Customized Embellishments

Hey crafty friends, Melanie here with a fall layout today.
Autumn is my favorite season, I love everything about it I am taking a lot of pictures at this time of the year. You can imagine how excited I was about using the 'Falling' cut file from the shop this month. I cut it out of white cardstock with my silhouette with some additional leaves.
I placed the cut file on the beautiful paper from the Scrapbook Kit, which makes such a nice background for my page.

I colored the leaves with the Pink Fresh Studio water colors (available in the shop) so they would go with the  colors of the paper.

I placed my photo in the middle of the page and layered it with some papers from the Scrapbook Kit and some of the cutaparts. I also tucked in a flower embellishment and white leaves for more interest.

I placed the leaves all over the page on a slight diagonal, like they had fallen down, using some foam adhesive for more dimension.

For some contrast and to complete my title (this song always reminds me of my granny), I stamped the word 'leaves' in black ink making it a little crooked, so that it looks like fallen leaves. I used the Griffin Alphabet, which is gorgeous, love me a serif font! And look how perfectly it goes with the cut file!

I really love, how the page turned out and how my leaves look! I hope, I inspired you to make matching embellishments for your project. When you don't have a Silhouette, you can always cut out some leaves by hand or use any other shape for this technique.
Don't forget to share what you created in our Facebook Group and on Instagram using the hashtag #citrustwistkits so we can find your work!

Happy crafting, Melanie

3-To-Inspire with Emma

Hi CTK friends!  It's Emma on the blog today to share this weekend's 3-To-Inspire challenge!   We love to share this challenge every Saturday for those of you that are looking for a little extra push to get scrapbooking, to keep scrapbooking, or those just looking for a challenge (and the chance to win a little goodie  is a fun  little bonus!).

I hope you'll join me this week using the following prompts:

1. Give yourself a "colour challenge" - focus on using a colour you normally wouldn't on your project.
2. Use a cut file (this could be one of the awesome free cut files from our store).
3. Include more than one photo.

And here is the page I came up with!

For my colour challenge I focused on using purple!  I actually love purple as a colour but I really struggle using it on my layouts  Just seems so..odd haha.  The June Main kit has quite a few  pops of purple in it, so it was a great opportunity to challenge myself!

For my layout I teamed one of the papers from the Main (Noteworthy No.2 by Elle's Studio) and the Heart Doodle cut file (designed by our amazing DT member, Nathalie!).  I cheated a little for my multiple photo's by creating a collage on my phone and then just printing that :)

I used the white cardstock as my background but after laying it all together (before I stick everything down) I realised it was a bit too "plain" so I added one of the pattern papers (Noteworthy No.4 by Elle's Studio) on top but trimmed it slightly shorter so the white cardstock became my border around it.

I had to add a bit of machine stitching on my page so I grabbed my purple cotton and added  a few zig-zags at the top and bottom.

Once that was done it was just a matter of getting all the other purple pieces included in the Main kit and popping them around the page.  As I was putting all the purple on the page I thought it really needed some contrast - hence the pops on green on the page! I think they pair up nicely :)

Those expoxy stickers from Elle's Studio are gorgeous, loved using them on this page!

Between you and I, I'm still not in love with using purple on my layouts but I do have to confess I think this one is kinda cute!  Do you struggle with using a particular colour on your projects?  Please tell me I'm not alone! ;)

Now it's your turn! Use the three prompts to create your own project/s and share them with us on our Facebook Forum.  I can't wait to see your take on this one!

Take care, Em xo

3-to-Inspire with Nathalie

Hi there!

Nathalie with you today with  the first challenge of the month.  The new "Cypress" kits are so gorgeous, that i was inspired to create two projects using the same prompts in different formats.  But before i show you what i created, let me share this week's challenge prompts:

  • Use a limited color palette
  • Add stitching (either hand, machine or faux stitching) to your project
  • Use digital elements (cut files, cut apart sheets, etc)
Here is the first of two projects created with these prompts:

This month's Cypress PL kit is packed with CTK exclusives, and totally sublime designs and colors, plus the Scrapbook kit includes a Traveler's Notebook Insert which is the one i am using for this page. My choice was to use all things pink (or that had pink) in this layout.

I chose to layer some of the  printable digital PL cards behind the picture.  I love having the option of sizing the cards to fit into my projects, plus I can easily print them on copy paper which helps to reduce the bulkiness of the pages.

To balance the picture, I created a large cluster of elements from the June 2018 cut apart sheet.  I added a bit of journaling to one of the pieces, and then just layered more cut outs around it.  I used very little tape on this page, as i chose to secure most of the layout using some sewing machine stitching.

Love how easy it was to put this together following this week's prompts.  But now, let me show you the second project created with the same prompts.

The inspiration for this page was the acrylic pieces that are included in the  Cypress Scrapbook kit,  the color of the acrylic was the inspiration for this layout's cooler palette.  The teal/ light blue color in the background (created using this month's Mixed Media add on) provides the perfect  canvas for the  picture and embellishments.

This month's digitals are  amazing, from cut files to the cut apart sheet,  so i took advantage of the Doodle Heart cut file to create this layering die cut, and then pulled all the pieces from the cut apart sheet that followed the color palette, and used them to embellish the page.

Once again, I chose to secure some of the pieces (cut out and map) to the page using a bit of machine stitching.   The texture it adds to the page is lovely, but also i chose to leave a large tail behind each stitching line, so that it adds to the movement of the page - think of it as water waves-.

This page came together so nicely using this month's Cypress main, embelishment and mixed media kits.  The following video will show you a more in-depth look at how this page came together:

Now it is your turn to use this three prompts to create projects of your own.  Remember to tag Citrus Twist Kits (use the handle @citrustwistkits or hashtag #citrustwistkits) when sharing your projects on social media.   You can also share your finish projects in the Citrus Twist Kits Friends page on Facebook.

I cannot wait to see how you use these prompts, and all the projects created with this month's Cypress kits.  Remember I am always a comment away of you have questions on how any of the projects came together.

XO
