "layering stuff."  Tags, diecuts, labels, doilies, ect.  When I am in the first stages of making a layout I put this basket out so that I can readily pull from it whatever I need. These are my scrapbooking staples, basic items that I can easily match with other products and kits.

Scrap Space 6

All of my small embellishments are sorted into divided containers.

Scrap Space 7

Flair and sequins, sorted by color.

Scrap Space 8

I store my Citrus Twist Kits in Iris containers.  This makes it super easy for me to keep my kit together and if I need to clear up my space real quick, I can just pop everything into the box, layouts included, and put it away.

So there you have it, a peek into how I organize my scrappy space.

Sunday Sketch with Michelle

Hello!  Are you ready for a new sketch?  I don't know about you, but I always look forward to the Sunday sketch.  Kasia consistently creates very approachable sketches and today's sketch is no different.

When working with a sketch, I always keep in mind that it is just a sketch and that I can customize it or change it to meet my own needs.  For instance, instead of confining myself to a 12x12 layout like the sketch, I made an 8.5x11 layout.

Love This Day

You can see that I shrunk the proportions of the sketch down a little and left a little less white space than the sketch called for.  I also flipped the sketch so that my daughters would be looking inward as opposed to off the page.

Sketch July 13-2

Since I had chosen to use lots of color in my layout, I decided to cut my title out of a dark navy patterned paper from the July Are We There Yet? Main Kit.  This helped the title to stand out and draw the attention straight to the photos.

Sketch July 13-3

The stitched borders from the Best of Days Embellishment Kit worked perfectly in place of the banner shown in the sketch.

And now that I have shared my take on this week's sketch, we would love to see yours!  Citrus Twist is offering a $5 gift certificate to the CTK store to one lucky participant in this week's sketch challenge.  To get your name into the drawing, please upload your layout into the CTK gallery and include "Sketch 7/13" in the title. Also, feel free to share your project in other scrapbook galleries and on Instagram (use #citrustwistkits).  It is always so much fun to see what you all are doing with the beautiful kits!

Playing with Pocket Life ~ Guest Designer Rachel

Hello, hello! This is Rachel here, your July Guest Designer. In this blog post, I’ll be sharing with you my second PL spread using July Pocket Life kit – Sunkissed and PL Embellishment kit – Hello Sun. This week’s spread is loaded with tons of big photos – one of the many weeks where we got to have family outing, being out and about and catching up with friends. Well hey, it was the mid year school holiday after all! Here’s the full spread of my week 24 – lots of greens and colors from the photos. Hence I used mostly white cardstock for the pockets and embellished individual cards with the alphabets stickers, overlay stickers and the oh-so adorable puffy stickers.

On the left hand side of the PL spread, I decided to use a big photo as my title card which is something Ihave never tried before and I love the effect. The pastel color journal tags are so versatile and go well with the rest of the supplies. And oh yes, I heart this month’s stamp set that is included in the PL kit! I had the words ‘You are funny’ stamped on the right bottom corner photo of my boys being silly with the fruits while we were at a supermarket.

Here is a close up of the left side:

Here is a close up of the right side:

Below are 3 simple sketches to share with you this week for your Pocket Life pages. Here you go!

Thanks for visiting me on the blog today. I hope you enjoy the layouts!

A View From Our Gallery

We would love to celebrate our very first "A View From Our Gallery" and challenge with you. This week's "Here You Go Again!" layout comes from Barb Prendergast (United States). Barb loves to take on our weekly Sunday Sketch challenges and we love seeing what she does with them.

Here is a challenge to go with this week's layout inspired by Barb's sunburst.

CHALLENGE: Create a layout with a starburst or use a starburst on your Pocket Life pages this week. Be sure to share the results in the Citrus Twist Gallery!

Here is a little more about Barb:

My name is Barb Prendergast, and I live in central Illinois. I'm a former newspaper reporter and public relations specialist, so scrapbooking is a perfect way to combine my love of photos and storytelling. My husband, Mike and I have four adult children (three married and one engaged) and seven grandchildren. I treasure my scrapbooks because they're full of layouts that preserve special moments with my family, as well as travels and snapshots of everyday life. I also enjoy creating my own greeting cards.
I love sketches because they provide a shortcut to my creative process. I can use the sketch as a sort of "road map" and get right down to the part of scrapping that I love best: working with my photos, beautiful papers and embellishments to preserve special moments. And I love kits because I don't have to waste time looking for the perfect embellishments or finding papers that "go together"; they're all right in my kit and I can get down to business.

This layout is one of my current favorites because Kasia's sketch inspired me to try something new. Instead of cutting out a sunburst design and adhering it to my background, I cut the sunburst design into my background paper and then put the patterned paper behind it. Kasia's sketches always take me a little bit out of my "comfort zone", which I love.  I used the June main kit, adding some pearl dots, thread and title alphas from my stash. I stamped a piece of kraft cardstock to make the tag.

Thank you for visiting our blog today. We look forward to seeing your starburst-inspired layouts in our Gallery!
