Be Inspired: blackboard trend!

Hello and happy Thursday! Don't you think that some trends seem not to finish? They change and continue from season to season and every time look good. I have this feeling about the blackboard trend. We used to see it on Pinterest a lot and I feel like new inspirations and images representing it continue to showing up. Today I want to focus on it mixed with a pop of color- which is a great way to incorporate blackboard trend to summer creations!

The blackboard mixed with some colors was my main inspiration for this layout made with a mix of May CitrusTwist Kits. I used here bits and pieces from "Sparkle and Shine" "Happy Horizons" and "Happy Girl" kits and instead of using a black paint I cheated a bit and created background of my composition with a blackboard paper.

How do you like a blackboard look? Do you like mixing it with colors and use on your layouts or you would rather choose softer color combinations?

Tuesday Tutorial with Nina

Hey everyone it´s Nina again here on this fantastic Tuesday. Today I’m going to share a layout tutorial using the Citrus Twist Kit May Main "Sparkle and Shine" and Embellishment Kit "Happy Girl". Lets get started:

To begin the page you need a picture in the size of the golden chipboard frame. You can use some 3D pads to add photos layers with a little bit more of dimension.
In the next step cut a strip and card out of the Webster´s pages paper for the use in your background.
To make the layer more fluffy use a piece of silk paper (this one is from my stash), fold a bit bigger than the frame, and fix it with a tiny attacher.
It´s a great detail to use a paper straw also on a layout. You can cut it lenghtwise with a sharp knife, add some liquid glue and press it down careful onto the cardstock...
Add some pink ink splashes onto the background.
To get a great feeling for the measuring of the page cut out the rub-on words with the back foil. So you can easily find the final place for it. Do the same procedure with the embellishments you want to use. If everything looks great you can flip up the edges to add some glue behind.
And this is the final result....

Thanks for visiting today the CTK blog.

Simple Strategies - Creative Titlework

Hello and welcome on Monday with a "Simple Strategies" post. Mostly journaling is a huge part on our layouts and it´s great to capture all things happened, but I also love doing simple pages. On the day I received the kit I had a MONSTER ear worm with the song "It´s a beautiful life" from Michael Buble. So it´s a kind of "scrapping the music" with a special title work.....
This American Crafts chipboard kork thickers are simply adorable but I like to mix up different fonts.  It makes simple pages a little bit more interesting, I think. The word "beautiful" is made with the Silhouette Cameo and white cardstock. To complete the title work I add a piece of the paper straw and those golden heart rub-ons.

Thank you so much for visiting today. See you tomorrow for a layout tutorial...

SUNDAY SKETCH WITH Tanya

Hi!! It's Tanya and today it's my turn to share with you our new sketch! I made two layouts using May 2014 Sparkle and Shine Main Kit May 2014 Happy Girl Embellishment Kit.

I love May main kit! It's so vivid and bright. So I decided to make another layout with the photos of my little nephew. I combined four pictures in one and framed them with Hello World photo corners (Websters Pages).

I used a lot of shapes cut out on my Silhouette machine: big camera, speech bubbles and love circle.

Here are the Daydreamer wood buttons (Dear Lizzy) which you will find in the May Happy Girl Embellishment Kit. I peeled of the stickers from them and use as usual buttons.

And here is my second take on the sketch. I flipped it horizontally. I didn't used fours photographs, instead I cut my big photograph in four smaller rectangles and highlighted the part with me with the gold photo frame.

DIY Shop Scene cork Thickers (American Crafts) looks amazing on all projects!
And those little Gold enamel Dots (Studio Calico), aren't they splendid?

The gold photo clip is from the main kit and red star clip I cut out on my Silhouette.

Be Inspired With Sandy

Today's Be Inspired post is about how I take the trends of geometry and cut-out shapes to the next level. I don't own a die-cutting or an electronic-cutting machine. That means I either use pre-cut shapes like this Jillibean circles placemat from the May PL embellishment kit or I hand cut my own. I love browsing through architectural photography magazines and websites for unusual geometric silhouettes which can be translated into cool designs for my scrapbook pages.

When I use a complex cut-out I like to keep everything else simple. Here I place a large photo from an Italian furniture design showroom under my cut-out. My journaling consists of word phrases from the Simple Stories Photo Sticker Sheets that you'll find in the May PL Kit. To create a focal point around the journaling, I juxtapose two different patterns underneath the cut-outs in that area : a wood grain and a B&W check. In keeping with the minimal vibe, I embellish sparsely with two gold enamel dots (from the May Main Kit) and an acrylic star (from the May Add-On Kit).

Tuesday Tutorial with our Guest Desinger

Hello everyone, thanks for having me here today!
I have a step by step tutorial for you of how this layout came together. I always like to see how other designers go about creating a layout so I thought I'd share my usual process with you.

Step 1: Before I start any layout I always go through my stash (in this case my kit) and pick our any supplies and embellishments I think I might like to use, and I gather it all into a tray. Even though I may not necessarily use it all in the end, I like to have it there for me in case something doesn't pan out and I need to try something else.

Step 2: Next I like to start moving my patterned paper around my cardstock deciding how I want to layer them all up. At this stage I also usually start to make a mental note of where my stitching will eventually go.

Step3: If I haven't already chosen a picture or pictures for my layout now is where I would do so. For this layout I was stuck between two pictures and had a hard time deciding, but in the end I opted to go with the color one since my top matched the patterned paper. In this step I had also decided to add some of the gold ribbon from the kit along the bottom, I really like that stuff!

Step4:  Next I started trying out different layers for underneath my picture. I knew I wanted to use the gold frame for sure but it still needed more. I ended up layering a piece of patterned paper and white cardstock underneath it then went back and added the large gold doily as the bottom layer.

Step 5: I really liked the gold ribbon along the bottom of my page but felt it also needed some along the top to pull it together. There I also decided to add a strip of the same patterned paper I used along the bottom and layered under my photo and really liked the contrast it provided.

Step 6: Now that I had everything where I wanted it to be I decided my title would go on the left in the empty space underneath the piece of gold ribbon. Before I added my title on though I decided to go ahead and do all the outer stitching along the top and bottom of the page. When I use doilies on layouts I usually like to sew them down so the weight of the top layers don't pull it off the page, I just went ahead and sewed a small line down it's center.

Step 7: After I got all my layers stitched in place I start to dress my page up a bit. Here I used two of the pink photo corners from the kit on my picture layers, I tried 4 but it looked too boxed in to me.

Step 8: This is when I decided on my title. I cut the word "hello" from my cameo (you can buy it in the silhouette store) and used the thickers from the kit to spell out "Happy Day" right under it. Once I got my title exactly where I wanted it I used washi tape to hold it in place while I ran it through the sewing machine.

Step 9: After my title was sewn in place my page was almost done (yay!). It really would have been fine had I left it this way but it still seemed a little empty to me. I really liked the gold foil hearts from the vellum shapes pack so I stuck them down with some very light adhesive, used two of the word stickers and ran my sewing machine down the center of the biggest one to hold them in place. I added two sequins from my stash and finished it off by adding some of the gold enamel dots from the kit. Done!

Because everything in the kit went so well together it really helped this layout come together quickly. If your life is anything like mine lately, quick is good. I hope you'll give it a try!
