Be Inspired with Tanya

Hi there! It's Tanya and I want to share my project using new June "Seriously Happy" Add-On kit! Have you seen it? Isn't it gorgeous?! So recently I came across one beautiful picture on Pinterest and decided to use its composition on my layout. I reflected it vertically.

I used Allison Kreft Capture Life (Echo Park) paper sheet as a background. Bokeh effect is very popular these days :) And those cute little frames are cut from Inked Rose Frames (WRMK) patterned paper including the frame around the photo.

I glued the arrows from the Favorite Things Ephemera kit (Heidi Swapp) the white side up to add the dimension on my layout and in the same time not to increase the weight of my composition with lots of bright spots.

It's June Reveal Day at Citrus Twist Kits!

Welcome to the June kit reveal. It's time to roll out our new kits. They promise lots of play time and variety.

Thank you to all who applied for our recent Design Team call for 2014-2015. We were flooded with applications and the work we saw was beautiful. We'll do a blog post later this week to welcome our new Design Girls. Next month we'll be adding a number of new DTs to the team so you'll find even more art and projects to be inspired by.

You can view the kits here at June 2014 kits. As a mid-month kit club these kits begin shipping in just 10 days!

If you haven't visited a reveal blog for a couple months, you'll see that our kit photography has changed and we hope you love what you see.

Let's start off with the Main "Beautiful Life" scrapbooking kit:

The "My Happy Place" Pocket Life kit features a full 6 x 6 paper pad from Studio Calico's new South of Market collection. You'll get 2 sheets of each paper in the collection

Here is a photo of the paper from the South of Market collection featured in the June Pocket Life kit:

This month's "Seriously Happy" Add-On kit is like a kiss of tropical sunshine. You can mix bright colors with bold black for layouts with a punch. There is so much ephemera in this kit you will have leftovers for other crafty projects! Here it is:

We've named June's Embellishment kit "Day Tripper." Chipboard, resin and cork come together to add fun embellishments to our Main or Pocket Life kits:

June's Pocket Life Embellishment kit is "Made for You." The Design Girls have some fun projects to share this month on our blog coupling this kit with our June PL kit. You can see how they used some of the many elements from this kit:

This month's Stamp Add-On is "Bring It On." Our stamps are designed and manufactured here in the U.S. and are made from high-quality polymer for perfect stamping. Also, new in the Citrus Twist Kits store are stamp cleaning pads from Color Box here at our store. These cleaning pads are small and perfect for roller stamps and regular rubber or clear polymer stamps. The stamps are available for purchase as a subscription ($3.25 for kit subscribers; $4.25 for non-kit subscribers) to ship with your monthly subscription or singly for $5.00 (shipping anywhere in the world):

"Going Places" is our monthly Pattern Paper Kit.

Every month we offer a solid paper kit for those of you who love extra coordinating cardstock:

Citrus Twist Design Girl and social media queen, Melissa Stinson, has put together a great reveal video so you can see what is in each of our kits. She will walk you through each kit, item by item:

Thank you for stopping by for kit reveal day at Citrus Twist Kits. Have a happy month of scrapbooking!

Guessing Game #4 - 6x6 Paper Play with April

Hi everyone!  April here to share a simple layout I made using the 6x6 paper pad in June's PL kit.

This was a super simple layout I made to document a friend's bday celebration that I recently attended.  I created this layout using 3 sheets from my paper pad cut down so they were evenly divided along my 8.5x11 page, then layered my photo along with some embellies from the June PL Embellies kit.

And a close-up:

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a good one!

Tuesday Tutorial with Nathalie

Hello CTK fans! Only two more sleeps until the full reveal but here is a brand new layout I created with the June main and embellishment kits, followed by step by step instructions if you decide to make your own:

and some details:

The process in photos (with a few tips thrown in there ;) - You can enlarge the photos by clicking on them:
This page did not start with a photo but with my strong desire to use these chipboard pieces from the embellishment kit. In order to move them around and find where to place them on my page, I put them on wax paper first (then it is easy to pull them off)

I cut the two papers that I thought would work best with the title. It happens to be both sides of the same paper. When that happens I simply adhere them on another piece of cheap paper.

Before getting messy with watercolors, I chose the papers that would look good as layers under my photo.

Then I got my son's old watercolors and picked two colors (a brick and a neon pink) that I applied loosely to the edge of my paper. I used lots of water because I wanted the drips to happen. Placing the paper on the vertical and blowing down helped. For some of us, this is a tough step but know that there's really no right or wrong way of doing this. You just have to have fun and accept whatever happens!

To hide the actual edge, I cut, sewed and distressed an inch wide strip of paper to go on each side of the photo block.

Then it's time to mat the photo with several layers of various sized papers. No need to measure.

I then created an area from my journaling by adding a couple of strips of paper on the bottom left corner as well as a chipboard arrow. The finishing touches include a piece of washi tape towards the top of the mat (from my stash), a few more chipboard pieces here and there that coordinate with the title, sequins and enamel dots.

Here's a look at the final page once again:

KITS USED: Beautiful Life main kit, Day Tripping embellishment kit
NON-KIT ITEMS: watercolors, washi tape

Are you ready to play with your June kits yet! :) I'll be back here on Saturday with more pages!

Guessing Game #2 - Simple Strategies with Jen Chapin

jenchapin ctk june
Hello and happy Monday to you! Jen here and today I'm going to show you my simple strategy for a Pocket Life style scrapbook page. I started with my photo in the middle and built from there, using 3x4 cards from the June PL kit. I also used scraps from the 6x6 pad that comes in the PL kit as well as some embellishments from the main and add-on kits.

Meet Our Guest Designer Mary Ann Jenkins

Hello!! I’m Mary Ann Jenkins from sunny Southern California. I have 3 awesome boys, 1 sweet little princess, and a wonderful husband that are the subjects of many of my scrapbook layouts. I love recording the memories and stories we create in our everyday lives. I’ve been scrapping since 1987, and hardly a day goes by without some sort of playing with paper and glue. When I am not in my scrapbook studio making a mess, I enjoy: flea markets, spending time with my family, shopping for hours at Target, taking my camera everywhere I go and bracelets. A girl can never have too many bracelets! I’m excited to be guesting for Citrus Twist, and can’t wait to show you what I have created with their amazing kits!

1.  How long have you been scrapbooking and why did you start?
I’ve been scrapbooking since 1987 after hearing a commercial on the radio for a seminar about “learning to preserve family memories”. I went to the seminar by Shoebox to Showcase (later known as Creative Memories) and it sounded like fun!  A few patterned papers and decorative scissors later I was hooked and never imagined scrapbooking would become a passion or that I would have a room in my home dedicated to the hobby.

2.  How would you describe your scrapbooking style?
My style has changed over the years, but I think clean and simple best describes it. Sure, I like to add mist or paint splatters here and there, but for the most part my layouts are clean and simple.

3.  What scrapbookers have influenced you most?
Although my layouts looking nothing like theirs, a girl can still dream. My top 5 right now would be: Maggie Holmes, Mel Blackburn, Katie Ehmann, Natalie Elphinstone and Paige Evans.

4.  What is your favorite thing about kit clubs?
I love that I can open a kit and start scrapping right away! There’s no wasting time looking for papers and embellishments that mix and match, it’s already been carefully done for you.  All I have                      to do is grab my photos and get to work.

5.  If you departed on a week-long trip to Italy, what are your 5 favorite scrapbooking items you would bring with you (besides your camera and photos!)
I would probably be taking lots of photos in Italy, so I would need to have a stack of cardstock and a pair of scissors to get started, then to go along with all the maps and brochures I would be collecting each day I would want a little box full of sequins, wood veneer and flair. Oh, and the adhesive, I would borrow that  from the hotel concierge ;)

6.  How would you describe the Citrus Twist June's kit and what do you enjoy most about the kit?
Describing the kit can almost be done in one word: Amazing! From the custom wood chips and rubber stamps, to the sweet little bags of sequins and flair, I love it all!  It almost sounds like a cliché but I really do enjoy that everything is already mixed and matched and ready to go.

*********Reminder someone who leaves a comment for Mary Ann will be enter to win ONE of her favorite items!*******

Have a wonderful day!!

Sunday Sketch Challenge with Trina

Welcome to the Sunday Sketch Challenge. We hope you'll play along with our sketch challenge this week and earn a chance to win a $5 gift certificate to Citrus Twist Kits.

This month I thought I'd mix it up and use Kasia's beautiful 12 x 12 sketch for an 8-1/2 x 11 page. These days I'm loving this size format more and more. This smaller, trimmer size is faster to complete (I did this in under 30 minutes), playful and fun.

I get to play with the "Seriously Happy" kit add-on this month and feel lucky to dig into its bright, happy colors. (If you aren't a subscriber yet but you are ready to join the Citrus Twist Kits family, email us at CitrusTwistKits@yahoo.com and we'll get your access set so you can subscribe prior to reveal day on June 5th!)

Here's Kasia's sketch to get things rolling:

Here is my 8-1/2 x 11 take on the weekly sketch:

When I saw the circles in Kasia's sketch I just couldn't resist getting my cheese hole punch out and creating a cheese hole strip for the bottom of the page:

I used the "Seriously Happy" kit add-on plus some of the new Kaisercraft washi tape (black and white with sentimental expressions) that we've just added to the Citrus Twist store. I also used a couple of circle punches, my Silhouette Cameo, my Brother sewing machine (inexpensive and it gets the stitching job done!) and Heidi Swapp's Teal Color Shine. I didn't follow Kasia's sketch exactly but used it as a jumping off point:

If you follow my work you know I love to layer and bend up the edges of the layers . . . and sometimes my photos, too. The Heidi Swapp Favorite Things Ephemera from this kit are so versatile and I think it's going to take me a long time to use them all up. Yum . . . so many possibilities!

Here are more of my layers and some stitching. I was pretty random with my stitching and did not plan it out. I just sewed where it felt right:

Here's one last shot of some layering and stitching. I hope you've enjoyed my take on this week's Sunday Sketch Challenge:

Since I'm here and have a sneak to show you, I'm going to share another peek at a second layout I made with the "Seriously Happy" kit add-on. Yes, I loved that little blue flower so much I used it on my second layout, too. Here you go:

And remember, to play along with our sketch challenge, upload your layouts to our gallery by June 8th to get your name in a drawing to win a $5 gift certificate to the CTK store. When uploading to the gallery you can name it as you would normally but please include "Sketch 6/1".

Thank you for visiting our blog today.

Cheers! Trina
